If your child was sick would you cancel the party?

In the early stages on Friday I would probably agree, as the only signs were the fever and just being a little off. Once the Tylenol was given she was fine. But after staying home with her the next day and then finding the lump on the neck Christmas day, I would have cancelled.....much to many disappointments for the other kids and family members, but that would have been the right thing to do. As for the second party on day #4, no way, she was only on the antibiotic for one dose!

My kids have had unexplained fevers - Tylenol takes care of it and it never comes back. :confused3 I kept DS home from school on his birthday for one of those.

As for the lump on the neck - probably a swollen lymph node - not unusual. I still would not have assumed strep. I probably would have made an appearance at the party. But I would definitely miss any other parties with a diagnosis of strep.

Kids have little things all the time that turn out to be nothing.

I'd give her a pass for Friday, because kids get fevers for lots of reasons. But after that, no. My MIL has little or no immunity to anything; one of us would have to stay home with a sick child if it happened on the day of their Christmas gathering.
On my DS's 1st BDay it was a very hot day, and my niece (then 2 1/2) vomited at least 3 times at my house. SIL said it was the heat, although 1/2way through the party a big thunderstorm cooled everything off. Next day DH, DD#1, DS, MIL, 2 of my friends and 2 of the other kids there were also projectile vomiting! I called my niece "Typhoid Morgan" for a while after that. I hope none of your family members get strep!
AFMom, I hope you get better soon. Last year the school of DD#2 called me that she had a fever of 101 and had to go home. She was fine that morning when DH got her to school. My dad picked her up about 1:30. She had strep as well--but she is the only one of my children to have it (knock wood) and has never had it since.

I would have definitely canceled! No reason to get the other children and parents exposed to Strep!
AND... I would be really angry if I found out my dd went to a party with a girl who had strep! That is just selfish!

My child is sick now.

I had a buddy and family coming over fom out of state who I hadn't seen in years.

I called him and apologized and reschulede for a later date.

Family first.

The last time my dad had people for dinner, my step-sister's 10 month old baby was sick - some sort of cold thing that included stuffiness and coughing. A baby obviously doesn't know enough to cover their mouth.

My DH was working, but he's on a chemotherapy-like medication that kills his immune system. I could have gotten him VERY ill for a long time for spreading the baby's simple cold. The child only touched me once, and I went to wash my hands well afterward, but I was still afraid of anything airborne.

TiggerLover, I know what strep throat is. I was just giving the poster a hard time for calling it "strepT," hence the smiley.

I would definately cancel. Not every child is healthy and for some it can seriously affect them. When I was a kid, my kidney disease was really bad and I was on Prelone(and still am) which supressed my immune system. If I got a serious cold, I would have a relapse. I got strep, had a relapse, had to be put on more prelone, and had to go in for another biopsy.

They got it from my original post....I was the one who spelled it wrong at first! UGH. And silly me didn't get the smiley.....thought you really didn't know what it was. :) So hard to express yourself sometimes on the Internet. :)

I guess this whole thing bothers me so much because I am one of those people with low immunities. And guess who started feeling sick last night? First thing this morning I hauled myself out of bed and to the doctor....no strep...yay! But I do have a middle ear infection which is causing my throat to feel sore. ICK! But at least it isn't step and now that I am taking an antibiotic for the ear infection I doubt I will get it.

Happy New Year everyone!
