Meanwhile I'm still waiting for a BW bus. They loaded two, finally left at 6:40, and no others have come to pick up the rest of us. This is why I'm usually team car.

Same thought as everyone on the expo. It seemed like a bigger disaster than previous years. Our estimated VQ time kept moving so slow. We tried getting food, but even the line for that was apparently an hour.

The 5k was great today! DS did so well. Missed his goal by ~2 minutes. Probably would’ve made it if he didn’t need to stop at the bathroom he was the Pluto that had no answers by the starting line

Can't believe no one has confirmed the presence of cheese in the snack box yet! Well, I can happily confirm that it's in there, although I question the choice of Fritos as the delivery vehicle!

I admit to being mortified by the prospect of this weekend. We trained all year in the SFla heat and humidity only to have my achilles tendinitis flare up in the last few months.

We drove up early from SE Fla yesterday so we could be within 45 miles at 0830 to try and get a VQ slot. Of course, there was a massive crash that closed down the turnpike but we were notified by my wife (who is home and saw it on the news) just in time for us to divert and take a different route. (good omen #1) My daughter managed to get group 62 while we were still on the road.

At nearly the same time, I got a notification that my room at POFQ was ready! At 0830? Unheard of! (good omen #2)
On arrival at the hotel, I found out that our room was on the 3rd floor and with my achilles problems, I knew that was no bueno-- especially after a race! So I asked for a change and they gave me a 1st floor, waterfront, in a preferred building!! (good omen #3).

We go to the expo (what a mess!!!) and see there was a separate line for entry to merch if you had pre-purchased items but they were only letting one person from a group into that line, unless you had a minor with you. We were able to get in that way (still had the huge line inside) but managed to get in/out of all that before our VQ group was even called. (good omen #4)

Lots of good omens, hoping I can stave off the pain long enough to get thru this madness!

Thanks to everyone who recommended I talk to runner relations about corral placement. I was in G for the marathon and after talking to them and showing POT, I was moved to B. It was a process though. That line was tough.

Overall, expo day left me cranky, irritable, hangry, and with tired legs and feet. Expo day should be fun and energizing. They need to figure this out. Waited in lines all day. Was able to get a spot in VQ when it opened at 1, since I was on a plane for the first one. We actually ended up leaving, checking into hotel, did a target run for groceries, and back to expo before our group was called. And can we talk about the food options? Was prepared for no refillable beer mug, but still disappointed it was not there. But why in the heck, do the not have more food options? With being there for hours, people need to eat.

Yeah ESPN zone is basically a food dessert. Especially if you’re not a hot dog/burger person. It’s why I always pack a snack for expo day since I know I won’t be out until early afternoon and that means I need something for lunch

I said the same thing about Fritos and cheese not being a great pair. My box was so light I thought things had to be missing from it, but I think I had everything.

Had a nice run around RIV/CBR complex this morning and picked up a new friend along the way who’s running the marathon too. Super fun running and chatting with her!

Was the reunion area set up, with the new location for the food and snack tent, new for MW? The area seemed so bare this morning with the food tent not really making it enclosed area.

Nothing says “Hey runner, take care of yourself and properly refuel after a race” like Fritos and fake cheese. But I have to say, I have brought home the Bauducco toast and find it works great if I want something on my stomach before a short run. Those fruit chews….I just threw out probably 5 years worth of them since they have never been touched.

Happy to be team car, was showered and in bed by 6:15 for an hour 45 power nap. Had a great 5K! I’ll wait for the actual time to show up in the results but my phone shows me with a half minute PR.

Omg I heard that interview while we were on that back road after starting and it made me laugh so hard. Kids are great.
