IF Staying at Park Vue Inn (PVI) You May Want To Read This

Why not? It's actually faster and your readers actually understand what you're saying. The human brain doesn't think in acronyms, it thinks in words that form sentences. It actually takes longer to think about the correct letters for the acronym the it does to type them, at least initially.

Anyway, I'm not trying to change the culture. It's just an annoying culture and not very user friendly.

Ps - I've read your articles and they are great. Keep up the great work. :)

I know this is off topic, but I have to agree. Though I will, and mostly have, figured it out (and also agree the info is awesome), it's not particularly intuitive and I'm sure scares new readers off from even trying. Makes the site have a fairly steep learning curve and does harm general readability of posts.

I also don't expect anything will change, just wanted to add that even after being on The Dis for three years now pretty regularly, I still get confused and find the abbreviation-heavy posts off-putting.

Because if I had to type out the full words every time I wouldn't. In other words I would make less posts. And so would many others. Each post might be more clear to the widest range of readers, but there would be less posts. By using short forms you get more posts and as long as one knows the short forms there is more information being shared. Yes it is more steep for newbies. But on the other hand the newbies have more information than they otherwise would have had.

My young adult children just finished a miserable stay at PVI that they were sharing with the DW but not I. I went against a good friends advice. May be I will learn the next time. First two nights no stated problems, next 4 days no maid service, when they went to get linens they were out until 2200 and woke two of them up. Complained and they were sorry.....OMG. Youngest was geeting bit on her feet and legs but wife said nothing to me, today was a different story..Alex awoke with what you see below...crawling on her with a bunch of its friends along with their tiny pals...sleep or stay at your own risk.

Both bedbugs andcockroaches, management could care less, but trust me they will when I get done with them.

Jack

:headache:
Oh no, Jack. I am so so sorry this has happened to you and your family. Sheesh. Crap. Ugh. :sad2:

Easier said then done but try not to let PVI ruin the magic of Disney for all of you.

Keep us posted as to what you will do.

When I read the title, I thought to myself, "Here we go... another complainer about one of the hotels." ;) Then I opened the thread up and saw who the poster was; due to this poster's informative, detailed posts and contributions on this board, I immediately sat up and took notice. *Information from this poster is information that I can trust.* Blackjackdelta is a long-timer here with a multitude of postings, and I believe wholeheartedly that his picture of the cockroach along with his comments Re: the hotel stay were truthful. Blackjackdelta has also always had a lot of positive things to say about other hotels in the area. So he is not a 'complainer.'

The cockroach was disgusting - is it possible housekeeping is cleaning rooms with the doors wide open, and the insects try to escape the heat, or get to the food (:crazy2:) etc.?

As far as the bedbugs go, I hope BJD (Blackjackdelta ;) ) ran through all safety protocol to bag up everything, wash it, try not to enter the home wearing the clothes, etc. etc. [I think Mugglemamma is the resident guru here for how to manage cleanliness, etc. in hotel rooms. She would know what to do! :goodvibes ]

Anyway - YES! Those who choose to cancel their stays - I agree that it is very important that you do let them know you have heard of an incident where there were cockroaches and bedbugs.... and hopefully they will do something to better maintain that in the future.

BJD has a lot of clout on these boards, and it's a shame that they didn't immediately try to remedy the situation, as it looks like they will soon have a decline in stays, as there are many who read up on hotels on the DISboards.

The only reason Blackjackdelta may wish to change his title to read Park Vue Inn is that those that don't know what PVI is will then know without looking it up. Personally, I have no problem with finding out what the acronyms mean, and I have always noticed if anyone asks what it means, someone will always helpfully respond right away. The list of acronyms is handy to have too for newcomers, that Hydroguy posted.

I hope Blackjackdelta receives resolution from the hotel management that is 100% satisfactory for the situation that his family was exposed to. Good luck, BJD!

I do agree with checking multiply resources for hotel reveiws, I am surprised by how far off on TA they are in this case. I did check BBB just now, and guess what PVI has? An 'F'.

I always check BBB when using a new business for a major purchase, but haven't in the case of hotels. I will from now on.
I just read an article in Slate magazine about a study that compared reviews on Expedia (where you have to book through them to review) to TA and the like. The study found that in big chains the overall ratings were pretty comparable, but in independantly owned properties, the reviews tended to be as much as 10% higher than on more accountable sites.

Btw -some of the complaints about DLR on bbb were kind of funny. I 'm surprised that people would actually go to BBB to complain about weather!:lmao:

Plus, the veterans are always nice about explaining what the acronyms stand for. I know I asked a couple of times when I was a newbie, and everyone was always super-nice about telling me what it stood for (and pointing me to Hydroguy's acronym thread). Believe it or not, you do start to think in acronyms after a while...

