Just pondering ...
Last year, when the WDW powers that be discontinued the early entrance perk (and said that their "wake up call" was that guests wanted more of the characters, hence the Character Caravan ... uh, OK), they took away one of the prime reasons why a guest would want to stay at a Disney resort. I wonder if there was a corresponding drop in reservations at the resorts, as folks, deprived of one of the true values of staying "on campus," decided that perhaps other properties in the area didn't look so bad. I know that there was a dropoff because of post 9/11 jitters, but Disney folks being what Disney folks are, they may have taken heed to guest surveys, comments, etc. So now the "Extra Magic Hour" is back - and I can tell you, after visiting Epcot week before last, folks were taking advantage of that deal! I wonder if there's been a corresponding rise in ressies?
Anyway. Can anyone speculate if the bean counters could do a similar evaluation of the 75,000 DVC members out there (thanks, Doc, for your recon mission news!)? It seems to my untutored little brain that if giving us, say, the same perks as Florida residents receive, some guests might invest a little more in meals, park admissions, souvenirs, etc. You've already got us on property ... now entice us to STAY there, and maybe make a little $ in the process.
I don't know the average number of DVC owners on property on any given day - probably miniscule compared to the whole guest census. But if it would put just $1 back in the Disney coffers to keep some of us around (see Werner's post), then (a plea!) please, Mr. DVC, pretend like we're Florida residents - or something like that. I promise, I'd NEVER, EVER, go to that ol' nasty USF/IOA again, and I'd REPENT for going in the first place.
Gosh. Just think of all the good will that'd generate. Try putting a dollar value on THAT.
I know this has been discussed to death, but I'm hoping just the right person will hear my humble plea...
