Ok, so I am thinking that we will get our bags and bring them with us to the ME bus.
ONLY, b/c we want to swim that afternoon, when we arrive, and then we are going to MNSSHP that evening. If on the off chance the luggage takes a while to arrive at the hotel we will not have our costumes.

So it is fairly easy when you bring your luggage with you to the ME bus, AND when you arrive at the hotel?
I mean I know it is easier for them to appear in your room, but it is still pretty painless? LOL

Thanks!

You could also just pack a carry on bag with all those items. Take that with you on the bus and let DME deliver the rest.

I personally would take a carry on with swimsuits and costumes. That is what we have done.

However, yes it would be fine to get your own luggage. It's no different than picking up your own luggage and getting a taxi, Mears transport, rental car, etc. Transporting your luggage around the resort to get to your room isn't always the funnest, but it isn't difficult. Part of the enjoyment about ME is to not have to worry about your luggage. I'd give it a second thought. :thumbsup2

I am going to do the same thing in Sept. I will be arriving really late, like around 11:00 or 11:30pm. I plan on bringing my bags with me to the ME bus so I don't have ME bringing my luggage to me at like 3 or 4 in the morning.

That's good advice from safetymom and magicaldisney.

You can get the best of both worlds by packing carry-on bags with only those items that you'll need the first day, and allowing your checked luggage to "magically appear" in your room.

The big advantage is that you can go directly from your arrival gate to the Magical Express Welcome Center. You could already be on a motorcoach to your resort while others on your flight are still waiting for their bags to appear on the conveyor belt at baggage claim. The other advantage is that you won't have to drag your checked bags through the airport and through your resort (along with saving the tips that you would customarily pay for if you get assistance with your luggage at the airport, from the DME driver, and at your resort).

If you use DME inbound luggage handing (the yellow DME luggage tags), Disney pays the inbound bell service gratuity, so you don't have to be in your room when your bags are delivered.

That's one option.

However, please realize that bell services won't deliver at 3 or 4 in the morning.

If I were arriving that late, I would not want to go out of my way to baggage claim, wait for my luggage, and drag it with me to the Welcome Center, to the motorcoach, to the resort registration desk, and to the room.

Instead, I'd want to be on the first motorcoach to my resort. We would pack carry-on bags with anything we would need until morning — which is something everyone should do anyway in case the airline misdirects the checked bags — and I'd have our checked bags delivered the next morning.

... which is exactly what I'll be doing with my wife and 6 year old and 3 year old in November. Our flight is scheduled to arrive around 9:30 p.m. We'll have everything we'll need for that night and the next morning in our carry-ons. I'll leave instructions with my resort's front desk AND Bell Services to please hold my checked bags until morning, just in case they decide they want to be "nice" and deliver our bags at midnight.

I'd probably also use the "do not disturb sign" in case there is a shift change and a nice bell hop wants to deliver your bag.

That's excellent advice.

I would also put tags on the bags themselves, with a message such as: "Please do not deliver until after 9:00 a.m." (or until whatever time you don't want to be disturbed).

I may try the carry on route. I will have to play with the costumes and see if I can get them to fit.
They are kind of elaborate, with boots etc.
We REALLY get into MNSSHP! :)

Ask yourself what you would do if you checked the costumes, and the airline delayed your checked luggage.

I would recommend carrying on anything that you absolutely, positively need the first day — regardless of whether you use DME baggage delivery or you retrieve your own bags at baggage claim.

That is EXCELLENT advice. I always pack a change of clothing in my carryon as I've had the unfortunate luck of having bags delayed on several occasions.
