If we can no longer share on DDP then...

;) Thanks Mom!

Since I pop in and out of disboards every so often, I never seem to have the whole scoop. Whew, I got a little nervous for a minute. I'll stick with my original plan. Also, we plan to leave extra so hopefully everything will run smooth and everyone will be :) !!
Hate surprises - so had it been official I would have planned accordingly.

Thanks all!

Enjoy your trip:thumbsup2

Exactly. We are OOP folks. Our typical meal out for two adults and one child goes like this: We get one appetizer to split between us. We cannot eat more then that and we actually like to save room for the meal! We all get our own entree. More then likely DD and I will get dessert but my mom, who goes with us to WDW, skips dessert because she is too full from her entree and a bit if appetizer. I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe that everyone can each get their own appetizer, entree, and dessert and actually eat it all! There is either a huge amount of waste or gluttony going on. LOL!
Above, you say you get an appetizer to split, but in another post you said sharing should not be allowed at any TS place. Those are conflicting posts, unless I am misunderstanding. I think diners should be given the option of sharing at non buffet/non dinner shows/non preplated eateries. For example, my DD3 sometimes will only eat a few fries when we take her out to dinner with us. I would prefer no to order her even a kid's meal on those occasions, as she will take only a few small bites from my plate and be done. I have ordered a side of fries, a small salad, cup of soup, etc for her to nosh while we are eating, but I don't feel we should be forced to order for her or pay a 10 sharing fee. We will not frequent a restaraunt that does that.

I eat out a lot at restaurants that charge for entree sharing though we never share. No one ever charges for appetizer sharing as that is pretty much what they are for. I don't think Disney should have a sharing price for regular diners but do think they should for the DDP folks. There is no reason why anyone should share as all as the food is prepaid. Some folks, or many as by this board, are trying to get as much eeked out of the plan as possible. I would love to see the credits have a dollar amount and no sharing. I think everyone at the table must use a credit and not be able to save credits for other more costly meal. I don't think Disney really saw the cheating and conniving that was coming when they came out with such a plan. Now I believe Disney will be changing the rules for that.

Regarding DaisyD's comments, Do you really think that Disney did not understand what they were doing? IMHO, they were well aware and knew that there were loopholes to the DDP. They are in the business to make money and if this plan wasn't a WIN for Disney then it wouldn't be offered. If the costs were warranted they would have tightened the loopholes. Sharing is well established in the dining industry (and waitstaff often bring an extra plate without being asked.)

It is human nature to eek out as much of the plan as possible. Do you think that Disney thought people would purchase the plan and then eat food that had a value of under $38 a person? And the big question still remains, How many people have actually been denied sharing on the DDP? I am prepared but not worried.

Along those same lines...if there really is that much abuse, why in the world (no pun intended) would they ever offer the plan for free? I really think everyone just needs to settle down about this and just go and have a great time. It's giving me a headache (but yet I can't stop opening these threads)!

You're kidding right? Why should regular diners get to share and not people on the dining plan? Last Sept we had the dining plan, plus I had the DDE card. We had no problem using both everywhere we went, except San Angel Inn. My D-I-L wanted to try it, but I knew from past experience that I didn't like their food. My son and D-I-L ordered using the dining plan and I told the waiter I wasn't hungry and would just use my DDE card to order the cheese fundido appetizer for my meal. He refused saying only one discount was allowed per table. I wasn't hungry and didn't like their food anyway. Why should I have had to use one of my DDP credits for food I knew I wouldn't eat? We chose to just let me share with my D-I-L. I think I tried like maybe three bites. According to the new rules and by your comments that shouldn't be allowed and I should have to use one my DDP credits even though I wouldn't do anything besides sample a bite or two.

In May we bought the dining plan and my mom and I shared two meals, simply because neither of us were hungry at the time. However, she is a very brittle diabetic who must eat small meals, frequently on a regular schedule or her blood sugar will drop drastically and unexpectedly. Should we have to use two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts just so she can eat a few bites of protein and starch in order to keep her sugar up? At those meals, even sharing, we had food left. We paid for the dining plan, so why shouldn't we be allowed to share. I'm not talking about using kids credits for adults or even sharing every meal, but it would definitely be a waste to make us each use a TS if one of us really wants just a few bites. We've never tried to max the plan out and just order what we want and I feel we should continue to be able to do so. I would not have a problem paying a fee to share though, since there would be extra silverware and service involved. By the way, even when we shared we tipped extra just like everyone had ordered to make it up to the waiter.
