I love DW... my mom and dad love DW... I've drug my husband and 4 year old son to DW for the past 2 years (son loves it, husband not as much!). But it's just not enough for me. I WANT MORE! :rotfl2: My husband, son and I just got back in September from a week long trip, and I know we won't be going again for another 1.5 years, and I want to go sooner. While my parents DO love Disney, my father's health is such that he just couldn't go, and since my mother does a lot to care for him, she didn't think she'd ever get to see Disney again. Well, my father's health has improved a bit, to the point that my mom feels like she can take off for a weekend and dad will be ok, so I invited her to go on a mother / daugher trip in January. It will only be for a long weekend (getting there late Thursday evening, spending Friday and Saturday in a park, and going home Sunday afternoon). Dad and husband are ok with this! :thumbsup2

So, I want to make this trip extra special... Mom has been dad's care giver for a long time, and just needs a break. She is super excited about going! We'll be staying at Pop (really only need a place to sleep) and we'll be on the free dining plan, upgrading to DDP. I've got reservations for dinner at Boma, lunch at Le Cellier, and dinner at Coral Reef.... I know it is going to be a crazy, BUSY trip, but since mom may not ever make it back again, I want it to be as special as possible. Anyone have any ideas of how to do that? We'll be doing MK and Epcot... I'd love to order a choc slipper for her, but we won't be at GF or the princess meal. I've thought about both of us doing pick a pearl, and that might be a nice idea... For my son, we did little "Tink presents" everyday... not sure what I'd get mom for that kind of thing.. Ideas?

Anyway, just want some ideas of fun things to make this trip the best ever! I'd make custom T-shirts for us, but she's just not a t-shirt wearing kind of lady. Also, I want something that won't take a lot of time out of our day, since we are already pressed for time with only 2 days and so many dinner reservations.

Thanks all!

My mom and I had tea at the Grand Floridian during our MK park day - it was a nice break from the heat to go inside, relax and enjoy a lovely tea in beautiful, relaxing surroundings.princess:princess: I also bought nice things for the room - facial masque, foot rub, lotion, H2O spa toiletries (we stayed moderate but had the deluxe goodies) and I had ordered a few things from the Disney Store beforehand to make our trip extra special.

Hi! What a wonderful weekend you have planned! I agree with tea at the GF ... great idea, I did it with my DD4, but it would have been equally wonderful as adults. You probably won't want anything but the tea itself, though, being on the dining plan. (In our case, we made our afternoon tea into a "meal", and enjoyed every bite of our breads and sandwiches.)

If you think your mom would wear them, instead of t-shirts, how about matching and/or coordinated Mickey (or anything Disney) earrings?

I thought about you getting professional pics done, but since you have so little time, that seems too time consuming. It probably is better to just get a couple of photopass pics, and perhaps purchase a photo souvenir with one of your favorites. I've ordered the CD in the past, and up my own books separately, but for such a short trip, I don't think you would get enough pics to make it worthwhile, unless you make that a main focus of your visit. JMHO. I'm not sure what is available to purchase in the park photo stores, since I was going the CD route, but they probably have something nice that you could get right there?

Oh, you will have such a great time!

I love the idea of the GF tea, but just not sure we can squeeze it in. On our MK day, we have a 4:55 reservation for Boma, so will be leaving the park early, taking a bus over there for dinner, then coming back. That's already going to take a lot of time from the park...

Some special pampering stuff for the hotel might be nice!! Jewelry was also mentioned, and I'm leaning heavily toward the pick a pearl in japan as a very nice momento of the trip....

Thanks for the ideas! Keep more coming!

my now 26yo dd and i have been going to wdw every may for the past few years.....

our favorite memories are usually those that occur spontaneously: puddle jumping, following ducks, reciting all the words from CoP, going on PoC over and over and over, stopping to watch street performers in all the parks, random photo taking (like my photo essay on feet - lol), all those silly things that moms and daughters relate to on the same, carefree level. we have spent hours, just sitting on benches in wdw, chatting away about all things important and unimportant.

i would book a kona b'fast, one dinner, maybe a segway tour.....and just spend the rest of the time enjoying one another's company. i do like the idea of the pearls if you both will wear them.
it sounds like the two of you are close enough that the less extras you add, the more fun you might have :)

Does she like jewelry?

