If you boycotted the Dixie Chicks...

But why does anyon think they are "not taking it"? That's what I don't understand. So they complained about the people complaining. And now you're complaining about them complaining about the fans complaining in the first place.

Let the circle be unbroken indeed.

Stop spinning, you're making me dizzy.:rotfl:

My point was to magicmato that while we don't always agree with how people handle themselves, that's the joy and privilege we endure as Americans. No complaining here.

Not really. I can speak out against it and state I think it is wrong. Just as those who were offended by their words can speak out against them. I do not have to take anything, lol, esp. if it reeks of censorship, something we have fought long and hard against.:lmao:

That's my point exactly though. People have to take what they dish out, just as they will have to take what others dish out. I don't see what's so complicated about it.:confused3

Yet their album was #1 when it came out. Seems that all their fans did not leave them as you state. lol
THE DIXIE CHICKS stated it. And as far as I can tell, it is true. When they said what they said about their fans, most of the fans said, "The hell with them."

If their record is doing all that well and they are rolling in dough and winning awards, then why go all over the TV crying about it? What IS their problem.

Again, I don't really care if all their albums sell well and their concerts sell out or not.

I'm just so tired of uninformed people slamming country music fans for bailing on the Dixie Chicks. For me, it was SO the other way around.

lol It is not. We are both saying the same thing, essentially.

On "60 Minutes" Ms. Maguire told Steve Kroft that their concerts weren't typical country concerts. "When I looked out in the audience, I didn't see rednecks," she said. (Did her lip curl slightly as she pronounced the r-word?) "I saw a more progressive crowd."

And in a Time magazine cover story she said the group would rather have "a smaller following of really cool people who get it," as opposed to "people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith." (It would seem Ms. McEntire got her revenge.) Perhaps there's a difference between this attitude and simple snobbery, but you can't blame country fans if they don't much feel like splitting hairs.

Both from ny times

Yet I am sure the DC's feel the country music crowd abandoned them. And from my perspective, having had to listen to the bs about boycots and the like at the stations, I think they have a valid argument.

Hell, were I in their place, I probably would have said "screw it" and sought out other venues too. Why they were nominated for country music, I don't know... but I am happy they won. :dance3:

I would love to join this campaign. Can I also suggest burning Ms. Coulter in effigy, and or leaving flaming bags of poop on her doorstep?

Or perhaps throwing pies at her during her next speaking engagement?

People already do this. At one speaking engagement they started throwing rocks. You don't hear her pissing and moaning...

I don't watch award shows because I just don't care who wins what and am not unhappy the Dixie Chicks won. Those people are always giving each other awards and I just could not care less about it. :)

But there are 2 fights I'll stick with to the end on the DIS. One is whether the country music fans suck for bailing on the Dixie Chicks (NO, obviously) and the other is whether buying a purse that someone else can't afford means you have no morals (also NO.) For some reason, I find these much more important than who will be President or whether or not someone is a bad mother. :rotfl:

Yep, they could have been nicer, but really, would you have been nice to the very people who you felt abandoned you and attacked you? Yes, not all fans left them, but really, the majority did and the fans who remained and still remain are not the ones they were speaking about, I am sure.

Since you're not a country music fan, then I don't think you understand the fan base. A lot of country music fans are middle America and have deep roots in the military. Then for the Chicks to go and slam the President during a time of war was what a lot of their fans considered disrespectful.

I, for one could care less what they said about the President, like it's been debated they have the right to say whatever.

But for the fans to feel the Bush comment was inappropriate and then for them to say "Like, ummm, duh whatever, we don't need you" It just made the cut a little deeper. They were so flippant about it all. That's what irritated me.

If they had bashed a minority political leader (African-American, gay whatever) the whole country would have been up in arms. But since, it was just the President and those red neck hillbillies, they are now considered Hollywood's "cool kids"

LMAO. And they were promptly hauled off to jail. And have you listened to the woman? All she *does* is piss and moan, though admittedly with a condescending attitude, a smirk and a flick of her hair.

Those comments are from May of 2006.

Something they said nearly a year ago is not "going all over TV crying about it".
I only posted this for the person who thought it was made up.:confused3

Well darn - those people need to improve their aim.

Wow, that is really sad that you wish injury on someone....:sad2:

Loved them before and I still love them.

I listen to them because I like their music, period. If I stopped listening to every group/singer that I didn't agree with then I might be stuck listening to myself singing.

They did. They were on practically every show. News shows (CNN, etc.), talk shows (Oprah, etc.) and even little local pieces. They also talked to every newspaper and magazine that would write about them.

They were everywhere! And every time, every single time, they were whining and crying about the bad country music fans.

They asked for it, they got it, they whined their arses off about it.

...and the link was posted for the person who claimed that this was all fabricated by either me or some radio station.

Just because he currently has the totle of "president" does not mean he is above criticism. :cool2: Also, I guess I do not get the: "If you criticize the president, you disrespect the military." part. I would think it is even MORE important to take the president to task when there are people dying in a war he started. I get that Bush has tried to use the war as a rallying point, but in the area I am from, it is just the opposite.

But that is all off topic and sorry to OP for heading there.

I think this is a good way to sum it up and show that perspective. I really do think if their comments had just been limited to their feelings about the president, most people would have been able to get over that rather quickly. As was said earlier, a lot of Hollywood and people in the music industry have similar views. Yet most of us continue to watch their movies and listen to their music. It was the other comments directed towards the fans that made them feel resentful. If people don't see how that's possible for fans to not want to stand by and continue supporting the DC's, then I just don't think they're trying very hard to understand.:confused3

Wow, of course I was being completely serious because no one has ever made a joke on a message board before.

On the other hand, I wouldn't really call Coulter "someone". She's some sort of demonic creature sent from the bowels of Hades.

It's a good thing she isn't a member of this board or you'd be getting points for personal attacks.:rotfl:

I think Natalie's words in the last acceptance show recognition that they didn't necessarily win because they were the best, but because The Grammys were using their "voice" to express an opinion. In that situation, I think it's the wrong platform to exercise that right.

Have you even listened to the album/songs they were nominated for? They are great music, passionate and timely. They deserved to win what they won. Some of you can take sour grapes to a pretty high level. If performance and art are not a perfect platform for expression-what is? Maybe an election? Well, the last national election pretty much echoes what the Dixie Chicks said publicly. They won FIVE Grammys. Not an accident, methinks, because their music is top shelf. Whine about their politics and how they expressed themselves all you want. Say you never liked them or don't like them anymore; they won FIVE Grammys. Boo Rah Dixie Chicks! You deserve to celebrate it and although some people would have you behave like punished children-you are not. It is those people who are childish and YOU are the victors, the grownups and oh so right.

LOL! ITA. Wish I had seen them on the Grammy's last night, I heard they were great. I'm a diehard fan, have been since Wide Open Spaces. :thumbsup2
