If I Wanted To Catch The New Avatar, Star Wars And Toy Story

For many of my co-workers that treat me as the local Disney subject matter expert, I have been telling people to wait until Spring/Summer of 2017. The reason being that at least by then, Disney Springs will have been completed, all of what we currently know for DAK (including Pandora) should be finished, and the new (and upgraded) Soarin' film and Frozen ride in Epcot will be finished. What follows is a list of things (to my knowledge) that are opening and roughly when:

  • 2015 - hub completion and Skipper's Cantina in MK
  • 2016 - DAK Rivers of Light nighttime show in Spring, nighttime safaris (I heard Fall but now some are speculating that it might be earlier)
  • 2016 - There has also been mention of other new entertainment occurring in front of the Tree of Life on Discovery Island which might be happening in 2016, along with potentially the new TS restaurant in back of Pizzafari, as well as new shopping and a new QS in Asia
  • 2016 - Summer should be the completion of the transformation of DTD into Disney Springs, with tons of new restaurants and shopping
  • 2017 - Spring should be the debut of the Pandora expansion in DAK
  • 2018 - Toy Story Land in DHS
  • 2019 - late in the year for Star Wars Land
Just for reference purposes, I get most of my information from wdwmagic. They have a number of forum members there that either know people that work for Disney or work for Disney themselves.

Also, keep in mind that there is supposed to be at least a Phase 3 addition for DHS that could either be a land based on Cars, Monstropolis, or the Incredibles that would debut 2020. Additionally, aside from the $2.8 billion allocated for the total redo of DHS, an additional ~$350 million was approved for additions to MK and EPCOT (and that is $350 million for each park), as well as the rumored Frontier Land expansion. There is still so much that might be happening prior to WDW's 50th anniversary that I have a hard time telling people when they should book their next vacation. I typically say summer of 2017 though, as that is when at least DAK and DS should both be finished.

The important part is in bold

What do you the think?

Honest question
I know you don't trust anyone these days including Disney but the people at wdwmagic have great track records and do know what they are talking about. Many like he said do work for Disney or used to work for Disney and are still involved in ways. I don't see a problem and I don't think there is anything wrong with this kind of thing on a rumors and news board.

Anyone who has real info doesn't release it to web board "insiders". Nobody is better at controlling the info/message than the birthday boy...

So it's more "fan speculation"...which is fine. Sometimes it's based in ideas that do get the green light...sometimes it's "right ballpark, wrong section"...often it's just out there.

It's ok. But eventually it does become clear...this cautionary tale.

I understand your view point. I am the young one here and it may seem like because of that I'll believe anyone that has info or something around those lines. These people have great track records and have been very right with recent things. Wdwmagic is the only place I have found to be like this. Disneyland's version is micechat it is what it is. You believe what you want to and I'll believe what I want to.

I might not have posted on these message boards very much if at all over the past 5+ years, but believe me, I have been following them. I have seen many of your posts so I know where you are coming from (and your reply to my post comes as no surprise :D). All I can say is that this thread is a Disney Rumors and News Thread. The day that the title is changed to a Disney Facts and News Thread, I will no longer leave posts like that one. And trust me, I know that you do have every right to doubt posts like that one, and that is perfectly fine and good.

I have actively followed the wdwmagic threads, specifically their version of a news and rumors thread, for a long time. Out of all the active posters on that site, there are only 5 that I have found are truly reliable for their information, whether they work for Disney or know someone that works for Disney (@rteetz knows which ones I am referring to :-)).

This happens...ohhh...about once every six months.

I don't disagree with really anything you're saying...

However, the semantics are never observed on forums such as this...people say "oh...I know it's just rumors"...
...but they get sucked in and the mouse gets the benefits of False hope/ fervor.

And they SPEND based partly on that. That's the enemy...the dark side of the force. It emboldens the Co. to push the envelope on pricing and do headfakes on what used to be normal capital reinvestment.

Just look what's going on here..."when should I plan my trip to do all these great things?!?!"

...as of now...it looks like we're getting a fairly impressive addition to animal kingdom, two VERY minor alterations in Epcot, a retail complex that has - at last glance - about 15 confirmed tenants (that should be getting more attention than it is), and two very ambiguous projects at studios with no timelines.

Don't worry about the plans, worry about the timelines or lack thereof.

Honestly - if it takes 7 years for these things at studios...the consumer is still gonna be way behind. A $150 ticket to get in to ride the Star Wars sim?

Could be.

This is all for fun...sometimes we get some knowledge out of it. But you have to salt your meats...

Trust only the shovels...and follow the money. Nobody on wdwmagic knows anything about the money...even if wdi sneaks in there - which we all tend to agree is where the semi solid info comes from.

You know how the voice on the end of Star Wars trailer says "...just let it in"?

It's the dark side...DONT LET IT IN

;)

If you look at some of my recent updates more tenants were announced for DIsney Springs. Yes its a retail complex but it always has been that. Yes it had pleasure island but there were still plenty of store there.

I don't see them taking 7 years at the studios for the large projects. 5-6 max.

I may have missed updates on springs...but it's still not too impressive at this point. Remember that it's a now 7 year project as well. The mothballing of PI legitimately started the clock.

And honestly...isn't 5-6 years too long?

It can be done more efficiently...it is being done across town. AND...they built Splash and Tower in 18 months flat back in the day...two of the most elaborate rides/themes ever done by wdi.

The difference? Was that the goal was to GET IT DONE. Now you can't honestly say that with a straight face.

I can remember workers on the briar patch compared to mine train a few years ago...you can tell the difference. And technology makes it EASIER now...such as the computer generated rock work.

Well this will be a phased project like many others Disney does. Universal doesn't do these big park redo type projects (probably because they don't have to) but Toy story first, star wars second, whatever phase three becomes last. So you have new things opening like every year or two.

I'll grant you that it's a bit apples to oranges to lemons.

But...Disney didn't do itself any favors with fantasyland. That was beaten to a pulp

Fantasyland didn't deliver like people had hoped. Just think if Staggs didn't come in and put Mine train back in the plans we'd have more meet and greets instead of more attractions.

You are correct...but I wasn't even talking about expectations.

They had slowly done site work on the old 20K lagoon - which was bigger than the "new fantasyland" is today...for about 10 years prior.

The timeline is unacceptable...frankly. It could have been done soup to nuts in 3 years flat if you were dedicated. They went "one cheek" on this.

They took down toon town...moved dumbo...and...
...reassembled toon town.

With bathrooms.

I agree but there really was no rush to get NFL done. MK wasn't/isn't hurting for attendance. DHS may not be hurting that much yet but we will have to look at this past years totals because from what has been seen they aren't going to be very good at least not rising. I would think DHS has a little bit more urgency than NFL did. From the looks of that first permit work starts in 2016, and then practically every rumors I have seen has work done by 2021.

Then how do you explain the times when these sources have provided accurate information, lucky guesses? You can believe what you like, but I can tell you with 100% confidence that "inside" information does get leaked to web board "insiders", this is not rumor or opinion, this is fact.

I don't doubt that there is real leaks...
I doubt their resistance to the accountants axe.

There's "not enough authority" behind many if not all leaks

Some do come to pass. But you can never take "spirits" word for it. That's how I think it be.

I agree that not all leaks can be taken as fact, but when it comes to WDW leaks, I have found that WdwMagic has the best track record of the forums I have read, and when leaks do occur, the people there are pretty good at vetting them. I am not a big Spirit fan, but I can't deny he has access to good information. Now if you want to ignore all rumors because you might not trust their source, that is fine, but it's definitely a part of the WDW fan community that I and other enjoy.

My point isn't to dismiss all rumors...more to look at them, analyze then...decide if they make sense...
...then wait and see if they happen without relaying them as inferred fact.

That has gone around here a lot lately...since the MGM non-announcement.
I will give credence to Disney when it happens. Like if they start the transportation redo January 2...as they should...then I give a little.

Nobody should give travel advice based on studios unless it's the current state.
Fact until otherwise changed in 3 dimensions. Vertical construction.