How about a Disney charm bracelet - matching -for each of you! Start off with the same Disney charm bracelet for both of you, and during your weekend, find a few charms to add to it which can be the same or different charms. This way, when she wears it, she'll always be reminded of the wonderful weekend the two of you had together. If she's not a jewelry wearer - she may still like it for the memories.

I'm taking my mom in November after Thanksgiving for a few days and have been trying to think of something special to do for her as well. I'm sure this won't be her last trip, but it is the only trip that we've taken together without my brothers/sisters and their respective families. A friend suggested the charm bracelet idea and I thought it was a great idea.

Good luck - and have a great time!

Another vote for the GF tea! After years of wanting to do it, my mom and I finally have ADRs for this December and I am SO EXCITED!!!

Other ideas:

One of the shorter tours that peaks both your interests. My mom and I both like "Behind the Seeds" at EPCOT - and I think there is even a shorter one that you can spontaneously sign up for over by the entrance to Sourin'.

Spend some 'girl time' shopping and enjoying the ambiance in World Showcase. My mom and I like to browse the tea shops in England and the perfume shop in France and the clothing/gift shops in China and Japan. We also like to see all the movies at the different countries.

Massage at the GF Spa. It takes away from time at the parks, but talk about pampering.

Take advantage of all the photopass opportunities and make sure you tell them this is a special mom/daughter trip. You might get some fun extras on your photos.

I usually bring a couple of pins for pin trading, and my mom and I both get in on looking at the various pins to trade, and what would be fun to own, etc. Plus, she specifically looks for certain characters for me and I look for specific characters for her. Not really an 'activity', but something we share.

Fantasia Miniature Golf at the Swan & Dolphin is a fun little pit stop, if you have the time.

Lastly, one of my favorite memories is totally unplanned and my not help you, but it was at MK and my mom and I rode the tea cups and it was right around when Wishes was supposed to start. So here we are spinning like mad and giggling like little school girls and all the sudden fireworks are going off all around us and for some reason that moment in time has always stuck with me. I guess maybe the moral of the story is that Disney is the place to be two gitty little girls together and see what happens? Throw all your cares out the window? It's a pretty cool memory, at least.

Have fun! - Carey

At DTD, I found a necklace for my mom that says "Mom" and has a tiny fake diamond mickey head attached to it. Horrible description, I know, but she loves it!

Is your mom going to be in an ECV or walking around? If she's been taking care of your dad, she might not have the stamina to do a lot of walking. Caregiving is hard work, but for many caregivers there's more sitting than anything else. Is she going to need to spend some downtime at the resort? I take care of my mom and sometimes she needs a nap, sometimes she doesn't. When she's had to rest during the day, she's really enjoyed it when we had rooms with a view.

It sounds like you and your mom have been at WDW together before - spend time doing those rides you enjoyed in the past again! Our first trip back, my mom and I spent a lot of time going around doing as much as we could that we had done when I was a child.

Some mothers would appreciate a day at the spa, others just want to enjoy their daughter's company and it doesn't really matter what you do. If you'd rather spend more time in the parks, I'd suggest making your own in-room celebration (much more affordable than ordering through the Disney Florist). You can buy (and make) things ahead of time, mail them to your resort, and set it up yourself.

If she's not into t-shirts, for that time of year, you might appreciate sweatshirts more anyway. :)

Also - make sure you do a character breakfast. You'll be able to easily get pictures of each other (and together) with the characters. If you have favorite characters, those will be pictures you will treasure. I'd also try to do at least one ride with an in-ride picture for the same reason. :)

Yeah - that made me think - my mom really did enjoy the character breakfasts we did and this totally surprised me!:goodvibes

=we played checkers at MK

those are the things I can remember that made our trip fun and full of laughter and joy...

whatever you plan or do the best part is you are doing it with Mom!:cloud9:

ive gone for two years in a row with my mum. we talk about meals, nice TS are a chance to chat and enjoy each other. we also love the characters. she was skeptical the first year but quickly found them to be fun.

take it slow even though you want to be busy. we love main st in MK, the train, parades etc. i dont mind giving up a ride or two for those sorts of things.
you prolly cant get it but one of our most magical moments was dinner at cali grill for wishes. we arent souvenir people so jewlery and matching tees arent for us. anything that is a surprise will be nice, i surprise my mom the first year with remy at chefs de france. it didnt cost anything extra to have that lil rat at our table but she was estatic.
