I tried to search this but came up empty handed.
Do they ID everyone to purchase alcohol. What if you definitely look over 25?
What ID is needed for a Canadian ? Is an Ontario License with picture enough?
Someone said that the magic bands have your age in them now?

Any first hand experience will be appreciated.

If you are a non-US resident, you will need your passport. This isn't to say that you will be asked for ID 100% of the time, but when you are - and they do ask people who are quite obviously older - your Canadian DL alone won't suffice.

As an alternative, you can bring your Canadian DL along with a photocopy of your passport.

(It's because it's too difficult to ask the CMs to determine the validity of international licenses that they may have never seen a legitimate version of.)

You need an id. They do card at most places.
I've heard that a driver's license isn't enough for non-US citizens, a passport is required...but I'm not 100% positive on that.
Magic bands are in no way an acceptable form of "id". What's to stop someone from changing bands?

If you are carrying a non-US drivers license you will need to produce a passport. I am 30 and I was carded at all but one establishment over the past week.

Magic bands are not checked for age at all. You type in your age and anyone could be wearing your band so that would be a terrible system.

I'm from Toronto and read in the Canadian forum and some other threads here that a photocopy of your passport and a drivers license will be accepted at WDW but only your passport will be accepted anywhere else in Florida. Although I'm wondering if a picture on your phone will work like a photocopy...

It won't. You need a physical photocopy.

Went during F&W last year me and my friend went through kiosks to buy drinks but NOT ONCE did we both have to show ID...heck out of the 5 drink kiosks we went to only 1 time at purchase did they ask for the buyers ID. So just have your passport on you and you should be more than fine!

I am from Winnipeg and I can tell you if you only have your license and you get id'ed they will not serve you. I was the sad one without a drink

A passport or colour photocopy will do.

Are you going with kids? If you look to be in your 20s but have older kids with you (and are clearly their mom), less chance you'll be ID'd.

And how much older than 25 are you? They aren't going to ID people clearly in their 40s or older, really. I have one good friend who will still look 22 when she's 42, but most of us aren't that lucky!

My last 2 visits, I was never ID'd... however, last one (at age 37) I was wearing a 15th anniversary pin b/c DH and I were celebrating our anniversary, although of course we could have been jerks and lied about that. The previous trip to that at age 36, DH also 36, BIL 35 and sister 34 - none of us were ever ID'd. But we had a 1yo, 4yo, 5yo, and 8yo between the 4 of us. We are American, so that part wasn't really an issue in terms of licenses, but we never bothered to carry our licenses anyway. They were always back in the room safe.

OK yes, they technically can ID anyone they want, whether you're a teenager or 85. But Florida says to ID anyone who appears under 30, so if you're in your 40s or beyond, you're *probably* not likely to be ID'd. Obviously we never had a problem in our 30s. But in a previous state we lived that ID'd under 35, even my grey-haired dad in his 60s once got ID'd at a liquor store... b/c they had a previous violation. So anything can happen, obviously. It just doesn't seem likely. If it's important enough to get a drink (which I guess it never was for us), I suppose it might have occurred to us that we should carry ID and others should do the same.

OP asked for first-hand info, and I provided that based on my personal experience of not getting ID'd in my 30s (or my husband, brother-in-law or sister). I can't say that's the standard or what. Next time I won't ad-lib anything else off the cuff...

I'm 35 and the youngest in our group and local so we go all the time. We all get ID'd on the regular. You will need a passport of color photocopy of your passport.

My DD was carded at the Epcot restaurants when she was 32.

I'm asking for a friend she is going for a conference and will be with an work colleague. Thanks for everyone's help. Just a thought, don't you think they would see more Ontario DL then say an Alaskan one? So why would it only be is you aren't American?

It doesn't matter. If they aren't sure the authenticity of a US license they can still refuse it or ask for a second ID. The policy in most STATES (not just a wdw policy) is that a passport is the only valid proof of age if you are not carrying a US issued license. Just like when I go to Italy I have to produce my passport for ID, you're in a foreign country so your provincial ID isn't valid in that country. Passports are the international form of ID. The fact that wdw accepts a color photocopy is actually a huge concession on their part, as anywhere else in florida you have to produce the passport and in some places even a second ID.

Because it is the law.

You must provide the following, verbatim from Florida State Law Statute.

The fact that Disney is accepting a foreign DL and photocopy of Passport is something they are willing to risk, but by law could even refuse that or get in trouble for it.

"... a driver license or an identification card issued by this state or another state of the United States, a passport, or a United States Uniformed Services identification card presented by the buyer or recipient and acted in good faith and in reliance upon the representation and appearance of the buyer or recipient in the belief that the buyer or recipient was 21 years of age or older."

And yes, I have seen foreign guests refused alcohol since they only had their DL with them.

Last June my brother was id'd almost everywhere we went and turned 30 in July. We chuckled about it relentlessly.
Definitely be prepared to show id!
With that being said...we also had lots of time to discuss how they can incorporate this into magic bands. Granted not everyone has a magic band, but, they could verify your documents upon check-in and mark that you're 21+ In your file. They could take a photo to make sure you don't switch bands, or implement via fingerprint. They already finger print you on the way into the park, they could continue to add machines on check-in and when you pay, almost an added security level.
Imo privacy at Disney is non existent -- especially with the magic band. They can track where you are, map where you've been, what attractions you're going on, what you're buying and more. The amount of data they collect is ridiculous. Adding in a 21+ marker can mean that guests can simply be wallet free during their vacation!

That's not allowed by law. The accepted documents for proof of age don't include a bracelet wristband any more than they would if you tattooed a picture of your driver's license on your arm. You have to produce the official document upon request by law - it's not a Disney policy. It is Florida law.

I understand that this will never be implemented, but hey it's a lofty idea and you never know this is Disney!
As I mentioned we had a lot of time on our hands waiting in lines and talked about it...and if you really think about it, it's not much different than producing an id upon entrance to a night club/bar/music festival and being given a wristband to identify those who are over 21. Do you still need to produce Id if asked? Of course. But it does prove that it can be done to some extent!
on the opposite end of the spectrum -- I carried my daughters birth certificate during our trip last year because she's so tall (44" at the time) I didn't want anyone to question why we didn't buy her a ticket since she was still under 3.

Yes they ID everyone. Your mileage may very

I get what you are saying. I know the cruise ships operate under different laws since they are often in international waters but they actually do use your room key as a form of identification. Since your passport information (or birth certificate/photo id) are linked to the card as well as an photo I've never been carded on a cruise. I look younger than 28 and if they followed US law like DCL says they do when aboard then they should probably card me at some point. One bartender told us there is basically no need because they can check from the room keys.
