and you talk to them about buying it and they want a crazy high ridiculous price for it that you know they will never get.....

Do you tell them? Or do you just politely say no and hope they realize it on their own?

I am assuming she is hoping no one will do his/her homework first and just pay it????? There is no way as it is a car!

I just politely said we aren't interested but I really wanted to shout, "Are you crazy?"

They could be selling it to see just how much money they could get for it. If I was in your shoes I would have probably said, "I'm not interested, I think the price is a little too high for me." And, leave it at that. I wouldn't want to insult them by saying something like, "what are you crazy...you would never get that!"

No comment from me. I have a friend who constantly amazes me by selling items for what I consider unreasonable prices but she often finds a buyer but sometimes she just gives up and donates it as she refuses to lower her price!

Either way, no comment unless someone specifically asks for advice!

Yeah, the "you are crazy" was what I THOUGHT. It would have come out of my mouth a bit less crass.

I'd say something like "That price is too high for me, I'd be willing to pay $XX. If you don't find someone to pay that price, let me know if you are willing to take my price for it"

Since it is a car I am not even going to bother to go look at it and waste my time. The blue book is $8K in pristine perfect condition but she has already told me it needs work and she is asking $10K as is. It will need a min. of $600 in repairs/tires and possibly up to $2,000 in repairs.

My offer would be about $6K at best.

My initial response was that I might comment on the price being too high but JennCa makes a good point. I've often seen people successfully sell things for what I thought was an unreasonable price, knowing that I could easily get the item cheaper elsewhere. Some people just don't care. They will buy out of convenience rather than price. If someone is looking for that particular car model, they may buy it rather than keep searching to save money.

Heck, I always wonder why anybody ever goes to the gas stations that are charging 20 or 30 cents per gallon more than the station right down the street. Boggles my mind but apparently many people simply don't care how much they pay for stuff.

I would not begin a conversation about the item and talk about the price. If the seller wants to begin the conversation then you can whisper in his ear that you think the price is too high.
