What does an unexcused absence actually mean to them? Will it be a mark on their record (and if so what will that mean), is it just a letter saying "naughty naughty, we're not very happy with you, don't do it again" or will you be dragged out into the town square and stoned by the towns folk .

As you know we were thinking of taking Becci out of school next year for eight days but a friend who's a teachers and Donnys sister advised against it 'cos she'd be at high school (though more from the teachers perspective than anything else)...I've got a big yellow streak down my back so I bottled out of it but hey if they're not missing any work and there are going to be no long term effects just go for it doll

To be honest, I don't know what the consequences are. They may hold their report cards. I'm sure there will be a mark on their record, but I think you need more than 1 unexcused abscence for the state to investigate you.

OK girls.....I need some expert advice.....

Here's the sitch.......

I got a letter from the school stating that since the boys have missed 10 days, any more absences will require a doctor's excuse. By the way, 5 of those 10 days were excused for our Disney trip, the other 5 they were sick.

Now, the problem is our last day of school is now June 9 due to the make-up snow days. Nate & I will be in WDW at that time, and the boys will be 300 miles away from their school at their Grandparent's House.

What do I do???? I do not want to reschedule our trip. Do we just go anyway and let them get an "unexcused" abscence? It is a half-day in which they usually just watch movies and have a party. It's not like they are missing out on "education" right? Right now I'm leaning towards being honest with their teachers.....telling them that we will be away, and the kids will be with their Grandparents. That way the boys can turn in their books and everything in on Friday June 6 (which is also a half day).

I wouldn't worry about it. Its the last day of school and not even a full day. Have them turn their stuff in on the 6th and don't give it another thought. On my kids' last days there isn't even a millisecond of learning that goes on. Its all yearbooks and outside activites; we call it a field day. Go on your trip worry free and fuggetaboutit!

I don't mean to giggle but they are not going to investigate you sweetie; that's absurd! They need real evidence of neglect to investigate. One extra day of school missed does not constitute neglect. I love that you are so worried but really, the authorities wouldn't waste their time. Now, that one time you left them alone for the weekend with only Red Vines and beer, they might not like that.

But really I know you are truly concerned but they aren't going to do anything and big whoop if they held their report cards, they are in 3rd and 1st grade, I doubt Harvard will look back that far.

You can say that again!!! That free dining offer is killing me. Last year WDW was just a thought in the back of my head until that stinkin' offer came out and thats all she wrote- we were there! This year DH and Gab will be in D.C. in September and the little two and I will be in Disneyland so I keep telling myself there is no way to swing it. But there is no way to keep my mind from spinning.
