Idle speculation about potential DVC perks.

Just pondering ...

Last year, when the WDW powers that be discontinued the early entrance perk (and said that their "wake up call" was that guests wanted more of the characters, hence the Character Caravan ... uh, OK), they took away one of the prime reasons why a guest would want to stay at a Disney resort. I wonder if there was a corresponding drop in reservations at the resorts, as folks, deprived of one of the true values of staying "on campus," decided that perhaps other properties in the area didn't look so bad. I know that there was a dropoff because of post 9/11 jitters, but Disney folks being what Disney folks are, they may have taken heed to guest surveys, comments, etc. So now the "Extra Magic Hour" is back - and I can tell you, after visiting Epcot week before last, folks were taking advantage of that deal! I wonder if there's been a corresponding rise in ressies?

Anyway. Can anyone speculate if the bean counters could do a similar evaluation of the 75,000 DVC members out there (thanks, Doc, for your recon mission news!)? It seems to my untutored little brain that if giving us, say, the same perks as Florida residents receive, some guests might invest a little more in meals, park admissions, souvenirs, etc. You've already got us on property ... now entice us to STAY there, and maybe make a little $ in the process.

I don't know the average number of DVC owners on property on any given day - probably miniscule compared to the whole guest census. But if it would put just $1 back in the Disney coffers to keep some of us around (see Werner's post), then (a plea!) please, Mr. DVC, pretend like we're Florida residents - or something like that. I promise, I'd NEVER, EVER, go to that ol' nasty USF/IOA again, and I'd REPENT for going in the first place.

;)

Gosh. Just think of all the good will that'd generate. Try putting a dollar value on THAT.

I know this has been discussed to death, but I'm hoping just the right person will hear my humble plea...

Interesting. I, too wonder.............

You make a good point. I know if I could receive the Fl resident discount on passes I would be more likely to go for longer stays or more shorter stays each year. The end result is that I would be on site more, eating at their restaurants more often and in general spending more on site. In order ro support my longer, more frequest stays on property I would most likely purchase more points.

That being said, it would appear that the bean counters see me and my family as the exception rather than the rule. Until they can show in some financial report that treating us like Fl residents would add to the bottom line this will not happen.

Personally, I have given up on dreaming that DVD will give DVC members any type of break.

Having said that, I expect nothing from them, and in turn, they receive very little from me. ($)

Or at least I promise to only go on Friday and Saturday when points are way too high at the DVC resorts.;)

I think Doc said it best in another post -- DVC has a challenge in advocating for us with other Disney business units who may not understand the dynamics of our little group. Hopefully that will change over time as we continue to grow.

Who's going to pay for these "perks"?

If DVC is interested in adding value to their program, to sell more SSR points, they'll fund these benefits out of DVC sales. Since we members are already sold, I'm not sure DVC would be terribly motivated to improve our lot, unless SSR sales disappoint.

On the other hand, WDW may be interested in attracting DVC members to the parks, and could fund a discount program. However, given that we DVC'ers are a rare breed, I wouldn't get my hopes up.
