If no connecting rooms, then adjoining?

I requested our family (two adults and 2 boys, 4 and 2) have connecting rooms with MIL and FIL. I was told they can't guarantee connecting rooms, but would definitely get us adjoining. Does that sound right? Honestly the CM didn't seem to know much ( and she put me on hold for 5 minutes for no reason. Maybe to use the bathroom?!) I didn't think they could guarantee anything regarding adjoining rooms.

Is this the policy when you have two young kids? Or maybe I just misunderstoon her?

This sounds correct. Disney will not guarantee connecting rooms unless the number of kids out numbers the number of adults.....or so they told me. I booked a couple of rooms at the Pop for this past December and was told several times I would have connecting rooms guaranteed and I did.

I have requested connecting rooms several times and have always gotten them. Hopefully you get your request and have a great trip!

Adjoining rooms will still be next door to each other - they just won't have the interior doors that connect them together. Disney probably is looking at it from the viewpoint that you and your immediate family will be in one room, and the in-laws in the other, so it's not as critical that the rooms connect. You are probably looking at it from the viewpoint that it would be really great if the kids slept over in the grandparents room a night or two to give you some privacy. Both of these scenarios can happen with either connecting or adjoining rooms.

Our last trip we requested connecting rooms and did not get them. we didn't get rooms next to each other either at All Stars. We were in same building, same floor but opposite ends. So i don't know about any "Gaurantee"

We requested connecting rooms for our December 2007 AKL stay with my parents (we have two young boys, too). We got rooms on the same hallway, opposite sides, about 3 rooms apart. It was close enough for us.

I have requested connecting rooms through my TA for upcoming trip....I still don't see why...if you prepay for a trip they can't pre-assign your room!
They do on the cruise portion of the trip. why not the resort part?

I have requested the connecting rooms for medical reasons...FIL is closed head injury and dad is early Alzheimers....so it will in a sense be 3 adults and 4 "children." My TA from DU reminded me that WDW will not garauntee any part of a resort request....I am wondering if I should do a followup fax or call to the Poly a few days before arrival? I'm really trying hard not to stress over this but it really could make or break this part of the trip...and I do think the rates are WAY too much not to get any reasonable requests met.

We also need a patio or balcony for FIL...is has OCD from the injury and needs the outdoor area to "pull-it-together".....critical in this new environment that can be a "tad" overstimulating.

One of the main reason we chose the Poly is the beautiful outdoor areas and the Monorail....we plan on trying to give them as much freedom as possible.

You should post this question over on the Disabilities Board - they have a phone number to call for medical issues where they can lock the rooms in for you.

I would imagine that the reason it is easier to assign rooms on a cruise is because everyone essentially checks in and out at the same time on a cruise. In a hotel there are people who check in and people who check out each day along with people who choose to stay longer and people who choose to check out early.

If connecting rooms are needed and you want a guarantee, you might want to look at the Swan/Dolphin. They do guarantee connecting rooms - without any stipulations, like number of kids vs. adults. Last year I got a great rate - offered right here on the Dis - for 125 a room. That's a bargain for a deluxe.

Just a thought! This rate was for August 2007 and came out at the first of the year, on the home page of Dis.

Hotel reservations are more fluid/flexible than cruise reservations. You don't have anybody on a cruise deciding at the last minute to stay another night, or driving past the port and taking advantage of "cabins available" signs, or changing their choice of ship at the last minute, or deciding on a whim to go on a cruise that afternoon...
What do (the general) you do if they preassign your room, and the tub from the room upstairs overflows (unnoticed) mere hours before you check in? Now (the general) you would technically have no room; if (the general) you were to be moved, the Guests originally preassigned to the new room would now be stranded, and the problem would mushroom from there...
