something you would really like and use but due to cost, not likely to acquire soon

probably a 600mm f4 IS lens for me( about $7000)

1D Mark III or 1Ds MarkIII not sure which would be better, and I don't want to look hard enough to decide.

One of these new vr telephotos - 400/2.8 - 500/4 - 600/4

Logic says the 600 since it is most expensive but I would probably be in situations to use the 400 more so I will go with that.

does a fully stocked studio count as one thing

I really like the Nikkor 200-400mm f/4 VR lens. Goes for about $5000. That would probably first on the list. I'm still unsure if I'd like the full format digital, ie: Nikon D3 at about $5,000, though it can also be used as a crop body with DX lenses, but only at 5.1MP.

I originally thought about putting the D300 as my top choice, but I think I can find a way to purchase that sometime next year. At least so long as my wanting a REALLY REALLY nice (and almost just as expensive) bbq smoker doesn't get in the way.

A lens cap. No wait, maybe something fancier. How about a digital back for a MF camera? But then again, I really like lens caps.

I'd probably get the Canon 400 f/2.8 IS lens.

i have a friend who just went to merritt island( we went last nov) with a d3 and a 600mm lens...he said we should compare some of our photos...hmm me with a rebel xt and 70-200, him with a d3 and nikon(?) 600...whose do you think would be better..hint not mine:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hmm. Am I the only one that can't think of anything? There's nothing that I can think of that I really want and would really use but haven't bought because it costs too much. (Don't get me wring, there are things that fit into each of those categories, but I can't think of anything that fits into all three.)

Closest would probably be one of the just-released (or about-to-be) Pentax DA* telephotos - 200mm F2.8 or 300mm F4. I'm sure I'd use them and I don't think I'd buy either one any time soon (they're both over $1k) but I'm not sure that I have a really need. Maybe just because I haven't let myself think that there is a need.

I do still want an old Zeiss 180mm F2.8 in an M42 mount but haven't been able to justify the ~$250 that they seem to go for. And that 3-lb monster is definitely too big to lug around a Disney park.

Thats a damn nice lens but I'd go for the:

Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM ($6500)

Or if I really wanted a long reach and wasn't too worried about the fstops:

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM, $12k

Nothing says, step aside, serious photog coming through, like a nice bright white lens.

I would buy more vacation time. Enabling DW and I to travel and experience more of this world.

Are you going to get a big green egg?

:offtopic:

nooo.

BGE's are nice, but I'm talking about one of these bad boys!!!

Although a bigger one like this one, but not on a trailer would be nice:

or

For me, the trailer is overkill. I'm just using it in the backyard, thus probably just the smaller one's in the first few links.

I wish I could get BGE's lump charcoal around me. The only place that did sell it went out of business a few years ago. They make one of THE best lump charcoals.

To stay on the off topic. Wicked Good Lump is concidered one of the best by the folks I know on the comp BBQ circuit, and I think is a local product for you, if you haven't tried it you should check it out.

I am looking to buy a trailer one actully myself.

I still want a Dave Klose Backyard Chef someday- then at least I can say "Step aside, a serious BBQ'r is coming through."

Maybe I can get one specially painted Canon white so it will impress EVERYONE. ;)

There is a place not to to far away that has Wicked Good weekend lump. $11 for a 10lb bag though. The BGE lump was $12 for a 20lb bag and is just as good.

Take a look at the Lang 60. Reverse flow off set smoker. SWEEEET. I like the reverse flow off sets. I'm actually thinking of taking a welding class titled "I want to build a ________" and bulid myself a smoker. I'd love to get a hold of a 60 gallon propane tank and use that as the cooking chamber.

Jeff those Klose pits are real nice.
