If they are 40.5 inches with shoes on...

Can I stop stressing about not making it onto rides?

My twins (identical) hadn't had a growth spurt for 8 months. I think they are trying to stress me out about our upcoming Disney trip. Finally, the twin the usually grows first is almost 40 inches without shoes and a good bit about 40 inches with his sneakers on. Hopefully his brother, who is just barely above 40 with his sneakers on now, will grow in the next 60 days.

I am worried that the measuring sticks aren't exactly 40in, that they might be 40.5 or something and then my twins won't make it. They will be wearing their sneakers/socks every day we are there as those are their preferred shoes.

What do you think?

(I know this has been asked a billion times, but I just made my FPs last including ones for Test Track, Soarin, and Splash Mt, so I am nervous.)

I am worried about this too. My DS is 40.25 without shoes. With shoes he is 40.75 ( crocs). I have heard the stick at Disney is like a hair over 40 inches and that their headhas to touch. He is so excited for Splash I am afraid he won't be able to ride ( he rides the log flume at our local park but it's 36 inches with adult So he's been riding for 2 years. )

They will measure the children when you get to each ride. It's at the CM's discretion as to whether they ride or not. Sorry I can't be more reassuring, but this is for the safety of the children.

As long as your measurement is accurate, you'll be fine. Measure them before bedtime to see if they're tall enough then (our spines compress a little during the day)

I am about to put them to bed and I will measure them again. I might even make them put their shoes on! The doc measured them last week and tall twin was 39.75 without shoes. I am really hoping that short twin will get there. Tall twin grew that much in about a week (not that I am obsessively measure them or anything), so I have some hope.

I get that it is about safety. I am just worried that the measuring posts won't be exactly 40 or they will made to take off your shoes.

No one will make them take their shoes off (as long as you're not putting them in heels or wedges or stilts..)
Get a stick and have them practice hitting the bottom of it with their heads ... The kids sometimes try to not hit the bar ... That's not helpful.

Some CMs will make kids remove shoes. Sometimes the first cm says ok go but remember it is up to the second cm at the front of the line. That cm could say no even if the other said yes. Just prepare your kids that they might not ride. And practice standing straight up on flat feet. Most kids shrink away from the top of the stick. Make it a game to see if they can touch their heads to the top. If they can't ride have a back up plan of something fun they can do.

I'm sorry, but this causes needless worry. I have spent about five weeks a year in Disney for the past ten years. My dd is 12 now. I have never seen anyone asked to take off their shoes. Could it happen? Yes. Will it happen? No.

Thank you!!!

We have been talking about stretching up. Getting a stick and having then practice is a great idea. They love to get measured anyways (they want to be as tall as their big sister) so adding a stick would even make it more fun for them. I bet there is even a level I can use somewhere around here!

I did have this issue with my son on our trip a few years ago! They denied letting him on a ride (it was stitch) because they felt the heels of his sneakers were giving him too much height. I was livid- they weren't skate sneakers or anything with wedges (it was a pair of nikes!) but they wouldn't let him go even tho his head was to the line. But on the flip side I was there last year and younger son was allowed on rides I thought sure we would be cutting it close on. So maybe it just depends on the ride and the cm?

My girls were just a hair over 40 inches with shoes, and easily made the height requirement for Splash and Soarin' (those are the only ones we went on with the 40 inch height requirement)

Thank you!!! This is very good to hear. I am going to measure them again in the morning with their shoes on and find a stick of some sort. Hopefully that will help me relax a bit.

I agree with the practicing with stick as my one grandson was afraid to hit his head on the bar. not hitting bar meant no riding.took along time to get him to understand that hitting meant he could ride, he just did not want to hit his head and make it hurt. took a CM about 10 minutes of working with him to get thru to him and getting on his first major ride. remember to measure un the evening just before getting ready for bed. that way you are at their shortest, not their tallest in the morning

Last trip my daughter was measuring just at 40 inches without shoes on- about 40.5 with shoes. We practiced standing straight and trying to touch a stick with the top of her head. She was measured at every single ride and at each checkpoint for each ride that had a 40" height requirement. She made it through each time, but they would get down at eye level and check and look very carefully. Made for some cute pictures! This trip (we leave in 3 weeks), she is exactly 44" without shoes on! Space Mountain and EE here we come!

I would be prepared for them to say no, because every CM we encountered was very thorough with checking. No one asked my daughter to remove her shoes, and she was very close they probably could have.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you!

Yes we remind our girls that when they are measured they want their head to touch the top stick so not too duck down (which is a natural reaction). I swear DD3 would basically walk up and head butt it with this attitude that was like "yeah I can ride"

Depends on the ride and the CM. Our last trip DD3 was measured a lot and frequently she and the other kids all had to take off their shoes. And our kiddo is tall (we're not so haha). Clearly she was always tall enough to pass since we only did things she was tall enough for, but they still made her. A few times we saw crazy stuff like other kids who had shoes stuffed with foam? Or something? To try to be taller? It all popped out when they had to pull their shoes off and then they couldn't put their shoes back on without help and many were embarrassed or crying. There were so many times like these that's probably why the CMs were constantly checking. :(

It's better to watch YouTube videos of how they measure and be prepared -- plus warn them that they might not get to ride rather than face huge surprise disappointment. Or maybe they'll grow. Kiddo is over 45" at 4 and eating veggies to ride space mountain. She is not going to be told she's tall enough so she keeps eating well lol

There's so much to do there, you'll all have fun!

..plus warn them that they might not get to ride rather than face huge surprise disappointment.

I suspect that even if you warn a little one about possibly being rejected at Splash, there is still a good chance they will go into meltdown mode if told no. I know I did when I was little :rolleyes1

My kiddo epically meltsdown at the drop of a hat. (SPD is not always fun) But prepping her via watching youtube videos really helped.

And also, I was sure she was well tall enough (although you never know, some days a kid ducks the bar and doesn't get to ride even if they are tall enough).

If they are measured and turned away, they should give you fp's for another ride. Have seen this happen numerous times.
