If you could start a dream business, what would it be?

I have always wanted to own an event hall. A place where receptions could be held and even weddings, holiday parties, birthday parties, etc. I would like to have different sized rooms at reasonable prices to rent along with kitchens that can be used by caterers or even events that are "family catered". I would want the building to be built with lots of character and for the grounds to have lots of beautiful landscaping so that one could have an outdoor wedding on property and then have the reception right after inside or out. The inside would be very generic so that any wedding color or themes would go. I would also like to be able to offering everything that the customer could want or need but also allow the customer to have just the hall and they could handle all the other stuff.

Just something that I've thought about every now and then. ;)

I've toyed with that idea too. Some of the same ideas as you, with the landscaping, gazebos, and such. During one of my wishful thinking conversations with DH, I was telling him about how easy it would be :lmao: (I know, I know). I was thinking lots of perennials. Lots of work up front and not so much as time goes by. He had a good laugh at that. :) Admittedly after talking to him, I realized how wishful it was. But I still think it's a good idea, just not "easy".

If I won the lottery it would be a toss up between an event place or putt-putt. I think either would be fun to run!

Please move here if you do, OceanAnnie. The north side of Indy has everything EXCEPT a killer putt putt place.

They are hard to find most anywhere, IMO! Honestly. :( I really like Disney's Winter Summerland. The themeing for there is great. But it might get tiresome at a hometown place. I'd go for lush, serene surroundings on the outside and maybe do some themes inside. Either that or have some type of change out themes!

Oh, I thought of another one. Drive in theater. Man would that be fun to run! I don't know if there is a market for that, but it would be a novelty. That's for sure! Maybe with a 50's theme. That would be so cool.

Cool! If you don't mind my asking, what type of education do they have? DD is interested in this type of work (theme park animal training and performance). Her passions are animals and theater - so I'm thinking she should major in animal science/biology with a theater minor. I've seen bios of other theme park workers where they majored in Zoology as well. Thanks

Sent you a PM, but my cousin went through this exotic animal program. His wife had a BS degree in biology.

I do IT SOX Compliance and have my CISA. Just sitting there, making Excel turn tricks for me all day? My idea of a little corner of heaven.:cloud9:

OK. Now I know you're a masochist. SOX compliance is the bane of my existence. :)

I'm working on an online store selling custom hand painted children's decor, mostly wall letters painted to match bedding. In my wildest imagination, though, I would expand my product offerings to include a full room set of bedding, lampshade, nightlight, wall canvases and letters- all in custom designed fabrics.

either that or I'd stay at home and write bodice ripper historical romance novels. There's nothing so fun as a tawdry Victorian romance.

I have opened a gift shop! I love it. I have garden flags. I make bows, monogramed keychains, car tags, welcome signs and decorate birdhouses. Now I'm working on wreaths and Christmas ornaments. Its so much fun! :)

I'd own a really elegant day spa that had the best of everything to offer people who are willing to pay BIG $$$$ to be pampered. Thing is, I'd constantly be busy getting a massage, a facial, manicure or having something gorgeous done to my hair while sipping champagne and feasting on Belgian chocolates. Oh yeah, I'd stay really busy! ;) And since this is a "dream business", we'd have gorgeous men on staff who would wear very little. :thumbsup2:cutie:

When DH and I got married it was hard to find anything around my little town that met "my requirements". All we really had to choose from for a reasonable price were Club Halls. You know, the "Club" where the royal order of "something" met for their weekly meetings. And the blue curtains with beige slashes all over them did not go with my wedding colors.

Sorry, I can't work for you... unless you make lasagna... ;)

Oh heavens!!! Are you applying for a job as one of the gorgeous men on staff who wears very little? :scared1::faint:

Tell you what...I'll just open a restaurant next door and let you be the chef. :flower3: We can have lasagna AND barbecue on the menu.

If you like to read you should read Nora Robert's newest series about brides it is what you describe right here lol.. Its 3 friends who own a beautiful property and one does the flowers, one the catering, the other is a photographer. I'd love soemthing like that too.

OK besides a wedding business like above, my husband and I would love to won either a comic book/video game store or a toy store. A pizza parlor has also been talked about lol

Thanks for the info on Nora Robert's new series. I will be picking it up.

I think if I could start my dream business I would want to open up a cute, little bookshop with a small bakery inside. :cloud9:

What dream business would YOU start? The sky's the limit!
Me, too! Want a business partner? It makes me think of The Writer's Shop in DHS. We will have to have carrot cake cookies, too! I ama coffee making queen, too, due to a short stint as a barrista at a mall coffee shop!

I would like to make visits to isolated elders and bring home-made muffins or breads and make tea and spend an hour every week visiting with them. I would like to have a great staff of caring people that I have trained and provide this service to several communities in my area. I have thought about this for years and even have a great name for my company, but there is one big problem, and that is money. Maybe some wealthy philanthropist will help me, or maybe I will win the lottery. Anyway, that is what I would love to do. :)

This could be a great business opportunity. You could market to the children/families of these elders who may live a distance away. Talk to people you meet, tell them what you do, habe business cards and brochures handy. Most people know someone who might benefit from this service. You could make your services known to all of the nursing homes/assisted living facilities who would act as word of mouth/secondary marketers to residents and families. Do the same at home hospice agencies, they may also refer you to their clients. Create a brochure and bake a dozen or so muffins and bring it to the staff at these facilities. Tell them what you do, give them brochures, and away you go! Minimal start-up cost, all you really need is some time.

I would love to have a coffee shop with a little stage for live music in the evenings.

I would start a Video Production Company beginning with weddings and expanding from there using some swanky awesome equipment.
