If the flattening isn't working is it time to face reality?

Why do you keep mentioning the number of total beds? If the number of beds exceeds the number of cases in any one place, it really doesn't matter that there are a thousand beds somewhere else.

True, so could patients be distributed to hospitals with more capacity as an emergency measure?

Yes, that is exactly what he’s saying. That’s not panic, that’s just speaking the truth.
And on top of that, our governor is saying that we are being outbid by states with more money & we can’t afford a bidding war.

Is it the lack of protective equipment or the numbers of patients that makes it overwhelming already? We have 924,000 hospital beds and about 3,000 coronavirus hospitalizations nationwide right now.
The lack of protective equipment and medical equipment like ventilators. Keep in mind, most of those hospital beds are occupied.

Back off and just be glad im coming into work everyday so you can eat
We went to Home Depot the other day and the darn employee (who appeared to be at least in his mid-60s) kept getting closer to us in the aisle. We'd move down and so would he as he was putting back certain items. Get away from me. I'm trying to stay 6 ft from you but you keep getting closer to me. It was weird.

Perhaps within each state, but I would bet other states are going to want to hold on to their beds in case they need them. Plus some of these patients come in critically ill already & transporting them to hospitals far away would probably be risky.

Not that this helps the bed situation but Harbor Frieght (which we do like to shop at) is donating N95 masks, face shields and nitrile gloves to emergency rooms in need. The specific hospital in need does need to contact Harbor Frieght (they won't know you need it unless you tell them) but I thought that was a lovely gesture.

Also heard Anheuser-Busch will join in on making their own hand sanitizer.

We get customers coming up to ask us for things, we try and stay a couple feet back but some of them just keeping inching in closer.

Not everyone CAN stay home. People working essential businesses & government services aside, people should be staying home. People should not be flocking to the beach & parks. People should not go "shopping" for something to do. People SHOULD be limiting there shopping trips. We all have to be doing our part to stop the spread and flatten the curve.

In my small town, one dumb donkey posted pictures of having a regular FULL birthday party for their child!!!! I don’t know who’s worse the parent for having it or the parents who had their kids attend it!

That’s across the entire country. Most of the hospitalization are in NYC. And I’m guessing more than half of those beds are already being used.

I think we have to assume that not everyone is staying home. They need to take that into consideration in their models. Not everyone is staying home. No, not huge gatherings like sports events or Disney World but people will find small groups. I was watching various webcams where I live and they have this feature of letting you see the entire previous day in about a one minute video. Well in a lot of public places dog people seem to always find each other and come together way closer than 6 feet apart. All day in this public park I would see random dog people gather throughout the day. It is dog people that will doom our civilization. :)
There is no way there are enough dog people in this country to come close to the people shoulder to shoulder at my local Lowes. Ex wife works there. Everyone is gathering up paint and project supplies for their staycation.

Heartbreaking news report where an administrator of a rural hospital was talking about having 28 beds in a county of 28,000 people-hospital has 1, just 1 ventilator. Yes he said that they could transport patients to a larger city, but at some point if those beds and resources are full, will they be told no don't bring your patients here. When you let this stuff sink in, it's very scary stuff.

Our distilleries here in KY are making hand sanitizer now.

Keep in mind we don't have 924,000 empty beds. We have other reasons those beds are in use, and often they are all full. In 2 semi-recent ER visits, one time they wanted to admit me, and I waited over 12 hours for a bed. A bed was never available during that time, and finally they decided I was okay to be discharged after all. For awhile during that visit I was on a cot in the ER hallway, as the ER was full. Another visit, we waited 6+ hours in the ER for a bed after they decided to admit us. The system is stressed even in non-pandemic times.

The other issue in this country is that if you lose your job due to the social distancing measures, you will also lose your health insurance. So if you get COVID-19, you can’t afford to go to the hospital.

Kind of fits scrolling to read this after I posted....

He works there and is doing his job.

Some people get wrapped up in whatever task they're involved in and you have to take action to get their attention and stop them. Put your hand up, tell them, "Back off."

I think it helps if you are wearing PPE. DW went to Publix last night wearing an N95 and gloves and people were moving way out of her way!

In a country where they deny insurance claims on very minor deviations from protocol? ha

I'm guilty of that (a week ago). I could see where this was heading so I stocked up on the supplies I needed for a few projects around the house.

It's shameful that the lack of a holistic national response strategy on this has the states fighting each other for supplies. The states hardest hit should be getting first dibs on supplies.

I had someone behind me in the line at the grocery store with a mask/gloves on. She came close enough that her purse brushed me as she grabbed a magazine from the rack behind the conveyor. ***?
