If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

Oh, I'll gladly share Tom's shrimp and fish. That looked sooooo good and reminds of the treats I used to have when I lived in Spain.

Karin, I love the way you and Tom vacation. Even grocery shopping is an adventure. And you get to take it back home without Customs to deal with.

Thank you for sharing your trips with us. Just what I needed on a rainy day.

Hi Karin! I'm all caught up and so excited to have a connection! :cheer2:

It looks like you had a good trip across the pond with tasty treats again. Nice to stay at the Hyatt when you got in - very relaxing, isn't it? We stayed there the night before our cruise once and really loved it. We are planning to do the same again next July when we go to WDW.

Our move went well, but our settling in is taking time. Some things to sort out with our jobs and Jim's retirement - quite a rocky start, but it will all be okay eventually. Staying with DBIL and DSIL and lots of pets so we have yet another move to make once we find a house.

I won't be around alot yet, as I'm using DBIL's wifi connection and he doesn't have unlimited data.

I've come to one conclusion...

You don't travel...

You SHOP!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

What lovely food, but those small fish & shrimps grossed me out! I don't want my food looking back at me!:crazy2:

Bob liked the look of Tom's seafood pizza, wants one of those!

I use Barilla pasta all of the time, it's great pasta.

I love those Disney beads, my bracelet is full with nothing but the Disney beads. I'm now trying to fill my Pandora bracelet. Those beads are mostly gifts.

Doris, I can asure you, both the fish and the shrimp closed their eyes before they took their bath in the fryer! :rotfl2:
And even though they might have looked strange ..... they were delicious! :thumbsup2

I bought my bracelet on board the DREAM. I always thought they were Pandora, but heck, they are not. Unfortunately not all Disney beads fit the Pandora, so I was happy to see that the ones sold in Italy were NOT Pandora, but Chamila as well. :woohoo:

Italy looks so awesome. That is a dream of a trip I hope to take some day. My DH has been to Italy before and loved it. We are hoping to get there some day. It is on our bucket list for sure.

I absolutely love your bracelet. I have to ask, what kind is it and where do you get something like that? The bracelet I wear is one that I get at Disney that is jeweled and has mickey heads on it. I think they cost around $15 and I am on, I think, my fourth one. So something like that may be much better for me.. ;)

And most of your food looks awesome. Except for that fishy dish of Tom's. Yuck. However, I do like fish and I do like shrimp, but served like that, icky. Heads and tails off please. :rotfl:

Italy is very nice (not as nice as Austria, if I might say so ;) :rotfl2:) and we really enjoy our short visits there. You really need to go and see for yourself. :thumbsup2
My bracelet is a Chamila. I bought it on board the DREAM. I always thought they were Pandora bracelets, but I learned otherwise on the DREAM. The charms are between 40 and 50$ if I remember correctly and they offer a lot of Murano beads as well, so I was happy to find some more in Italy. :goodvibes

The shrimp and fish were so yummy - just too much. The portion was HUGE!!!

It was nice to travel for once and not worry about customs. We get most of the pastas here too, but the price in Italy is unbeatable! About a third of what we would pay here and some shapes are pretty unusual, so that's another reason to buy.

Soon we will be able to return to the US trip report ..... more sunshine - I promise! :goodvibes

Tammie, I am so happy the move went okay so far. I really hope everything works out well for you soon!

Ups ....... you caught me indulging in my secret addiction - travel shopping. :rotfl2:

Right that's decided it ..... Pizza for dinner tonight :cool1:

Hope your pizza was as good as the ones we had! :thumbsup2

:woohoo:More lovely pizzas :woohoo:

They were so good! That last restaurant we went to, had the absolutely very best pizza of them all.
Can't wait to have more! :thumbsup2

Karin I showed Mick your pictures of the food you had in Italy. He said he would like to try the little fried fish and it was interesting to see the shells on the pizza!

