If this was your first trip to Canada

If you want stuff to do for the kids, do Montreal and Toronto. There is plenty of exciting stuff in both those cities that the kids will have fun doing.

An alternative is just to stay in Montreal or Toronto. There is lots to do in surrounding areas that give a totally different feel than the cities. You can head up to the mountains from Montreal or up to cottage country or down to Niagara Falls from the Toronto area.

I live in Toronto....downtown. Plenty to do.

However, my choice would be Montreal and the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Area between Montreal and NH, Vermont, and New York.

Breathtaking, peaceful, just flat out touches the soul. Can you tell I love it?

Living on a border town, growing up we always travelled in the States more, I'm so excited to travel more in Canada in the next coming years and this thread is making me more excited to do so!

For our honeymoon in 2005, we went to Niagara Falls for a couple days, then stopped in Ottawa for a hockey game and then on to Quebec City for a couple days! Absolutely my favorite trip so far! Niagara was awesome, so much to do and see. Ottawa we only went to the game, but Quebec City was breathtaking. We went in Oct/Nov...and it was so much fun, the buildings, the people, the food. We are already planning on returning with the kids! So Quebec City would be one of my votes!

My brother is also in Ottawa for school, and never planning on returning, he loves it. There is so much to see and do (I've been told)...we are planning on heading there soon too. We are hoping to make it a Ottawa/Montreal trip as we've wanted to see Montreal.

I'd agree with the other assessments of TO....great city to visit, but not "walking" type of visit. Wonderland is lots of fun, and it's a great Zoo, and we also did Ontario Place a couple years ago, it was fun.

I guess it really depends on your time and what your boys want to see/experience.

I live in Toronto and have lived in Montreal too. Both are lovely cities. I have been to Quebec City numerous times and I feel it is more exotic than Montreal as it is more French Speaking.

Toronto and Montreal are only 6 hours drive apart. What kinds of things do you hope to do on your trip?

Toronto and Montreal are rivals! Montreal used to be THE PLACE to live in Canada and now it appears than Toronto has taken it's title. Both are interesting cities. Montreal has a more European feel and Toronto is more multicultural - a world class city. Montreal has a great casino, lovely bridges, etc.
