Does anyone else think about this? I guess I am mostly because we spent 2 hours today with our insurance agent going over coverages- and it makes you think about what things are really worth... What is irreplaceable?

If you knew that a disaster was imminent, and you had to evcauate your house, but you could only save 5 things, (not including people or pets or purses- those are obvious), what would they be?

1. My wedding album

2. My book autographed by Gloria Steinem

3. The pearls my DH got me (OK- I'm counting jewelry as one thing- and adding the ring I got for our anniversary)

4. Honeymoon videos from WDW

5. Our box of Christmas ornaments- we collect a lot of them, and have some that we could never replace- "OUr first Christmas" and ones that were given as presents.

So, what would you save?

A small chest that has my little boys (that passed away) keepsakes.
My computer - just the main unit. It has all our pictures, important files, everything.
Box of home videos and as many pictures I could throw into it.
My kids plaster handprints.
Our signed matted picture from our wedding.

My computer (all my writings and pictures on it)

DH's grandma's wedding ring (she has passed on)

The piano (DH's Great Grandma's)

My grandma's desk

The album of my kids as babies

5 things only?

1.) My photo books, I adore looking back and our memories and this would be first on the list.

2.) Our engagement video from Seaworld

3.) Our Disney Pins, so of them have special meanings

4.) Our DVD Collection, many disney out of prints

5.) Computer, lots of photos there as well

Well we lived this last year.

1. Dogs
2. Important papers such as insurance documents etc
3. Jewelrey box
4. Photos
5.Laptops

What book?

My Five:

1. All my pictures, including scrapbooks

2. My grandma's pearls

3. My box of stuff - 1st love letter, etc.

4. Box of crap kids made that I kept

5. Some holiday decorations (not just Christmas, all holidays)

Things I Would NOT Save:

1. Giant deer head hanging in den (but I'm sure DH will!)

2. All the Owner's Manuals for stuff I no longer own (with receipts stapled in)

3. Shelf of old toiletries I'll never use

4. All the old video games the kids no longer play (but won't get rid of)

5. Jars/cans of junk in the basement that DH will never use, but hangs on to.

1.) All my photo albums and scrapbooks. They're priceless.
2.) My box of Christmas ornaments that I've been collecting for over 28 years.
3.) Some old jewelry passed down to us from our Parents
4.) Some pieces of pottery that I'm really fond of
5.) A mirror wall hanging of the NYC skyline (we've had for 20 years) which hangs in my gameroom
(It does include the twin towers)

Things that are purely sentimental?

1) my cat's ashes

2) the cassette tapes I made of the kids singing and talking when they were preschool ages.

3) my peter pan coffee mug (the one I go nuts if anyone else uses "there are 3,000 coffee mugs in this house and you have to use my peter pan one???")

4) my grandmother's apron

5) the picture of the kids with chip and dale when they were 4 and 6. ( I have it framed and hanging in my closet. Weird, I know, but it's like it's so special to me it's just mine.)

Hopefully I am wearing my brown frye boots when I am fleeing this disaster, because I would really hate to leave them behind, too.

My great grandmothers locket

The Disney Cel my DH gave me for Christmas a few years back--I've got a bunch of them, but this one is special for sentimental reasons

My platinum CD's (hopefully they can be grouped into "one item")

My dad's bible from seminary

My charm bracelet--it's the story of my life.

Anne

My 5 things would be:

1. wedding pictures

2. pictures of my girls

3. my grandmas jewelery she passed down to me.

4. china that was my DH's great grandmas

5. a 100 year old bowl that my grandma passed down to me.

1. My wedding album
2. The file that has wedding/birth certificates, Dh's passport/perm resident card (he's from Canada) and SS cards.
3. Disney videos of my Dh's first trip.
4. My grandmother's engagement ring (only thing I have from her).
5. The note my Dh left for me when we were going to be apart for a month. It's written on a piece of computer paper with a blue highliter but I treasure it.

1) A scrapbook my mother gave me when I moved away from them and started my own family. She had been keeping it and working on it from my birth till I was 16 and pregnant with my first. It is so personal and full of beautiful memories which I treasure so dearly. My mother passed away suddenly 4 years ago and this book is my most valued posession.

2) A diamond heartshaped pendant my mother gave me when I gave birth to my third child. She gave it to me as a token of appreciation for all the love my children (her only grandchildren) brought her. This was the last gift I recieved from her. She died in her sleep 3 months later.

3) My wedding ring, which I view as a symbol of all that is most important in my life. My husband and children.

4) Photos from our various holidays, the best moments we share together.

5) My box filled with personal cards and letters I have gotten from friends and relatives throughout the years.

1) a framed picture I have of my old doggy (she died 6 years ago in June) that has a poem with it and her collar. (I also made one for my grandma when her dog died a couple months ago and she loves it.)

2) pictures from my band trip to Florida (those would be my priority, but I would also get other pics of my friends and photo albums of family trips and events and stuff)

3) 2 rings my mom gave me. One is a ruby that was given to my grandma by her mom. The other is a ring my mom had made for me for my 13th birthday out of a ruby and 2 diamonds from a ring my grandma gave her.

4) a watch my grandma got me for Christmas I think 5 or 6 years ago. It has a picture of my cat with my old doggy (the one that died)

5) my big stuffed dog. My uncle got her for me when I was like 2. She stays by my bed and whenever I need her (I know that sounds a little weird, but when my grandma's dog died would be an example), I pull her up on my bed. When I was little, anytime it stormed, I would literally drag her (she was bigger than me at the time) out to the living room and sit on her like she was a real dog. I named her Mini (or Minnie, not sure of the spelling) Dog because she was so big :confused3 . LOL. I also would have to grab my autograph Pluto. He comes with me EVERYWHERE (he's been to WDW one every trip since I got him at age 5 except for the last one, on a cruise, to Las Vegas, Baltimore, and Boston)

6) my band jacket and all my band stuff (can't pick just one thing). This includes my color guard hoodie, my color guard windbreaker, and my flag. I would probably have to grab my hair stuff and make up, too, even though that I really don't care about, just need in order to perform. LOL.

"Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions"- I got to see Gloria Steinem speak at an event a couple of years ago, and Mark (dh) persuaded me to go get an autograph (I didn't want to bother her)- but she was so kind and gracious!

I love reading about what everyone would take!! I'm a total sap, and it's interesting to hear about the things that some people wouldn't see as important (a note on computer paper written in highlighter) but to other people it's one of the 5 most important things in their house!!

besides animals, purses, and people

1- all of the photo albums

2- computer

3- lock box with all important papers

4- The earrings I wore during our wedding (I hope DD wears them one day at hers)

5- if we had time the huge box of Christmas ornaments that we have collected from trips over the past 15 years.

Wedding albums/video

Wedding rings

Disney 1/2 Marathon medals

Family photos

Important paperwork

Hurricane/Emergency kit. It has everything in it that I need.

The few pictures I have with my dad taken when I was a kid

The kids' savings bonds (i know i should have them in a safe deposite box!!)

The kids' baby albums (can't take the wedding album...we never got one!!)

The rosary my mother gave me

pictures of my grandparents

You know- this thread has me thinking too.. I'm going to get a safety deposit box, because I really should have my SS cards in there.. BUT- I am going to start scanning all of our photos  and putting them on discs- that way in case something does happen, God forbid, we would still have a way to get copies of the pictures.
