If you found out you were descended from Robin Hood and Maid Marian, how would you react?

If you found out you were descended from Robin Hood and Maid Marian, how would you react? Would you not care, brag about it, or keep it to yourself? I know in real life they are considered legendary people and may not have existed but I thought this would be an interesting thread. I find it interesting that when some find famous people in their lineage, many respond to the information in different ways. In this case I think I would never tell anyone outside the family. In the least, England wouldn’t then try to get all the tax money he stole back. How many pounds in total was it anyway?

My MIL maiden name was Hood ( she was from Newcastle,England ) and I asked if she was a descendent . You never know……

So your MIL would be of both noble and royal bloodlines. Cool. My noble French ancestor supposedly fought in the Third Crusade. Maybe they would have known each other since and were allies during the war. I might have an English ancestor who also fought in the Crusades but I haven’t been able to go back that far yet, so who knows. It’s fun to speculate about though. You should ask your MIL if she has relatives in Loxley, England. That’s where Robert of Loxley (R.H.) is specifically and by legend from. If she uses Ancestry.com, she may be able to have a sense how far back her family’s line goes in that region.

Thank you! I wish I could ask my MIL but sadly she passed away in 2019. She was a huge history buff and would have loved this. My DH is going to check to see if he has any relatives in the Loxley area. His aunt lives just south of Newcastle…….maybe she knows. Perhaps our relatives did fight together- that would be a lovely twist!