When I went to Venice, I didn't expect the locals to slow down their Italian so I could try to understand all going on around me. About the same on the board when people are posting in a hurry and using acronyms. I'm on other boards and there are other acronyms there (like TIA = thanks in advance, which I use here as well). Some people are confused by even the more generic BTW, FWIW, etc. I think the resources are here to help (like the thread posted) and otherwise, folks are happy to explain if asked (as it was here with PVI about 3 times). I realized I was in Rome, so to speak, so picked up the lingo and can usually figure it out now (and I only joined this forum a few months ago). It's heavy acronym usage to be sure, but generally it is easier to use those than spell out and usually easy to figure out for those who are willing to go half-way.

Re the original post, geez, that is AWFUL! Bed bugs are one of my worst fears. I'd have the kids saran wrap those suitcases and all clothes and unpack in the garage with fumigators nearby. And all clothes on super hot. Ugh!

I will not let this ruin my holiday or take away the magic, but if you knew what I do in a previous life, I am going to make a strong attemp at shutting them down, we will see what the health department can do to start. And a complaint to the BBB, and the CC company, just for starters.

Just beware, oh by the way, TA is known to remove bad reviews, I think you may find that searchable.

Jack

I'm still getting acronyms down and at first thought, "Bibbity Boppity Boutique?!" lol

That's terrible. My DH would probably never stay in a hotel again if that happened. I'm sorry about the bad experience.

Just to add to how wrong you are: You're also not taking into account the growing number of users who use this forums from a mobile device. My typing speed drops drastically on my touch screen phone, and the acronyms save a lot of time.

If you really want to damage the reputation would be better to use the full name at least once so people know what you're talking about.

Park Vue Inn.

FWIW- PVI has 4 BBB complaints in 3 years and has an F. DLH has 93 complaints in 3 years and has an A+. Hummmmm... Although I did not complain to the BBB when we stayed at the DLH, and the guest next door was smoking on their balcony, I did call the front desk. They thanked me for my call and said the guest would be billed for cleaning. I sure did feel better about not being able to open my door and enjoy the now defunct Koi pond and waterfall. I'm not sure if they even called the room next door, but they smoked up all 3 nights they were there. :upsidedow

Sure it saves you some time but it confuses your readers. I guess it's a choose your poison type of thing; make your life easier by saving you a few seconds or make the readers life harder by confusing them with useless acronyms.

For your information, I'm a professional web designer and developer that specializes in usability protocol. I work with accessibility and usability on mobile devices all day long so I'm familiar with the typing practices and those types of devices. And just so you know, I typed this entire post from my iPhone.

mom2tink - It looks like the 93 complaints are not just for the hotels but include all the Disney hotels and the parks. I looked through the first couple of pages and it seems that problems with annual passes were the majority of the complaints.

I think the difference in rating by BBB is based on how the BBB feels the business handles the situation after a complaint has been filed, ie whether they respond to the complaint and offer a reasonable solution. Disney hotels move many thousands of people through their hotels each year so simply by percentages will have more complaints than smaller hotels. An F doesn't mean that you have the most complaints, it 's the lack of responsiveness when a complaint is filed.

Well, this is just great. We were planning a trip in November to stay at Park Vue. We stayed there before and LOVED it. Not sure what to do. Ugh. I guess I'll be going some shopping around. I am really paranoid about bugs, especially bed bugs. We just got back from NY, and I was obsessive when booking those hotels.

PVI is off the list for first trip next year. CCI or FFI on the top of the list

I agree that the abbreviations can be difficult at first, but by either perusing the previously noted link or simply by having been on the site for a short while, you really do pick them up.

And while I certainly appreciate that you are very comfortable working with numerous devices at a quick speed, please bear in mind that not everyone is as adept as you. BBB, DH, PP, etc. make it easier for those that post quite often, or for those that are slower typers. Part of getting used to any community is getting used to their existing way of doing things.

Well, the acronyms took me a while to learn. I think it was 2 or 3 days ;). As a newbie I wasn't posting yet and by the time I was ready to post I had a good grasp of the board lingo. I like it, actually, and don't find it confusing or useless, but I'm just a regular shmuck with no particular credentials to support my opinions.

BlackJack, I am appalled at the experience you had at PVI. My very good friend often stays there so it has been on my list, even though I usually stay onsite. Occasionally I have a quick trip and need a cheaper option. I guess I will cross PVI off my list.
