Hi, my name is Pam and yes, I am a chicken! A big ole fat chicken!
My children want me to ride ToT and I just can't bring myself to do it. It all started 2 years ago, when I promised myself I was going to do all the "big" rides even if it killed me. I started off on Goofy's Barnstormer, next tried BTM, then on to Space Mountain. I was feeling pretty good about myself, that is until I faced "SPLASH MOUNTAN". My 8 year old rode it, and afterwards when I asked her, "how was it?" That little liar(haha) looked me in the eyes and said "Oh mom it was the best ride ever!" Well, needless to say I bravely went on the ride. After that first liitle fall in the dark I thought I was going to have a stroke. My 8 year old looked at me and said, "That wasn't nothin, the best is yet to come!" Oh boy, I'm gonna die, I thought. As I plummited down the 1500 feet I just kept saying to myself it's almost over. :earseek: I guess if your going to be dropped 52 feet, hearing Zippadee DooDa isn't a bad way to go.
Anyways I guess the question I'm asking is: Is the ToT the same kind of falling feeling as Splash Mountain? I hate the stomach in the throat feeling. My mom rode it last year and may I add she is a bigger chicken than me (she actually lays eggs). Her lying hubby told her it wasn't nothing to it. He told her you are only dropped once. She said she was dropped 4 times, and when i asked her how far did she drop, she said she went to he** and back. Can anyone ease my mind or is this one I should just chalk up to the one that got away?:scared1:

I rode TofT on a dare from a friend. That was the first, last and only time I will ride that ride.

I decided I don't need to try every ride in the parks.

I used to be afraid of ToT but rode it during my last visit and now its my fave ride!

I say, give it a try :)

Now, I'm not all for going downhill myself, but I LOVE Splash Mountain, and I LOVE Tower of Terror!

Tower of Terror is not the same feeling you get when you go downhill. However, I still think it's something you probably might want to skip. The programming of the ride is such that you don't know how many times you're going to drop.

I tried just so I could say that I did though, and I am ever so glad I did. You may surprise yourself. :)

I think it's a totally different feeling than going over a hill. You don't sit there teetering on the edge waiting to go over (which is my time for hyperventilating!), you just DROP! lol Personally, I think it's a more comfortable feeling, and I used ToT to work up to hill-dropping things, but there are also people who really hate that feeling. My mom is one of them, but she's braved ToT several times. I'd say do it once, be done with it, then you'll know. As far as dropping once vs. dropping four times, in some ways it was a more exciting ride when it only dropped once, because after a bit you just get used to the feeling. Once your stomach has dropped, it's dropped! ;)

It's an amazingly well-done ride, by the way. There IS good reason to go in there.

Hi

I rode ToT in 1999 and vowed that I'd never do it again and I haven't! I also did SM in 1999 for the 1st time and have done it a number of times since. IMHO I wouldn't try ToT if you didn't like the feeling of SM.

I think ToT is far less scary than other "big" rides. If I can't see straight down, it's not as scary to me. On ToT, you can see straight OUT, but not really straight down. And since you know the ride drops, it isn't unexpected. It can't be THAT scary because if you watch the line of people getting on, some are very young kids.

I don't like that 'dropping' feeling either, but I braved TOT for the 2nd time last year and it wasn't bad at all. However, I got the sequence that drops you 3 or 4 times, but each time you were only dropped a little, then back up, back down again, etc....but it was never one HUGE drop. I can tolerate the little drops much easier and I actually enjoyed it that time. But, I have heard there are sequences with much longer drops so I am hesitant to go on it again! I wish they would change the ride so that several elevators were dedicated to a particular drop sequence so I could be guaranteed to get the one that doesn't drop for miles. Then they could have other elevators for those brave, thrill-seeking souls who would get a random sequence. Also, my 6-year-old sometimes-chicken, sometimes-brave DD will be riding for the first time in a few weeks and I wish I could guarantee that she would get the 'chicken' drop sequence - at least the first time!

Don't feel bad not doing ToT. I KNOW I'm not doing it in our future trip. I'm bad with motion sickness (especially drops) and no matter how many people call me a "chicken" I'm not going on it. The price to pay to feel sick all day in a park after one ride is not worth it. You know your own body and what you enjoy.

