If you want to sell a first gen ipad..

I traded mine in yesterday and I am so excited! It worked great, once I found a target that had the one I wanted in stock (white mini 16g). Mine was a graduation gift 3 1/2 years ago so I loved getting to upgrade and keep my gift. And I got a much better trade in value than I usually would. So excited to use my new mini :)

Just got back from trading. Long wait, lots of people wanting trade and they were sold out of almost all IPads!

Thanks for the heads up OP!

How do you "wipe" the iPad?

Go to Settings, General and there's a tab to erase all data. They'll ask you at Target if you've done that and I assume if you haven't they'd show you how.

BTW--I had a Gen 1 thrown in a desk drawer. I charged it up to verify it'd turn on and dropped by Target today and got the $200 gift card. :cool1:

I went into our Target about 3:30 and seemed to have timed it just right. The mobile person had just taken a 10 minute break because she was swamped all day. They said today was by far the most crowded they had been all week. All of the Airs were sold out and they were down to like two mini iPads but that's not what I wanted and they said they won't get the 64gb Airs in the store. I will just watch online and hope they get them in stock and by the time my Rx 5% online coupon expires. Our Target also had about 7 electronic gift cards left and she said she didn't know what she would do when they ran out.

Thanks again OP for the heads up! I've seen it mentioned a few other places but I found it here first. :goodvibes

I appreciate the heads up too! I went in today and got the $200.

I will say they asked me not to wipe it clean until they got the serial number/model number from the settings. She also needed to verify everything was working first. I then did a reset that wiped everything. She confirmed with me that it was wiped clean.

I asked if I could use the trade in card for any purchase. She said that I could, but that was. It the intention of the program. The gift card states "electronic trade-in gift card". They did not have any Air's, so I didn't have anything to buy today.

She gave me a piece of paper with info on it and said I could use it if I lost the gift card to regenerate another card.

Ugh I just went and couldn't do it! They said they stopped doing at 8 for the day. He also said to get there early and line up because they are almost out of gift cards:confused:

I took my DH's 1st gen Ipad into Target tonight about 7pm and traded for a $200 gift card no problem. The clerk said she had taken in 20 today alone. They were out of airs. I went to Best Buy bought a 16G Air, they price matched Targets price of $479. I got Reward points and Shop Kick points.

It is for DH who always gets the oldest electronics. He is so happy to actually get the new one this time!

The person who does it is technically not a Target employee - their mobile section is run by another company so that's why it has different hours than the store (the employees assigned to electronics can't do it). And they give out these gift cards that say Target electronics (or something like that) and some areas have run out of them.

I traded in my first gen. this morning with no problems. I just got a gift card as they were out of everything. I think we will wait until black Friday to see their offers then. They said they are trading iphones too, but you have to reup your 2 year plan to do it.

I got lucky and saw they had an iPad Air 64gb in black available at one of our Targets, shortly after 9am and they had limited availability. I called them and nice guy said he'd be glad to hold it for me but obviously he couldn't do it all day. I told him, I was throwing on clothes and heading up there (so much for cleaning the house) :rotfl2: and was able to use my $200 electronics card of course and I had a Target Rx 5% off so used that, then my Target Red card and saved another 5% so I feel good about it.

My DS will be thrilled to get my iPad 3 since it's retina and so much faster than the first version! :)

Who is the carrier? We have AT&T but want to switch to Verizon.

I went to my local target to trade my 1st gen ipad in and because they were sold out of all of the ipads, I went to the next town over and got an ipad mini! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the head's up, OP...just returned with my $200 gift card!

The store was out of iPads, but we're probably going to put the $$ towards a new TV. The employee who helped me said it's been a crazy busy week because of this promotion, that they've been averaging 25-30 trade-ins each day.