A traditional Frutti di Mare pizza has shellfish in its shells in Italy and the last one Tom had was really beautiful to look at and tasted really yummy too. :thumbsup2
I cannot believe we will be heading back to Italy pretty soon again. ;) :cheer2:

Hi Jeff!
Glad to see you here. When IS your solo trip? You said December, didn't you? You are so going to love it ...... and you DESERVE this trip!!!!!
I am sorry to deliver bad news, but we will be travelling through California in the summer of 2014, but if you could make it for President's week, that would be awesome. ;) :thumbsup2

:scared1::scared1: ahhhhhh!! I do not think i can do presidents week as a family but I might try to work lily over for another solo trip to see you guys she might go for that ? but i have time to push this issue in a year or so ::yes::::yes::

Okay, I think I am feeling caught up.:thumbsup2

:cool1: for booking DLRP. I love seeing your pictures since there is no way I will ever convince DH or DD to go there.

Your pictures of the drive to Italy are just beautiful. I am really hoping Caitlin gets the travel bug as she gets older because I really need a travel partner willing to go to Europe with me. I think DH would probably laugh me right out the room if I ever mentioed that I really want to do a Med. cruise one day.

Your desserts look so good, especially the chocolate covered one. The seafood covered pizza, on the other hand, not so good. I saw you post on dining etiquette still being important in Austria and you reminded me of dinner on our cruise. There were so many knives, forks, and spoons on the table I had no clue which was which. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I just googled a proper place setting and actually managed to use mostly the right ones, but will have to print out a cheat sheet next time.

The MCO Hyatt looks great. If we ever fly in late at night again we will have to stay there.

Oh no! What a shame you can't get a family vacation in in February. :sad1: But are you sure Lily is up to cruising on her own then? We are taking a cruise to avoid the crowds at WDW at President's week.
Well, whatever you decide, I will still keep my fingers crossed so we can work something out that fits ALL of us. :thumbsup2

Welcome back, Diane!
Thanks for sharing our excitement about going back to DLRP. I just love it at Christmas time, so nice when it is all decked out for the holidays.
And I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed so Caitlin will travel to Europe with you.

Yes, proper tablemanners are something we still hold pretty high here. :goodvibes ..... and don't worry, once you have figured out how it works, picking the correct cutlery is easy peasy.

You will love the Hyatt. It was really relaxing and fun staying there, even for one night. We will definitely go back next summer for a night. :thumbsup2

Italy September 2012

Day 3, September 23

We’ll be back soon! - Part 2

While we sat and ate the restaurant filled up considerably and when we finally left it was nearly full.
And again I had one other thing I wanted to try. At a gelateria on the other side of the road they had home made ice-cream bars and cookie sandwiches, which looked yummy. So after the sales person had explained them all to us I opted for a

Pistachio ice-cream cookie sandwich, which was half dipped into white chocolate and sprinkled with ground pistachios. To say it was delicious would be an understatement. It was so good.
I finished it sitting at a little wall overlooking the ocean and it seemed like the perfect ending to a wonderful trip.
Once I was done we got into the car and started driving towards Austria again. The skies were overcast,

but it didn’t rain and an hour and a half later we drove back into Austria.

We put a few of the mountains behind us and found lovely sunshine.

There were two minor traffic jams, one we could drive around, the other we had to wait in for about 10 minutes, but then we were rolling again. We got home at around 7.30, unpacked the car

and had a nice dinner of all the nice goodies we had picked up in Italy. Since we both had to go to work the next day, we soon called it a day and went to bed early.

Hi Karin! I am all caught up and so enjoyed your short trip to Italy. The jewelry you purchased is just beautiful. And I loved all the pics of delicious Italian food!

How exciting that you booked the DLRP trip. :woohoo: I can't wait to read all about it and see the pictures!

I am glad you enjoyed "coming along" to Italy. We really enjoy those short breaks and with a 5 hour drive it is also quite doable for a weekend.