I hear that you can walk all the way into it but still "back out" right before you get on the ride part where you put on the seatbelts. So you can join everyone to go through the whole intro but still not have to do the drops. Just tell a CM.

Good luck!

I think ToT is a little different cause on Splash Mountain it's just one drop, and you know when it starts and ends. ToT throws you up, and pulls you down, and throws you up, and pulls you down, and throws you up, and pulls you down, and once more for good measure. You never know how far up your going, or how far down your going before you get thrown back up. It's quite tumultuous.

But, I'm crazy, so I enjoy it.

Let me just tell you this I hate drops !!!!!!!
I avoid splash mountain...although I have done it a couple of times.
I find that TOT is much easier. It is a different kind of dropping feeling. The fact that is in the dark kind of makes it easier. You really can't tell how far you are falling and kind of gives you more of a weightless feeling rather than an I'm plummeting to my death feeling.
Give it a shot.

Is there a single soul out there who DOESN'T like SP, but DOES like ToT? If so, then I may actually stand a chance of liking this ride....

I love tot, you definitely feel the dropping sensation( which I like) to me it is not as scarey as a hill drop since you feel it more than see it. you don't see the earth getting closer and it is faster, more swoopy since you go up and down so fast. but if you do not like thrill rides you won't like it (I am guessing) since it is thrilling for sure.

The Tower of Terror scared the cr_p out of me. I love rollercoaster alot, but I have a fear of falling and this ride definitly freaked me out. The only way I will go on this again is when my DD wants me to go with her, and I will do it for her. If you have a fear of falling like me, I say I would pass on it. But if you feel you will regret it, then I would go on it once and see what you think. Good luck with your decision.

:rotfl:

I love your story!!

I can't help much though, because I love all the "big" rides! I hope you try it and like it!

Went on ToT first thing last year. DD 13 was soooooooooooooo excited to ride it so DD 5 decided she had to go too. We tried our best to talk her out of it but nothing doin' she HAD to go too. Needless to say she was traumatized from the get go! She actually ran out from the walkway to my mother yelling "Nana, they made me do it! They made me go!" I can't even begin to describe the looks we got! Mom was smart enough to say "I'll wait for you right here." She didn't feel so bad when DH and I told her how much we hated it too! This is one we are sure to skip in May!

I love thrill rides, there isn't a coaster that I won't go on. I do love TT but is scares :scared1: me right before the first fall (or shooting up, I've had both). There is a brief moment where you can see outside , no mistaking how high up you are.

Something about falling, I think it is the scariest sensation there is. I think your story with your DD is adorable, thanks for sharing. Best wishes on what you decide to do.

I am terrified of heights, just the thought of it causes my palms to sweat - like right now! That being said, I can handle Splash Mountain, even going on it 5 times in a row during an e-night with my daughter, she who will go on any ride - I'm so jealous of people with no fear of heights. I just closed my eyes at the top and I was fine. However, I thought ToT was terrifying, this was back when it dropped straight down. I didn't know what to expect, and they opened the doors at the top and I could look down on the treetops and I just knew what was coming. I started screaming my head off, and held onto that bar for dear life. I just can't bring myself to try it again, although every trip I think about it.

I personally think the drop on Splash Mountain is scarier than the drops on ToT. I think the element of sight has a lot to do with it. On ToT you can't see yourself dropping and sometimes I have to really strain my eyes to see if I'm going up or down. The "height" of the drops on ToT are smaller than the one on Splash Mountain as well. Plus you're strapped in on ToT, but not on Splash where there is the fear of perhaps falling out. I say if you can handle Splash, then you can handle Tot!!

I think the seat belts do have alot to do with it . When we got on Splash Mountain I was thinking to myself "Where are the seat belts?" Then the panic struck when I realized there weren't any! I did RnR and had no problems. I loved BTM and even like Space Mountain. But the first drop in the dark I thought, there was NO WAY I was gonna be able to do the BIG one. It actually took my breath away. My stomach turns just thinking about it now. It won't haunt me if I don't do it, but realizing my 6 yr old nephew is riding it will.
Maybe I'll give it 1 try! :worried:
Thank you for your replies, as always you guys are the BEST!:grouphug:
