If you had to choose which way would you have spent the billion dollars?

If you had to spend the a billion on one or the other which would you choose?

With the estimated cost of fast pass plus being one billion dollars and the fantasyland expansion 425 million I ask this question. Do you think Disney should have added two more expansions or on fast pass plus? Just a fun question and I will add a poll. Not trying to stir the pot:stir: just a little disboard research!

I think that Disney has certain amounts of money budgeted for certain things. You can't just take $1 billion from the new Technology budget and move it to the expansion budget because you think it needs to be moved. That's not the way it works.

This whole thing is still playing out anyway, so how anyone can make a decision on information we don't even have, well, beats me.

I like the concept of MM+ and FP+. Considering FP+ in and of itself didn't cost $1 billion, I think your question and most likely your poll will be flawed. But have fun. :)

A major new attraction like Expedition Everest can cost $100 Million, give or take.

A "copy" (different version) of an existing attraction can cost much less.

So, I'd have duplicated Cars Land from DLR/DCA
and built a second version of TSM with a
theme that was different than Toy Story (maybe, WALL-E)
and built a second version of Soarin' (different subject for the film,)
and had a new thrill attraction built at Epcot
(like a "Matterhorn-like roller coaster "Mt. Fuji" at the Japan Pavilion)
and rebuild Mr. Toad at Epcot's UK.

And, had a LOT of money left over for MAINTENANCE of existing attractions.

This is why I love to read post by Robo. So many good ideas. So little time. Thanks for your insight.

I vote Robo way. Makes too much sense, I guess, to appeal to the powers that be but sure exciting to think about!

I know I'm going to get flamed for this.

FP+ didn't cost the amounts noted, and, next years 2015. Companies need to move online and to digital rather than paper at some point.

No matter who you are or when you chose to do this - it's going to happen sooner or later... and when it does, there will be teething issue and people will hate it / disagree with how its been implemented no matter what you do.

All I'm saying is that I understand they needed to move to the digital age and wont hold that against them.

I easily voted for adding value to the parks, versus adding new technology to compensate for the fact that WDW doesn't have enough to entertain the masses.

They are treating the symptoms of the disease without really addressing the cause of the disease. And what ideas they have for helping the cause is akin to putting a Band-Aid on a sucking, gaping flesh abdominal wound.

Exactly!!,what brings people to the parks are new attractions.Adding attractions also spreads out the crowds in other rides in the parks.I can't imagine who would rather have this FP+ system than 2-3 new attractions or lands.

How much did it cost?

Unless you're working for Disney finances you can't be expected have an exact dollar amount (happy to accept proof if you are though, that'd be awesome to know), but analysts expect it between 800M to1B & thats not just for FPP+ but includes MDE, the bands, programming, etc, etc.

Im just not ashamed to say I wont hold it against a company for moving to the digital age :thumbsup2

The rides are not nearly as much fun on line.

Oh my gosh that was amazing, I dont normally literally laugh out loud at work! *laughs*
That was a good call, but not quite my point ;)

  • Bean counters see some attractions with long lines, others with no lines at all.
  • Bean counters objective is to squeeze the last ounce of profitability from aging nostalgic equity.
  • Bean counters convince C-level that it is smarter to use technology to equally distribute guests throughout the attractions and parks instead of building new, popular attractions.
  • Bean counters assume that guests will be okay with being diverted to attractions that they had little interest in before and will fall for the artificially created illusion of demand.
  • Bean counters say Oooops.
