GUYZ R U MAD,
I mean sure fire is probably better than ice and i know im gonna get stuff back saying stuff like that, but anywayz more than half of the fun on the ride is the near colisions are the best of its common i mean seriously think of dueling dragons without the duel. And even if u still think that it will still be as cool go there when its not dueling it sux. gimme ure opinions on this.
Thanx,
IOAFREAK606

I'm not sure what we're supposed to be mad about?

If you're talking about the temporary closing for maintenance - then NO! You don't want those "near misses" turning into collisions!! Anything mechanical requires maintenance and repair - when could they do this with out closing the ride?

If it's still closed when I go in a week and a half I'll be very DISAPPOINTED - but not mad.

Calling Planet Earth ..... Read current posts first .....

Where did this come from? Ice was back in service when the park re-opened on Monday morning. Total closure time was 5 days. Yes, it's not the same without the duel, but would you rather there be nothing? The Tech Services crew did a incredible job in getting Ice side back in service.

i certanly would rather have any ride closed for any amout of time- if it lenthens the life of the ride. When they did the short rehabs for spiderman- they made it way better! at least i thought
=:bounce: :bounce:

Agreed on short rehabs. Actually, Spidy has never been closed for rehab. All of the improvements have been, and are being made without any downtime. It depends on the type of ride system and the improvements that drive whether or not it requires downtime. It is avoided at all cost whenever possible.

Alright Earl - I had to reply to your last post because I'm laughing so hard! I realize we were both talking about "planned downtimes" - which we both know will probably never happen at the few majors at IOA. But, anyways your quote:

"All the improvements were made, and are being made without any downtimes."

I KNOW you were around early last year when we had both MOOGs and ABs on the track at the same time - plus the RCS was in the process of being changed - and major downtimes (i.e. those blasted gearboxes) just made our jobs that much more "enjoyable!" So yes, the improvements were made - unfortunately with plenty of great downtimes that couldn't have been planned.

Although the end result? One of highest reliability %'s in the park! (and a bunch of Spiderman old-timers who have trouble getting the new folks to understand what the Fall of 1999 really was like!)

I remember when Spider-Man broke down all the time, much like Test Track. Now Test Track has the award for most breakdowns in any Orlando park.

CoasterFev - Yes, what a time it was. What I meant was that the mods were made without closing the ride down for a rehab. There were plenty of downtimes, even some caused by the changes before things got settled down. But the ride opened everyday. And that took a lot to make happen.

And I'm with you on the new folks. They have no idea what it was like. The numbers will continue to rise. More improvements are in the works. In the next few days there will three cars on the ride running the improved show profile, the entire fleet should be done before summer.

As for Test Track, there's a really juicy rumor floating around about that ....

Hey - that's great news on the new show profile. Must be getting the last few bugs worked out if the engineers are confident enough to start adding it to additional RVs.

I think I've heard the same rumor about Test Track. From what I observed and witnessed a few weeks ago when I (ugh) visited Epcot - I really wouldn't be surprised if that rumor was going to turn out to be true.

The only rumor I've heard about Test Track is that Disney is trying to integrate all three lines (single rider, FP, Standy) in the building. It does beat standing out in the heat! :)

Spiderman-

When it would go down for an unspecified amount of time.

When a trackswitch fault meant three hours of downtime.

When people would get stuck underneath the heat area from Doom-great in the winter, lousy in the summer.

Yep, I remember Fall of 99.

But even in the fall of '99, the sun always rose over Ripsaw Falls.

Love,

The Redhats

Hey Gang,
I was at IOA during the time ICE Dragon was out of service. When I went through the queue (What a long walk, whew)I asked the attendant why ICE Dragon was not running. At first I though because the park and ride were slow. There was no line at all. I rode Fire 3 times in a row without waiting. The attendant said IOA is very cautious about rides functioning properly. She went on to say there might be a problem with the lift system for ICE Dragon. We do not take any chances. It did not matter, I still enjoyed the ride.

I've noticed the difference in Spiderman with age. Openeing summer, '99, July. Wait time: 2 hours, constantly moving line.
August of '00, rumors of the system being tamed down because of the breakdowns run pampant through the line as we sata on the floor in the same spot for 1 hour of our three hour long wait. The ride barely moved. And when I was on the ride, it didn't seem to have the same punch to it that it did the first time the summer before.

I look forward to this summer, with FOTL, and riding Spidey as many times as I can.

Barry,

For all the money you have, you think you get closer on a rumor.....

BuZZZZZZZZ.... you are the weakest link, goodbye!

LOL..... Now you can come back....

Sorry, I just had to do it .....................:jester:

I know the rumor...

Test Track Meets Police Videos!

Your car will drive around crazy and cop cars chase you. You can buy a grainy video of your ride at the gift shop. When the ride breaks down, cops will swarm around your car and yell at you to get out.

Ice Dragon was closed last Sat the 5th. They said it would be open on Mon. the 7th. I went again yesterday the 12th and still closed for repair. The pond is still drained and techs were out there looking around. I also would rather they close the ride till it can be repaired properly. We may go back today. I will let you guys know if it is reopened.:)

Ice Dragon was only closed yesterday (5/12) until around 12:30pm - at which time it opened (and remained open) for the rest of the day with a 3-train operation.

The issue Saturday morning was COMPLETELY unrelated to the reason is was closed the week prior. Ice Dragon ran great all last week and, unfortunately, while transferring trains on line early Saturday morning in preparation for the operating day - the techs found a small problem that required that a part be replaced. Unfortunately, it took a few hours to fix.

And today, Sunday, Ice Dragon was working in perfect form! Should have checked back later in the day yesterday!

Ditto on what CoasterFev said. It was not "still" closed and it was repaired properly. Some of us might even resent the implication that something wasn't repaired properly. Nothing at all related, it was an electrical part that failed on Saturday. No big deal......