We cannot wait to go to DLRP. Even though it is also just a weekend trip, it will be nice seeing it all again decked out for Christmas. :goodvibes

And now back to our regularly scheduled programme - our trip to Walt Disney World!

But just a little reminder .......

In exactly 3 weeks from now we will be back in Italy. :goodvibes

In exactly 6 weeks from today we will be at Disneyland Paris. :woohoo:

Day 2, August 12

“Aren’t you Karin from the DISboards?” - Part 1

We both were up early that day and decided to finally get out of bed by 5am. Tom made some coffee and we sat out on the patio sipping it.

Then while Tom took a shower I put all the things we would no longer need at the moment into the purple box and packed the fold-up bag we had brought with things we had stored in the box previously.
Once Tom was done, I took a shower, then we packed up all our stuff and and around 7.45 we took our Owner’s Locker box back to luggage services to be taken back to the warehouse, then went back to the room, checked for forgotten items and headed down again to check out of our home for the night. We rolled our luggage over to the rental car desks and got in line.
There were only 3 other people in line ahead of us and in no time it was our turn. We had a prepaid reservation voucher and all we still wanted to buy was a Sunpass so we could use the toll roads on our way to Key West. In the end the employee talked us into buying roadsafe as well, and even though we did not need it this trip it was a reassuring feeling to know that there were no other costs coming our way in case of an emergency. After about 10 minutes we were handed the paperwork, given an isle to look for and told to pick “any colour we liked”.
Woohoo, we got to pick a car, what a change from Hertz that assigns you one. Or so we thought.
Again, we rolled our luggage across the street and over to the Dollar section of the rental cars and there we looked for the section we were told to look for. Well, the section was empty! We had booked a convertible and there was only one in the section opposite, so we took our paperwork and went to ask someone about where to look. We were pointed towards the convertible we had seen before and told it was the only one they had.
Okay, pick any colour – we picked the only silvery convertible there was! And a silvery Mustang Convertible was ours.
Tom opened the trunk and we put our large suitcase in, then tried the big bag we had, no way would it fit. So we took both items out, put the suitcase in and shoved it to one side, then put in the foldable bag, which fit nicely and we were even able to squeeze in the carry ons.
Tom took the top of the car down and put the large bag in the back seat, we fixed our GPS and were soon on our way towards Walt Disney World. Being able to use the Sunpass lane made the drive short and easy and before we knew it we were on Hotel Boulevard and going towards Downtown Disney.
It was just 9am when we drove into the parking lot and easily found a parking space very close to the “Once upon a toy” store. There is only one way to officially start off a vacation and it is by having a meal at Wolfgang Puck’s Express.
So we quickly headed over there, no one in line in front of us and since we already knew what we wanted we didn’t even have to look at the menu board. We ordered, applied the AP discount, took our glasses and filled them with Diet Coke on the way to a nice table, where we placed our number stand on the table. A server came by very quickly and brought out some cutlery and in no time our breakfast arrived. Tom had ordered his favourite,

IMG_4670.jpg

IMG_4671.jpg

Wolfgang's Breakfast Pocket, scrambled eggs, peppers, Niman Ranch Bacon, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella and cheddar cheese baked into Wolfgang's pizza dough and I had gone for MY favourite,

IMG_4669.jpg

the Smoked Bacon Pizza, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mozzarella and cheddar cheese and Ranch Dressing. It was just the perfect breakfast. We both loved it and did our best to finish our breakfasts. Tom succeeded, I had to give up after three quarters of the pizza.
Once we had finished breakfast, we walked through the “Once upon a Toy” store, then proceeded over to the World of Disney. There were two things I wanted to take a look at. We walked through the other stores, then finally hit the World of Disney, which was blissfully uncrowded.

To be continued ............

Loved seeing more beautiful mountains on the return drive to Austria! :thumbsup2

Yeah for arriving at WDW. You guys were up bright and early. Nice.

The breakfast pizza at WPE looks so yummy. I really need to try one of those. Yum!

So, where to next?
