Just random questions that popped into my head.

Do any ice cream trucks drive around your neighborhood these days?
Or are they a thing of the past in most areas?
If you have one...does it play music? Ring a bell?

Where I live now, I will see a shaved ice/snow cone truck on occasion. (Well, more accurately, I will hear it because it plays super loud "island" type music.) But I never seen an ice cream truck.

Growing up in Iowa, there was an ice cream truck we'd see once in a while. It just had a bell, no music. And everyone called it "The Ding-Ding Man"...which my west coast husband finds hilarious.

They still do but not just randomly.

Around here there is an ice cream truck, Bussin’ Sweets, that posts a schedule of dates and approximate times on those dates it will be driving through your neighborhood.

The HOA also has many events throughout the year where the same truck or others that specialize in shave ice will be at the pool.

I haven't seen an ice cream truck the entire time that I've lived in my current neighborhood but saw them all the time back when I lived in New Jersey.

Never saw an ice cream truck on my street growing up. Money was tight in the 1960's and a box of six ice cream bars from the store cost less than one bar from a truck.
Lived in my current house 42 years and 30 years ago we might get a truck on the street a couple times a year, but never bought anything for my kids, because they had treats from the store in the freezer. I have heard a truck once this year. Where they seem to spend the most time is parking in parks with lots of kids around. But face it, the reputation of ice cream trucks isn't all that good, for things their drivers do other than sell ice cream.

The ice cream truck comes through here about once a month and it plays music. The shaved ice truck also comes through about once a month.

Ironically the ice cream truck came down our street all the time when our boys and their cousins all lived on the street. Now I haven't seen one in over 25 years.

We still have one come through our neighborhood every now and then. I don't recall seeing (or hearing) it this summer, offhand.

We have a music-playing ice cream truck and a shave ice truck that show up occasionally at the local park.

We have one that comes through about every two weeks. It plays really annoying music in the summer, but I like when it plays Christmas music. This is a screen shot from a video I took on July 20 (I took it through a window, so not the sharpest photo).

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen an ice cream truck this summer. There's a DQ nearby, a newly opened local ice cream shop, a big grocery store and a convenience store within a few blocks of my neighborhood. Plenty of access to ice cream in our area

I’m surprised we still get the truck. We have a Walgreens, a convenience store, a Publix, and a Twistee Treat all clustered around the entrance to our neighborhood, You can walk to any of them and frankly, they are probably all better quality and cheaper price, including the convenience store.

It’s a really occasional thing out here in my part of VA. Yes, it blares Linus and Lucy so loudly.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. Like, usually there would be some, but this year I don't feel like I've heard any.

I heard one then saw it yesterday. We also have a DQ a mile from here.

Some 30 years ago a friend's kid got hit by an ice cream truck. Yes, she was excited and not paying enough attention, but those things can be dangerous. Her parents were on vacation when it happened. They had just landed in England. GMA was holding down the fort at home and called the parents, who of course caught the next plane home. The kid had a broken arm but was otherwise o.k. but needed her mom. It was years before the parents took another foreign vacation.

I hear it coming down an adjacent street now and then. That ice cream truck plays a loop of (I think) "Turkey in the Straw."

I don't have any that drive around my home, but there is one that drives through the small towns surrounding where I live. I don't think it's a regular, scheduled event, but they seem to get out and about a few times a week. I see many complaints online on the various town pages that they drive too fast and need to slow down. Apparently people hear the music and they can't get outside fast enough before the truck is already long gone. :)

We still get them all the time

But they always play music and to my understanding that is when they are out of ice cream so I don’t know why they always drive around then :D

We have a regular one, a Mr. Softie with soft serve, and a fancy one that sends text alerts when they will be in your neighborhood, with sundae’s, milkshakes, pretty much an ice cream parlor on wheels, you order online and they come to your house.

I still see some around, but usually they are to at places like schools, playgrounds, and municipal pools, not just randomly riding up and down streets. As mentioned above, a Mr Softee truck is hitting my daughter’s neighborhood. She has only been there a month, and while helping her with moving, I managed to be there twice when he stopped by.

The ones I notice seem to be playing music, but maybe that’s why I am noticing them!

When I was young a good humor truck came by a couple of times a week in the summer for a few years. It was a summer job for a teacher in a neighboring town.

That was the reason I took the video. I had been telling my sister how fast the truck went down the street and wanted to show her. Our street is a cul de sac, so if anyone wants to buy something at least the truck goes by twice, but it doesn’t waste any time.
