My Grandson wants a pirate party for his 6th birthday...does anyone have any inexpensive party ideas, games, cake for that age? Thank you!! Barb from Texas

My husband made a treasure chest pinata, we buried gold pieces in the sand box, and had the kids mop the "poop" deck with mops and balloons! I hope this helps!

We did a Pirate themed party for our ds's 3rd Birthday last month. If I believed in reincarnation, I would think he was a pirate in a former life, lol. pirate:

The party was a real hit. You might want to check out the May issue of Parents Magazine. They had instuctions on how to make a pirate-ship birthday cake. You can download the template (with skull & crossbones sail) Here. Unfortunately I could not find a picture of the actual cake w/instructions on their website so I guess you'll have to see if you can find a copy of the may issue (maybe the public library).

Here are some links to a few other cakes:

ETA: Oh yes, check out Party City if you have one near you. Here's a link to their site :

hth!

A friend of ours just had one for her son.......they went to a Long John Silvers and the store gave them tons of pirate shaped hats, whistles shaped like a telescope, and eyepatches---free!! Might want to check them out if you have one close by.

We did pirate party last year and will do pirates of the caribean this year. I too have a pirate lover.

You could do a treasure hunt with 6 y/o's. I also did a craft project where they made pirate hats. It required quite a bit of adult help but I was doing the party for 4 y/o's. I think 6 y/o's could glue sequins, gold trim a little easier. I ordered all of my pirate stuff out of oriental trading. I bought telescopes, pirate bandanas, eye patches, pirate pinata

My sister and I have each hosted Pirate parties for our kids at that age. Some of the games we have had are:
walk the plank- set up a board like a balance beam treasure hunt- make a treasure map and send the kids looing for clues. At the end, hide little trinkets and candy in an small swimming pool filled with shredded paper and have the kids search. We had the kids put all the booty in a "pirates chest" that we divided up into goody bags before they left.
I made a huge Pirate ship out of cardboard boxes from the local appliance store. The kids had a lot of fun sailing in it.

As others have said, check out Family Fun. They have lots of awesome ideas! Have a great party.

We did the pirate theme for my two boys a few years ago using many of the ideas already given here - so much fun! Any kind of scavenger hunt works well with the theme.

Something we did this year for my dd's mermaid party would also be cute with a pirate party - we sent messages in a bottle as invitations. We used water bottles (regular cap/ no sport cap). I added some sand, shells, and green stringy paper (as sea weed),and then we rolled the computer printed invite and tied it with a ribbon (maybe twine for a pirate?) and slipped it in the bottle. People loved getting these, and the really fun part is that you can mail them! We hand delivered the bulk of the invites, but we did mail half a dozen...added about 80 cents in stamps and dropped it in and they arrived just fine (we did weigh first to make certain we had enough postage). For a pirate invite I would crumple the edges and cinge a bit to give it an old look.

Have fun planning your party!
