If we split up our contract would we have 2 "home" resorts?

We are seriously looking at DVC through Disney and hope to purchase by the end of the month. I just got off the phone with DVC and the incentives now are pretty reasonable at BLT and SSR. If I chose to split up our contract would I have the ability to book out at 11 months to both resorts? It would help some with the cost to split it up and if I would have the benefit of 11 month booking at both resorts that would be nice. Just curious!

Yes, if you bought at two different resorts, you could book at either at 11 months, but only by using the points from that resort, you could not combine the two to make a longer reservation at 11 months.

With 2 different Home Resorts you would not be able to combine points until 7 months or less so from 11 months through 7mos +1day out BLT points can only book at BLT and SSR can only book at SSR. With banking &/or borrowing you probably can work it out to have enough points to reserve what you want during the Home Resort priority booking period but just keep in mind that banked points have to be used by the end of Use Year they are banked into and if you borrow points in those points cannot be 'put back' into the Use Year they originally were part of. It can seem a bit overwhelming but it isn't too difficult to learn the DVC ropes and plan things to work well for your vacation habits :thumbsup2

Best wishes :goodvibes

Your home resort is the place that you own points. So, if you buy BLT points, they can be used at BLT 11 months in advance and for those points, BLT is your home resort. Your SSR points can be used at 11 months at SSR and again, for those points, that is your home resort.

At 7 months, you can then combine the points to book stays at any of the resorts.

If you own more than one resort, you can use banking and borrowing and have more points to use at each resort at 11 months.

Good luck!

Also make sure they have the same use years.....it will work if they aren't the same, but makes it more complicated.

We have a total of 6 contracts. DVC set it up to be the same UY without our asking. After a while, you realize the benefit of having only one UY.

Before you decide to buy a portion of points at AKV and rest at BLT through Disney make sure that does not affect discount price. Disney has tiered discounts in that the more points you buy for a particular resort the higher the discount off the purchase price and I am not sure what happens if you to decide to buy two resorts at a lower point total per resort. Also be aware that chances of getting rooms at AKV at 7 months out, if not seeking value or concierge rooms, are usually high most of the year. Chances of getting BLT at 7 months out are not as good. Also BLT has the lower dues. Thus consider those factors in your purchase choice.

In any event, as noted above, owning at two resorts does not improve your home resort advantage -- only points attached to a resort can be used 11 months out for a reservation at that resort. If it weren't that way, everyone would buy a lot of points at SSR for a low price, and then a 25 point add-on at BLT to get to use all their points at BLT 11 months out. BLT would be overrun with reservations being made 11 months out effectively destroying the true BLT owner's booking advantage.

Really?! I thought you got what you got.

Disney sells you one use year and it does not have to be the one they are selling at any particular point in time because you can, upon your request, buy one different from that. It allows you to purchase a second use year only if your purchase for that year is the minimum points required of a new purchser. When you do add-ons through Disney you can only buy the same use year you already have subject to the same rule that you can get another use year if you purchase the minimum number of points required of a new purchaser. What has varied in receent times is the minimum points required of a new purchaser as it was usually 160, for some short periods it was 100, and then some have mentioned even being able to purchase 50 as a new purchaser in the last year or so at times.

They would "let you" but they really discourage it and if they can help it, they will try to find you the same UY. Even with the same UY, the names MUST match exactly. IE you can't own one as a couple and one as an individual.

You can pick your use year, as long as the resort you want has points for that particular use year available. But every subsequent contract purchased directly through Disney will have to have the same use year, regardless of resort.

Yes and if you've got the patience and aren't in any great hurry you can waitlist for the UY and Resort you want points at and you'll get it....eventually, somtimes relatively quick and other times the wait can be a long time. With new resorts being sold usually they can work it out quicker, they want to make the sale of course; with 'older' resorts they acquire it through ROFR.
