Ida Rain

Seems like it is the hurricane winds and tornadoes that get all of the press. It is actually the intense rains that cause most the damage and resulted in many people losing their lives.

We must live close to you. Spent about 20 mins in the basement because the cone showing the potential path was close to our town. But we didn't get any damage, did you? No wind damage. No flooding (our house sits at 23' above sea level according to flood plain map)
I can't stop thinking about Mulllica Hill. So so sad. The people who lost their homes but also the farms that suffered severe damage. The daughter (Karlie) of a friend of mine from college married into this dairy-farming family. https://www.agweb.com/weather/everything-gone-new-jerseys-largest-dairy-devastated-hurricane-ida
Many of their 1400 cows (those that survived) were scattered all over and needed to be rounded up so they could be milked! It's one thing to lose material possessions but when living things are your livelihood and they suffer too.... I can't imagine the stress. I literally couldn't sleep Thurs night bc of thinking about them.
There's a Go Fund Me page for the farm. Does anyone know if it's ok to post Go Fund Me links here on the DisBoards?

I'm not sure if one can post direct GFM links, but there is one in the story link you posted for that dairy farm/cows.

I believe those interested can search GFM for other local appeals.

I'm between Cherry Hill and Cinnaminson.

Our basement got lots of water through our bilco doors at the back in our laundry room, which was mostly our fault because they're in line to be replaced and we had a heavy duty tarp to put over them and didn't. But my cousins got down there with a shopvac and sucked up as much as they could and then my aunt sucked up the rest with her rug shampooer. Our basement is carpeted, but without a pad and sealed so we're only mildly concerned about mildew. Other than that, we did just fine. We sat behind our bar, which is concrete block behind the wood finish, for 15-20 minutes waiting for the all clear. That was fun with a two-year-old.

Glad to hear your family made out relatively fine.

We're in very nearby town, bordering the river. Friends and family always worry bc we're so close to the Delaware and have tributary creeks near too, but our house sits on fairly high ground.
I had to deal with the other end of the parenting spectrum: trying to convince young adult kids (the invincible age) to join us in the basement! One came down from his attic bedroom AFTER the threat had passed. (eyeroll)
I'm grateful for the technology that allows the local news stations have live, minute by minute coverage and the cell phones to let us know to turn on the TV coverage.

Oh no! I’m so sorry 😔
Oh I’m in great shape. God certainly smiled on our home. It is my brothers and sister to the south of me that my heart cries for. Many lost everything. Even being here at ground zero I can not imagine the stress and anguish of this situation. To make things worse many of the catastrophic losses were in low income communities.

Just found out a young man my daughter graduated with drowned. Went to a bbq yesterday and crazy stories of folks holding onto trees for a while as police tried throwing ropes (my town butts up to the Passaic River with several rivers running through it, lots lost cars and first floors).

Glad you made our ok. My family is from Lafourche (Raceland) although I grew up in Nola.
