If you were going to pay $29.95 for a Character pic, wouldn't this make more sense?

If you were going to pay $29.95 for a Character pic at a Character dinner, wouldn't it make more sense if they had a rare hard to find Character posing in the pic:confused3. Myself personally will not pay $29.95 for a pic with Mickey or Donald when I can find them elsewhere.

They say you can use your own camera, but on a business standpoint, it does not sound all that profitible:confused3 On the otherhand if you had your pic with a rare hard to find Character, you would more likely buy the photo, plus the Character options they could use are huge:woohoo:

Who would you pay to get a Character pic with:confused3

Nobody. Under any circumstance. Ever.

Possibly the biggest scam on property. I am not paying even a penny for a mediocre "professional" photograph of a person in a character costume. If I want a keepsake, I will use my own camera.

Seven Dwarfs or Villians. I thought those were the highlight of the halloween party. Such a wonderful opportunities to see characters like that.

Remember that some significant percentage of visitors to WDW go once. For those people, the photo with Mickey or the other headliners is what they came for -- ESP. to those character meals so they can be assured of getting their picture with Mickey.

It's a different category of guest that cares more about "rare" characters. It's not to say that there couldn't be great ways to get more money out of the wallets of THOSE visitors, but most people just want that picture with Mickey.

If it weren't working -- if they weren't making the money they expect to make on those photos -- they'd have changed it up long ago.

Well on our first trip to Disneyland CA in 2002 we stood outside Mickey's House for about 45mins just to get a photo with Mickey. Back then it was inconceivable that within the next few years we would visit every Disney theme park and begin the second round this December. My point here is that the characters are an important part of the visit for many people and some would be willing to pay for the privilege.

I understand what you mean about the photos, having some rare characters would be great! Another thing that would make these photos better (i'm not sure if they do it already) is to have them in special costumes, and maybe provide some sort of memento as well as the photo for the price.

I wouldn't pay either...but I'd assume those who go to Chef Mickey's are going to see Mickey, and they'd be more likely to pay for a photo with the headliner. At any rate you don't have to pay for the photo, you can take a picture with your own camera if you want.

I don't stand in line to meet characters, let alone walk around the park looking for them. I just don't. If I get a picture with a character, it's going to be at a meal. So if I really wanted a picture with Mickey, I wouldn't mind spending $30 to get it.

If you've never paid or wouldn't pay for a picture, how can you deem it "mediocore"? We purchase pictures and the Photopass CD every trip. It's something we enjoy, and I find the quality quite good. I would never pay for a cheeseburger, but just b/c I won't pay for it, I can't qualify it as "mediocore" or a "scam". A scam would be paying for something and not receiving anything or something you didn't expect to receive. With the purchased photos, not only do you know what you are paying for, they let you preview the pictures before you purchase. That within itself disqualifies the adjective "scam".

DH bought the pictures at Donald's breakfast  (which I didn't want to do)....but...we ended up with one 5x7 and four 4x6 pics for our $30. We gave the 4x6 pics to the grandparents for Christmas gifts and have the 5x7 on display at home. A year later, I know that I would never have gotten the picture we have on our camera blown up to a 5x7 or even printed as 4x6's for that matter, so for us, it was worth the $6 per picture to have them printed for us.

I paid for a picture of my DD with Ariel (her favorite) right when Norway started to do princess breakfasts. They were both dressed up like Ariel and it was far too cute to pass up.

We didn't do any of the packages that were offered either. We skipped it altogether because we knew we weren't going to get them so I didn't want the photogs to waste the supplies on us. I couldn't justify Chef Mickey's in front of a statue. it seemed absurd to me.

At Tusker House, it was really quiet when we left for breakfast and we wound up striking up a conversation w/ the woman seating people and the photopass man. He wound up asking us if we had photopass and took all kinds of pics w/ our DD4 and Donald on the photopass. I thought that was VERY sweet of him to do. we had alot of fun with all of them...it was a great breakfast.

The pics we got at CRT and Akershus were wonderful though. I'm going to frame them for Christmas gifts. (but those were included in the price of the meal). :thumbsup2

That's what I was going to say. What about paying $30 for a picture of your family in front of a big plate at Chef Mickey's - no character in sight!!

(FYI, I did purchase this picture because we all looked so good and it was one of the few pictures we have with ME in it!)

I always buy these pictures but I would like the photopass fotografers to maintain a certain level of quality. Some of our pictures are extremely nice whereas others are so bad, you would never guess that were made by an adult, let alone somebody who is paid for taking pictures (the CRT picture being the worst by far).
I agree that rare charactres wpuld be nice, on the other hand, if $29,99 save me 60 minutes of queueing for a popular character, I'm absolutely willing to pay.

By the way: we visited the Universal Studios Singapore this summer and although we made our own pictures, I also bought the "official" picture with us and Alex, the lion, which made my husband quite grumpy. One hour later my grumpy husband lost our camera with all of our holiday pictures on it, we never got it back and the Universal picture is now our only holiday souvenir. In the fututure we will always buy the theme park pictures, just in case, says my husband ;).

We did pay the $30 for the TH breakfast. It is a beautiful picture with my husband, children and my parents. My dad is in poor health and this was his first (and probably his last time) visiting DW. We are greatful that his was able to go with us.

Upoin my return home, I added the TH pictures and my CRT pcitures to my photopass account so I can have more printed up when I get my CD.

How did you do that? I would like to do the same with the Akershus pictures, and all the others I will buy.

Point noted.

The pictures have a code printed on them. You just add the code to your pbotopass account.

We used to buy these in the past, but with the amount of character meals we do in a stay, it got to be too expensive (we usually do about 5 or 6 meals). With that, I really would wish Disney would either bring down the price of the photo they are selling or do what CRT or Akershus does and add it into the price of the meal.

I've bought two pictures over the years and only because those two were so good. They were much less costly though and I don't know if I'd pay what the current rates are. You can generally find the major characters in different places so I'd be more likely to take my own pics.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I can't even begin to thank you for posting that !!! :worship: Seriously, I had NO idea that they had that !! YAY for you !!! It's weird, I was going to order our CD yesterday, because I thought I had everything on there all set. Something told me to wait till the weekend.

I'm SOOO glad I did. I'm going home tonight and pulling those pics. We've got 2 sets from CRT and one from Akershus. what a nice thing to be able to add that !!!! Thank you again !!! :dance3:

I know, I need to lay off the caffeine.....:rotfl:
