What is the AP discount available to DVC members? I have been told that if I rent points from a DVC member and have a reservation in my name that I can purchase AP's at the DVC discount price. Does anyone know if this is true and what the discount rates are (or direct me to where I can find this?) THanks for the help!

The annual passes at discount are only available to the actual members. I am sorry you were given wrong information.

It's not true. Only the member and family members who have legal addresses at the member address of record can get the discount. We can't even get the discount for our college age son because his drivers license shows another adress (at college).

Sorry, could not help myself when I read this!

Ditto, your name and address (driver's licenses were shown for proof along with the membership card when we bought at Disneyworld) has to match the membership name and address on file for the points. We can't even get the AP discounts for our married children. DVC is very strict on the AP discount.

I know what you mean Scratch. He posted this on another board and I swear I didn't laugh. I just said "No" and and a few other words and then directed him to this board. However, my factual response seemed to have hurt his feelings and he didn't believe me so he did indeed try it again to see if he'd get the same answer. Obvioulsy, he did

Now....I've held it in long enough and I'm tired of playing Ms. Nice guy so here it goes...............

Interesting--I just purchased an AP for my daughter in college, and she showed her driver's license, and still got it....hmmm. :confused3

That is incorrect information. Only MEMBERS can receive the discount. A reservation will not be helpful as you will not have a membership number or a member card.

:sad2: Sounds to me like he did just what you told him. I am a young newlywed with small children and I just learned of DVC last year. I visit this sight often as I am trying to research DVC myself. I thought "who better to ask than owners themselves" but it seems to me that so many threads now are anti renter (which I am). Each time I read slams like this one I take them personally and feel like I am somewhere I shouldn't be. Disney is a great thing! Everyone here has that in common. You don't have to respond if you don't like the question but how could you be so cruel to tell someone where to go ask a question and then laugh when he does.

Because common sense should prevail. If renters could get members benefits, why would anyone buy?

Nope, not anti-renter. I just rented myself a few weeks ago. However, if someone gave me an answer to a question I was satisfied with it and moved on. I didn't feel the need to post the question on 3 different threads so that I could get 50 "no" responses. One is enough for me

From the DVC MEMBER SITE:

Who is eligible to receive the Annual Pass discount?
Disney Vacation Club Members receive a discount on the Pass for themselves and their immediate family residing in the same household only. At the time of purchase or redemption, your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card must be provided and ALL ADULTS must present a valid driver's license or state identification card showing they reside in the same household

Who is defined as "immediate family"?
"Immediate family" is defined by Walt Disney World Resort for discount purposes as noted below: Spouse/Registered Domestic Partner, Parent/Step Parent, Mother-In-Law/Father-In-Law, Child/Step Child, Brother/Stepbrother, Sister/Stepsister, Brother-In-Law/Sister-In-Law, Grandparent, and Grandchild.

Can I use my discount to buy a Pass for someone other than myself or immediate family residing in the same household?
No. This discount is exclusive for Members and may not be transferred. This perk may be revoked in the event of abuse.

Doesn't take long to learn about these doctors, lawyers and such people on the DVC boards.
I always rent points and take FULL ADVANTAGE of the benefits provided to the members for about the price of maintenance fees without the huge upfront costs of buying...that money is better spent on REAL estate.

As the original poster, I have refrained from commenting to you because, frankly, I came here for information, not to get involved in responding to posts such as yours. And, besides, there are a lot of level headed people here who were expressing my own thoughts. HOWEVER, since you have now implied untruthful remarks that involve me, I will most definitely not let you misrepresent me. As a previous poster said, you suggested that I post on this board. You were my first and only reply at that time on the rental board. If you think that internet users should always listen to one reply and believe everything they hear, then you will soon learn differently. So I did as you suggested and posted on the "correct" board. Most especially I am pointing out that I have posted this question TWO times: this thread and the original thread. Your exaggeration and untruthfulness spoke far more negatively about you than it did about my desire to post correctly and get accurate information. Fortunately, although I certainly have reason to question, DIS does obviously have some very good, informative posters who have provided my necessary information without the added commentary that you felt necessary to add. Since you obviously have no positive intention in replying to me, please move to other posters who you feel will benefit from your remarks. My question has been answered. Oh, and I did also learn that my Florida resident rate gives me a nice discount on the annual pass. Thank you for your time.

Where do you rent for $4.25 a point? I'd like to rent there too!

TIA

I think the OP's question has been answered so the thread is closed.

The OPs question has been answered. Renters do not receive the AP discount. This thread is closed.
