Because the DIS isn't such a fun place anymore. I'm sick of all the political stuff flying back and forth. I don't care what side of the spectrum you are on, I wish everyone would quit bickering. No one is going to convert others to their way of thinking on a BB anyway. The community board has always been such a cool place to hang out and I'm sure it will be again when the election's over. In the meantime I'll just endure I guess.

You and me both!

I hate myself for getting sucked into one of the political thrashing threads for the first time tonight - I have now vowed to stay far away! Can't believe how nasty people are to each other.

I want to come here for laughs, support, sharing stories and to escape the realities of the real world for just a little while!:)

Only 5 months to go....

Why in the world do you even open the threads? There are a ton of "my dog broke the Davinci Code" threads that I can't bear to read, so I don't look at them.

I just do not understand this thinking.

Why do I open the threads? You've got to be kidding!!!! I DON'T open threads that state that they are a debate in the subject line for exactly that reason. I'm not interested in watching people bash each other over politics. No, I open a thread about President Reagan's passing to find a political debate. I open threads that do not mention anywhere in the subject line that they are full of political bashing but it's still there. That's what I'm sick of already. It would not surprise me to find that a thread titled "my dog broke the Davinci Code" had turned into a political debate because someone felt that Clinton's late dog Buddy was much more intelligent than Bush's late dog Millie (or vice versa).

Just because people disagree doesn't mean they are "bashing each other" .

I'll be glad when the elections are over for an entirely different reason...

I'm sick and tired of hearing:

I'm George Bush and I approve of this message
I'm John Kerry and I approve of this message

For me, the DIS is an open forum. If I read a thread and it turns into a debate or political argument, well I HAVE the power to just close it and move on. No need for me to get riled up.

Yep, I always get sick of election nonsense! One good thing, here on the boards, I can just ignore it.

Well, you know what I was thinking, though, after the elections we'll still most likely have current events that are considered controversial rearing their ugly heads up in the media!;)

It's everywhere, flip on your TV, open up your daily paper, listen to conversations at the grocery store. Is it ever really possible to isolate yourself from the greater goings on in the world? Maybe they did in the sixties with" Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"? I don't know?

After the election you're going to find comments and bashings in threads about the presidents policies, so it won't end. And I'd rather see people bash each other about policies, politics and politicians anyday, over some of the other subjects I've seen bashings about. :(

It's just the nature of the board, and I guess life. People will not agree on everything and nor should they, and it's an open board where open discussions are encouraged. Some people just like to constantly stir the pot and others have real concerns or ideas or opinions they want to express. The ignore button or the back button are cool features ... but you can get bashed for saying that around here too! :teeth: ;)

Ohhh! I am sick of road signs. There are already signs up for local elections. These things get pulled out and fly all over the place. Not to mention that they get left behind and are sometimes up months after the actual election.

Curse John McCain and Russ Finegold for not including the elimination of Political signs!

Maybe I'm not explaining myself exactly as I mean to. I'm a long time poster on the Community Board. I don't have the highest post count by any means but rarely does a day go by that I don't check in at the DIS. I know the regular posters on this board pretty well even if I've never sent them a pm and never received one from them. And I like you people. So it kills me when I see people I like and respect getting nasty with each other on any post.

And the political ones really seem to bring it out in people. That's why I'll be glad when the election is over. I'm sure all disagreements, even political ones, won't cease. But I do think that people will feel less intense about the whole thing and that the community board will settle down. If not, oh well, I'll learn to live in a new world. I wouldn't have stayed around the community board so long if I was easy to chase off, lol.

Remember the certain "doctor" who used to like to stir things up all the time, even on the most innocuous threads or the most heartfelt threads? :p   Remember how 9/11 wasn't even off limits for the rantings?  :(

It's just a never ending cycle ... new day, different posts, new players, same old stuff. :) That's all I was trying to say. :)

Keli, I understand exactly what you mean. Of course there will always be debates, but I agree that it gets particularly ugly during election years. I just hope that this year's election goes much more smoothly than the last one, because I don't think I can take all that drama again, LOL! For the most part I steer clear of the political threads as well (though some do draw me in), because I agree that nobody is going to change anyone else's mind here on the DIS. I must admit that I'm worried about how ugly it will get here on the CB since there is not a debate board anymore. I wish more people could simply state their beliefs without attacking others or insinuating that anyone with an opposing belief is somehow lacking intelligence or understanding. I've also noticed an interesting trend--there are several posters who practically fell of the planet for the last several years, but they have now returned to debate the election.

I miss that certain doctor. I've seen much worse things stirred up by so-called heads up threads than EROS ever thought about stirring up.
