We're in the Boca Raton/Ft. Lauderdale area through next week, and DD came down with swimmer's ear (no swimming for a week - yikes!). So, now I'm looking for some ideas for indoor or outdoor-but-non-swimming activities for us to do. The kids are 8 and 11.

We've already been to the Sandoway Nature Center in Delray, and we plan to go to the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Science and the Children's Science Explorium in Boca next week. Oh, and we saw Toy Story 3 yesterday (loved it!).

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Terrific thread, I have a few things to add as well. My MIL used to live in Boca, so we went there every Spring Break for ten years. We found lots to do from the above thread, but here's some more:

I second Gumbo Limbo, which is fun, educational & free, and the Japanese Garden in Delray as well. Remember, the garden is closed on Mondays.

We took the kids to this playground for years, the little Science museum kept them busy too:

Don't forget Boomers where they can play Putt Putt, and lots of other indoor or outdoor activities:

We also enjoyed a few trips to the Palm Beach Zoo, and enjoyed watching it change for the better through the years:

One more fun activity, we did a boat ride on the "canals" of Ft. Lauderdale, gauwking at the million dollar homes. We actually saw one boat that had a helicopter on deck! Most boat companies can be found off Los Olas Blvd.

We also did a ride through the Everglades. I think it was this place, wasn't too far from my MIL:

Hope this gives you something to do! Don't forget, you can always walk around Mizner Park, maybe watch a concert, look at the fountains and have some ice cream!

I would get some silly putty, mold it in her ear like an ear plug and let her swim. It works GREAT. This is what our ENT has us do with DD when she got her ear tubes one summer.

Is Boomers still there? We used to go all the time when we vacationed in Deerfield Beach, just south of Boca.

I might just try that! I got the silicon ear plugs but they just won't stay in for some reason. Maybe I should get some super glue, lol.

It works great-just don't let the eggs sit in the sun, keep them wrapped in a towel or something or the putty gets too soft.

Boomers is still there, the one in north broward and the one in south broward (the one with the go carts and the mini golf and the wooden rollercoaster).

If you want to head to south broward, on US1 and Griffon Rd is Jackson's Ice Cream parlor. That's like one of those special treats kind of places. Really small, really old, and really good.

One of the fun things I like to do for Fourth of July and New Years eve, is drive out Alligator Alley, past I-75 but not to the toll. And park the car on the side of the road on top of one of the bridges. You can see fireworks displays from Miami to West Palm Beach, without having to listen to it.

:thumbsup2 Our friends do that for their son who got tubes too!
