Ideas for in room breakfast

No problem. It's really easy to make, but since I make it so often I actually prepare my own "mixes" by premeasuring all of the dry ingredients into a large ziploc bag.

2 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp table salt
1 cup fat-free skim milk
2 eggs
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 to 1/2 cup Splenda or sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine wet ingredients and add dry ingredients. Bake in sprayed 8" square pan for 35 minutes.

Wow- this looks GREAT! I can't wait to try it! :thumbsup2

question though- does it have to be regular oatmeal or will the 1-2 minute quick oats work (not the instant stuff, the kind in the canister.)

I packed a large rubbermaid pitcher (to keep crystal light in the room fridge)..so I filled it with various fruits. They didn't get bruised, because the pitcher protected them. I had also packed packages of the large whole grain and cinnamon raisin bagels (from SAM'S club) and a jar of peanut butter. The individual applesauce containers also are great for breakfast. (Just pack them in a plastic bag...just in case) All of this stuff was great to have for the kids....I myself ate fiberone bars everyday for breakfast.

We always make breakfast and quite a few lunches in our room. I have a travel sized kettle that I bring with me, it will hold about 2 cups of water. I'm a tea drinker so I MUST be able to make my tea in the morning and in the afternoon. We will also bring a really cheap toaster ($10)and we usually will leave it there when we leave. We will bring a few dollar store items along to have a mini kitchen. We get a large sharp knife, a cutting mat, ziplocbags (various sizes), plates and plastic cutlery. Again, we don't bring these things home.

grocery list:
instant oatmeal
bagels
english muffins
yogurt
cheese
fruit
cereal
milk
chips or pretzels
cookies
muffins or donuts
sweet & salty granola bars

We also gather a few condiments from the food court, like butter, s&p and jam. Some of the food courts also have cream cheese.

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom, and there was a microwave in the food court. When we originally made our reservations we had a suite booked at ASMU which included a microwave. We then switched to AKL. The CM told me all food courts have a microwave.
We also ate breakfast in our room. We placed an order with Garden Grocer including milk, yogurt, and bananas. We also brought cereal bars and little boxes of cereal. It worked out great eating breakfast in our rooms.
Have a great vacation!

I love those giant blueberry muffins by Otis Spunkmyer. They come 3 in a package at Walmart. On our last trip I also took bananas. We always get the refillable mugs, so we just take everything to the foodcourt and get drinks.

Would you mind sharing the recipe? :flower3:

You read my mind!! :goodvibes

camdensmom, just made your baked oatmeal recipe- TASTY! I actually poured it into mini muffin tins to test out the portability. Worked great, tastes yummy! I like the texture of it versus a bowl of oatmeal. Thanks for sharing!

will your room have a coffee maker? i haven't tried it yet but i saw on the food network show "good eats" that you can make oatmeal with a coffee maker. didn't catch all the details but you could probably google it.

what a great idea! I would have never thought of this one!

Not only do we have breakfast in room but 1 is usually getting out breakfast stuff an eating another is in shower an another might be getting dressed sure makes getting ready go faster.

Part of my job is travelling weekends with a group of high school kids. We stay in a different hotel every time, and although you'd think there would be continental breakfast, there never seems to be. So, we make coffeepot oatmeal all the time. I love it. It really is as simple as running water through and then adding it to the oats, let 'em sit a minute, and it's like you made it at home. I've never noticed the coffee taste coming through. This method also works fabulously for other 'just add water items' like cup 'o noodles, those easy mac cups, and powdered soups.

Can anyone share some ideas for breakfast in the rooms? My boys typically eat oatmeal every day, but there's no microwave!! Other than cereal and yogurt, I can't think of much. Any suggestions to provide a healthy start to our days? I'm sure we can pick things up in the parks, but with the little ones, I'll need to put something in their tummies before we get going, but I also don't always want to take the time to get them to the food court.

I think you must make some provisional arrangements because hotels usually do not have these facilities..

Huh??? :confused3 What facilities? Microwaves? Every hotel I've been at in the last who knows how many years has had a microwave in it, except Disney. ??? I'm confused at your reply...

BUT, the PPs have given me some great ideas, so we'll be fine with the baked oatmeal and hot pot suggestions! :thumbsup2
