If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

I am so cracking up over that announcement. That is just too funny.

I am not a fan of Remy's menu and your brunch makes me think I am right. It's too fancy for a country gal like me. :rotfl2:
I wouldn't know how to eat half of it. :confused3

Jen, the announcement has been a running gag ever since! :rotfl2:

As for the menus at Remy - if you "take them apart" they are mostly common things with a fancy name, served in a HUGE plate. :goodvibes I am sure you would have loved most of them. :thumbsup2
Dinner menu (and we went twice those cruises) are a bit different, there were items I was not too fond of too, but it was nice to experience it. :goodvibes

Hi Karin! Thanks for sharing your Remy brunch! It looks very nice - but like Jenseib said, it is quite fancy. I think I would enjoy every bit of it, but I was picturing DH saying, "what is this stuff?" And "Where's the food?" the whole time - I think I would want to do that one with a lady friend.:lmao:

Tammie, the experience itself is fancy. The setting and the service are a bit over the top and since there are so many courses, I guess, your DH would be pleased in the end. It is fun to "take it apart" and it comes down to things that are pretty common - the gnocci for instance you'll find on every good Italian restaurant's menu. Fish course was basically fish served on top of very nicely done scrambled eggs :rotfl2: ....... should I go on? :rotfl2:
We don't really take the service seriously as we have never come across a restaurant that is run like this one (and believe me we have been to quite a few high end ones), but we had so much fun with Mathieu in the end, we HAD TO go back. :goodvibes

Karin I have to say how amazing reading through this report is for me. When you mentioned the announcement of Issac I had a total flash back of that day!!! We had to take Angie to the infirmary on that day and could not believe the difference in the motion of the ship down there all I can say is:crazy2:!!! When we were on deck 6 we could hardly tell we were in the storm but when on deck two I could barely walk!!! I was really rocking down there!!!!
Again thanks so much for writing these amazing trip reports you have given me the joy of reliving our cruise over and over again!!!!:goodvibes

Michelle, by now, I think we are so used to stormy seas as we hardly ever have had a cruise without a storm thrown in. ;) :lmao:
But you could tell, the further "down" you were the more you felt it.
I am glad you enjoy the trip report, I am so hoping we are going to get to cruise together again one day. :thumbsup2

Day 16, August 26

Food, food and even more food ……….. - Part 3

Mathieu promised to share, but we had something else in mind. After having delivered a little extra treat we went back to our stateroom to dress in some more comfortable things and rest for a little while.
And while we were still chilling there was an announcement made by the captain, that they had to cancel the Pirate Party, because of the rain. They were going ahead with the pirate menu in the dining rooms as preparations had already begun, but the party and fireworks would be the next day. It was still raining heavily, so we watched the weather forecast on TV and had a look at what they offered on TV, but after a while we got ready to head down to Guest Services again.

And we were on a mission. A mission to find Bettina. So we walked down to the mid ship elevator and went down to deck 3 and over to the Guest Service desk. There were not many people in line and we quickly found someone, who we could ask if they knew Bettina and when she would be there. She was still off duty, but would be there in the evening on the late night shift. So, our next stop was Michelle’s stateroom. There had been a cabin crawl organized, but somehow I did not really get on with the TA who had organized it, so we backed out, but we were very interested in the layout of a handicapped accessible stateroom.
So in the afternoon we knocked and Tracy welcomed us in. The stateroom seems huge at first sight, but given that they had a teenager in a wheelchair in there it instantly “shrunk” in size. We shared some time and thoughts about the cruise until it was time for us to head back to the shops and for Michelle and Angelina to get in line for the character meet and greet. We made it just in time for Angelina to meet with Minnie

and Chip and Dale.

And after all that fun and play it was finally time to get back to our stateroom and get ready for dinner at Palo. So, after a little rest we changed into our Palo attire and then went up to the restaurant. Again, after signing in we were asked to wait at Meridian before we were led into the restaurant.
We were seated in one of the booths there were a bit back from the windows and while we were still getting comfortable there, our server, Antonio, came by to introduce himself and hand us a menu.
He then took our order for drinks, water and a Diet Coke. Antonio quickly returned with our drinks and took our dinner order, then returned with the Antipasti cart to prepare a plate

with Prosciutto, bresaola, parmesan reggiano, marinated olives, marinated red peppers and artichokes, then drizzled it with aged balsamic. He also brought out

the bread basket, Grissini sticks and focaccia bread. There was some photo taking and then we started to nibble away. Those antipasti are really wonderful. We had not even finished half of our antipasti when our starters arrived at the table. Tom had ordered the

Cioppino, an Italian tomato fish stew with a calamari, clams, shrimp and halibut, scented with garlic and basil. My choice was a lot simpler, I had ordered their modern interpretation of

Mozzarella and Plum Tomatoes with Balsamic Dressing. Both were really good and we still nibbled on the antipasti as well. When Antonio came to take away the plates we talked a little about his home town in Italy and how he liked it on the DREAM. This was his first season and he was quite pleased.
Soon after he came back with the palate cleanser,

Lime sorbet. It was cold and tart and so refreshing. Right after that our main courses were served. Again, Tom had found something unusual that tickled his fancy on the menu. He had ordered

the Pan-seared Calves Liver Mele e Cipolle, on polenta cake with caramelized apples and onions, garnished with air-dried prosciutto. And again I had gone the safe route. I had ordered the

Beef Tenderloin "Palo", which was served with Palo signature Barolo red wine sauce and their gorgonzola sauce. Antonio had suggested to try it with both sauces and they had divided the plate with a line of balsamic reduction. To say we enjoyed our main courses does not do them justice, they were so good. Tom’s liver was still pink and not chewy at all, while the tenderloin could have been cut with a fork. We were both pretty full, but Antonio insisted on us having dessert and you cannot let your server down, can you? ;)
So we both ordered the

Chocolate Soufflé, with Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauce. Best soufflé on the planet! So rich, but then so creamy and wonderful, and with both sauces being added even better, if that is possible. Once we were done, we signed the bill after leaving Antonio a nice tip and slowly crawled back to our stateroom.
We got changed and rested for a while and then went down to guest services to find Bettina. We got in line, and when we were close enough to read the name tags we saw that she WAS there and let people go ahead of us, so we would get the “right” cast member. Finally it was our turn to head over to her and we were stunned when she greeted us in German.
It took us a few moments to get over the initial shock that she had thrown my nicely planned out conversation out the window, but soon we laughed and she told us how she went through the guest list to find any Austrians on there. We were the only ones on that particular cruise and she was happy to see us. We thanked her for the Magical Moments Certificate and told her that we had had lunch at Remy and run into her husband. Well, what do you know, she already knew about it. She was laughing when she told us that he had been as excited as we had been to see us again. And she went on to tell us about her engagement on the DREAM and how everyone seemed to have known apart from her. She had been so shocked that she had craved something sweet when she got back to her stateroom and Mathieu had given her some of our chocolate and wafer biscuits, so we were somehow part of her engagement party.
She went on to tell us about their wedding on a Nassau day and that she was pretty happy to work on the ship now, even though, she and Mathieu would not return after their contract. It was sad to hear, but very understandable. We talked about 10 minutes, then she thanked us for the sweets Mathieu had brought back to their cabin and we handed her another little bag full of Austrian candy and chocolate, which made her very happy. We told her to be back later in the cruise and that we would be on board for the next cruise as well before we said our goodbyes and left her to her night shift, while we made our way up to our stateroom

to just fall into bed for a good night’s sleep!

To be continued ............

Thats so funny that she knew who you were right away.
Glad you got to meet her.

You guys are global ambassadors! Palo looks amazing as usual although I wouldn't touch that liver with a 10 foot pole. :) I could really go for one of those souffles as my second breakfast this morning! :rotfl2:

What a lovely meeting. How nice that you got to meet and who doesn't live Australian candy? My neighbor, also Karin, is from Germany and she comes home with yummy treats.

Reading from my phone. Your Palo dinner sounds amazing and in a way I'm glad the pictures are too small for me to see right now! Haha

She so threw me for a loop, as I had carefully planned out what to say to her. :rotfl2: She later explained that when she looked for Austrians on the ship, she checks the registered guests and yip, there are the photos they take of you. :lmao:
We saw her a few more times and it always made our day! :thumbsup2

Tha food looks so good! :goodvibes

It was food overload, but it was all disneylicious! :goodvibes

We always enjoy Palo dinner. To be honest, liver is not my favourite food either, but Tom really enjoyed it. It was cooked perfectly pink and was very tender.
And I am SO looking forward to one of those souffles during the summer. :thumbsup2

It was awesome to meet Bettina. Especially since we had such a lot of fun with her husband. :thumbsup2
Are you going to book Palo for your cruise? It really is worth skipping the main dining room. :thumbsup2

What a fun meet with Bettina and how sweet. You are both amazing with the connections you make with the CM's, it's lovely to read about.

I am so full reading about your day!

I love the presentation of the sauces on your entree, just lovely!

We also loved the ice lobster and shrimp, and the onion soup. The Grand Marnier Souffle is the best....my mouth is watering.

That announcement had me laughing!! Yes, you are pros at cruising during a hurricane. That is my worst fear of cruising, I don't think I would leave my stateroom.

I like your dinner at Palo's much better than your lunch at Remy. It was so nice that you got to see Mathieu and then to meet his wife. You have such a great connection with cast members.

It was so nice to meet her in person after having heard so much about her. :goodvibes
And connecting with CMs is easy if you stay on the ship as long as we did. You really get to know them and they get to know you. :goodvibes

It was A LOT of food that day. All we did was eat all day. :rotfl2:

The announcement was SOOOOOO funny! All the reassuring news first and then being told the truth. :rotfl2:
So far we have been pretty lucky with cruising during storms. They were always able to get out of its way and we only had rainbands and choppy seas, now, with Sandy last year, I would NOT have liked that so much. ;)

Connecting with Mathieu was so easy, as he was so excited to have Austrian guests before his wedding. Then this year I could not believe he was able to remember us! :cloud9:

Hi Karin! I have been away from the DIS for ages, but I am finally all caught up on your TR! :cool1:

I am so excited that you are on the ship now - and I love that you were able to reconnect with CMs you had met previously (and a new fellow Austrian!).

This is a great preview for our Fantasy cruise in August!!!

Okay Karin, Jim could get behind the Palo dinner for sure!:thumbsup2 He loves a good cioppino!:thumbsup2 It is so nice you got to make a special friendship with Mathieu and Battina! I'm sure they appreciated all the treats as much as you appreciated them getting to know you and surprising you with German!:goodvibes

Too bad the pirate party got postponed. I guess as much as you cruise, you were okay with it. pirate:

Wonderful updates, Karin!! So cute that you met the server's wife before you even knew who she was! All of the food looks so incredibly great!

I don't think I will ever get tired of ooh and awing over all the good food you eat while on your cruises. Your meal at Remy looks quite outstanding...especially with all the pairings. :goodvibes

Oh wow Karin, I have only just read your Remy review

Everything looks delicious!

We so enjoyed our dinner there but now I want to go for brunch/lunch!

I tried the Moët & Chandon Ice Champagne at the Champagne Tasting on the Fantasy last May and fell in love with it :)

WOW Karin that has too be my most favorite update you have ever done:goodvibes. I had a good laugh thinking about us both backing out of the cabin crawl and then they still stopped by my cabin when YOU and TOM were in it :rotfl:!!!
All of the pictures of my sweet angel just warm my heart today. She will be having another difficult week on Thursday she will be going under general anesthesia for some more test . Your report really upped my spirits today THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
