It is great to see new WISH Team members here.

Please do join us on the weekly walker/runner thread. This is where we make it all a "family" and come event weekend have the best of times since we've been chatting as we train.

Come share with us and get to know us better. It's never too late to join in and all are most welcome.

CinderellaPug, I love your siggie pic. Kirby our Pug boy is in my avatar.

I am in for the Goofy this year and can't wait to get started on the training. I just found out I will be deployed to Iraq for a year so training is going to be somewhat interesting. I will be able to go home for a mid-tour leave and will try to time it so I can be back for the marathon weekend. I wanted my training to be different this year and guess the Army is providing me that opportunity!
We are staying at the Boardwalk and my real name is Kevin.

I just signed up for the Half! Yay! Not sure where we will be staying yet.

Thanks!

The more I think about this, the more I think I NEED to do the full. I've gotten up to 12 miles training for the half and it's been fairly easy. 26 miles seems like an eternity, but I can do anything at Disney! Do I need to do something to officially join the WISH board? I will definitely need one of those great green shirts. I will probably be doing this alone since my walking buddy insists she will NOT do the full. It would be nice to know I had some support along the route from you guys. Is there a main thread for posting get-togethers etc, or is it all right here? I am getting very excited about this......feel like the (not-so-little) engine that could....I think I can, I think I can!

Dave: yes, I am a walker. Before our local Y opened (about 6 years ago) I walked 5 miles daily. Once we got our facility, I started to do all sorts of things OTHER than walking. Now that I am "in training" (it sounds so funny to say that), I've been walking again and had no trouble getting into it. I only do distance once a week. I got up to 12 miles last week and will keep it there for now. During the week, I also do several 2-mile sprint walks (as fast as I can go), and then lots of other cross-training activities including 9 holes of golf several times without the riding cart. A previous back surgery and the fact that I am not a lightweight prevent from even attemping to jog/run so if I can't do it walking, I can't do it at all.
I have signed up for the Lehigh Valley Half marathon in Allentown, PA (4/29)and want to see how that goes before I officially sign up for the WDW event. My daughter ran the full this past January and got me so inspired I have to try it for myself.

I was a runner for 30 years but a torn achillies ended the running. Now I'm a walker on a mission.

Glad you joined us don't be a stranger.

disnutt (Kiena), Full, running w/ walk breaks, don't know resort yet

Rosy1020, Kristin, I registered for the full and am hoping to run the whole thing :)...this is my first so maybe I'm being unrealistic, I'm sure I'll have to walk at times but I'm hoping to only walk the water stations. Not sure which resort I'll be staying at yet. Probably the Polynesian but my husband is in the Marine Corps so we were thinking about Shades of Green as well. I use to work at Yacht and Beach Club so I have an affinity for that resort as well. It will be one of the three but I'll probably consult with the fam before making a final decision. I have a feeling I'll cave to the convenience of the monorail but I'll be paying approx $1000 (each) for airfare for my husband and I (if he can make it) from here in Japan so we'll see.

Updated! Please let me know if you have any changes, or if I missed anything. Thanks! :upsidedow

Nicole doing the full running with walk breaks. This is my first marathon, so I am not really sure what to expect. We will be staying at OKW, first time staying DVC, renting points, so I am really excited!

Going Goofy, haven't decided on resort. Depends on if it's just me, DH and 2 kids- then may stay somewhere on monorail. But, if I convince DH to do Donald, then will bring one of the grandmothers, so will stay somewhere less expensive with two rooms! I guess DH needs to decide soon!

Luckily, I am in pretty easy driving distance so I don't have to worry about airfare.

I'm alternating between excitement and terror-- is that normal?! ;)
