If you could start a dream business, what would it be?

We used to have an old-fashioned drug store here that had a soda fountain counter. We would go there, when I was a child, every Saturday afternoon for a chocolate Coke.

I have always dreamed of buying that same building (it is a tanning place, hair salon now :scared1:) and turning it back into a 50's style soda counter. But expand on it, and have not only the counter with the fun swivel stools, but booths as well. And not only sell flavored Cokes, sodas, malts, etc. but expand the menu to include burgers and fries, other sandwiches, etc. Have all kinds of 50's decor, and of course the ultimate....a jukebox and a corner of the place marked off for dancing. It would be a "Happy Days" sort of place, geared for the teens in town. The waitresses would wear poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Oh, what fun it would be to have a place like that. And if it was a cool enough place, teens from other towns would come. And we could have "adult nights", geared for adults to come and reminisce. Maybe even show movies like "American Graffiti" on the wall, stuff like that. What fun. :)

A dog training facility.
My cousin and his wife just started one last year outside San Diego. They seem to be enjoying it.
Both of them used to work for Sea World, training and performing with the killer whales, so they have a lot of experience working with animals.

Excel VBA Programmer with a steady job, not consulting.
Seriously? Are you a masochist?
I'm a .Net developer who tries as hard as possible to avoid ever touching Excel.

My dream business would be a fly fishing guide service. I'd love to spend my days floating down the river.

I want a job where someone pays me to travel the world and play different golf courses-I would write reviews based on women playing the courses. :thumbsup2

I have always wanted to start a HUGE scrapbooking store around here. We have nothing!!! I would have a awesome selection of supplies with a room in the back to hold crops and classes. If I could do that all day, I would be in my glory!!!

Cool! If you don't mind my asking, what type of education do they have? DD is interested in this type of work (theme park animal training and performance). Her passions are animals and theater - so I'm thinking she should major in animal science/biology with a theater minor. I've seen bios of other theme park workers where they majored in Zoology as well. Thanks

I would be an on air personality for the Travel Channel specializing in reviewing fabulous places around the world that combined luxury with adventure.

I would like to own and operate a book store - preferably used books - where I could make a profit, yet still have my pricing and trade policies decent enough to have a steady customer base.. I LOVE books!! :goodvibes

This is my close second - but used book stores just don't survive here!

My first would be a vintage record store. I LOVE vinyl records - nothing like the sound of that crackle when you put needle to vinyl - but the problem would be that I'd probably want to keep everything that came in!

This is what my brother does! In the KEYS no less. He's one of the top in the biz. (sorry - I'm really proud of him)

I, too, would love to do baking.

I love everyone's dream jobs!! If only, if only! :)

A Victorian Tea House.
I will open it someday. My DH and kids know all about it. They are excited about it and know that it will be great. :lovestruc

I would love to be a wedding consultant for budget weddings. But then I realize I wouldn't make any money doing that so.....:confused3
I would love to be a wedding consultant too! You're right though- no money invovled there but remember- this is a DREAM job. You clearly have all the money in the world..no need to worry about finances! :thumbsup2:laughing:

I would have a pumpkin patch and tree farm!

Well, my dream job would be doing commercial voice overs and cartoon voices. It wouldn't be my business though. I'd still work for someone else.

Right now my dh and I are actually in the initial phases of setting up a dream job -- an online fabric store. I LOVE nice fabrics -- looking at them and running my hands over them. We don't have any stores around here that carry them though, so we are starting our own. Online though because we don't want to have to be tied down to rigid store hours, etc.

In addition to my regular job, which I quite like, I work very part time for a special education consultant. Essentially, affluent families hire her to observe their children, review records, conduct testing, and help guide them through the process of getting the very best services and supports in place for the kids.

I'd like her job, except that rather than serving affluent children I'd like to have some kind of grant that would allow me to do the same work free of charge, advocating for kids in our inner city schools. She seems to make a small fortune, and I've sometimes wondered if I could establish a similar practice and then set aside 1/4 to 1/2 of my hours for working for families pro bono -- I think I could still do quite well for myself on 1/2 to 3/4 of what she's likely making.

DH and I are looking to open our own Micro-Winery.

A nice little place where we make our own wine and have a tasting room. Wine by the glass and some appetizers. Quaint, quiet and cozy is what we are aiming for.

However, banks are not being real generous for small business loans.

Hopefully we can get things started sometime after the New Year.

A bed and breakfast. My father's girlfriend runs one, I'll have to pick her brain on how to get started and what to expect, but I think it sounds like a lot of fun (hard work too I'm sure). I think it would be something I would do once retired, to suppliment my retirement income rather than to try and make a living out of it.

I would like to open a beautiful non-religious wedding chapel. Nothing tacky, and NOTHING like the one and only one we have in my city - it could double as a funeral home! :lmao:

My DH and I have discussed this before. What would be really cool is if we could find a place to do it that has beautiful scenery outdoors for photo sessions, and maybe even space to hold small to medium wedding receptions as well. :cloud9:
