Just got back from a cruise (Wish from October 13-17). We bought magicbands prior to the cruise.

A couple of comments, in case you are debating this purchase:
1. Loved the convenience of opening stateroom door.

2, Hated that every single time we wanted to charge something to our room (Ie charges for specialty coffee, specialty ice cream, lounges, gift shop, beverages at Castaway Cay etc) the person doing the charge needed to take your hand back with them. It boggles my mind that the band needed to be removed so often. And, my so -in-law gave the Castaway Cay server his band when he ordered a cooler with waters. Then, I was at the chairs, needing to sign off on the receipt, and collect his band (which I had no idea what his band had for character-design).

We were also at the parks prior to the cruise, and bands were used then too. But, I would not purchase bands solely for the cruise, as we had purchased the protector thingy’s which were a pain to readjust once the bands went back on our wrist.

Also…if you get bands, have them activate them when you are checking in at the port. The cast member checking in my husband and me did this for us, so we were ready to go when we got on the ship. My daughter’s experience was different,,,the cast member checking them in asked if they had magic bands, but did not activate them for the cruise, so my daughter’s experience needed to spend an hour in line at guest services to have this done, after we got on the ship.

It’s easier to use lanyard w card for charging stuff. If you aren’t going to use them in the parks , definitely don’t need them just for a cruise. I use mb mainly for the door and tapping on/off ship. Used to wearing the band at WDW, when I stay at Universal one time I got all the way to citywalk and then noticed I left my lanyard w AP and room card in my hotel.

Thanks for the review. I have not been a fan of Magic Bands since day 1 (I refuse to wear them in the parks),and I certainly don't see the value in paying to buy them for a cruise. My KTTW Card has never failed me, and wearing it on a lanyard is no trouble at all. I'm old school. ;)

We are all just the opposite. Wear the magic bands so often we are way past used to them. So easy to charge, ticket into parks and key to the room. We used the keys to the world cards before and would never go back.

I will use them in the parks if I remember to bring one of the old (free) ones but I won't wear it. I hang it on my bag.

I like them for the kids in the kids club, my daughter would rather wear the MB+ than carry her card.

Hard to believe they still haven't been able to make it just like the parks when it comes to making purchases with a band where you just tap it. Would probably give them a big bump in MagicBand+ sales if they ever did. Are the POS systems really that much different?

My wife NEVER wants to carry her card so I always end up having to hand her mine. I insisted on a Magic Band+ for her last Spring. She ended up really liking it for getting back into the room, purchasing things when I wasn't "handy", and in general not depriving me of my card to minimize my hassle.

Add the bonus that the Magic Band will spontaneously react to things on the ship...fun stuff!

Personally I love the MagicBand+ or something similar to it over a traditional key card...

Well worth the money. I don't mind taking it off and on. No different than taking a key card out of my pocket really...

Personally I dislike the lanyards, especially the folks who strut around with those Castaway Club badges like they are living out a real-life version of the Sneetches...

You don't like that people are using the free amenity DCL provided (lanyards) in the way lanyards are designed to be used (worn for easy access)? That's a wild take. I have never felt less than because the person at the table next to me is sporting a pearl lanyard. Mostly I ask them their favorite ship and any server recommendations. They are normally extremely nice and I appreciate the insight.

I personally suspect at some point DCL will sell MB+ that are associated with Castaway levels, like they have sold AP & DVC member specific MB+.

I want them to make the small band/sliders Iike they have for annual pass holders to put on the MB+ as an option instead of a lanyard. I don't care what anyone else's status is, but I like having something to show it. It makes for good conversation, as you've said. I use my old AP one to make sure my band doesn't fall off (as for some reason, I catch it on things and it pops off). I turn it inside out so that it doesn't say AP holder, since now I'm not.

We had those slider things-got them from Etsy. Those sliders saved us from losing bands on multiple occasions.

I happened to have the slider in the bottom of a pocket in my backpack on one cruise and I was so glad. For some reason on that trip, it was particularly happening! Now I just have it on there all the time.

I wear a lanyard at work every day with my work badge and my IS (to log on) token. I don't mind wearing it, unless I am NOT wearing a collared shirt, then the lanyard sticks against the back of my neck. I don't want to wear collared shirts on my cruise vacation, so the Magic Band is for me. I just won't buy anything :)
