I submitted a photo to our local zoo calendar contest and it was chosen for one of the months. It's a small zoo and there's no prize but it still makes me happy. That, combined with my Disney countdown at 3 days, is making for a great day!

This meerkat was inside a zoo "dark house" so I used my 50mm 1.4- f1.4, 1/200 ISO 1250.

congratulations. That would be a good feeling :)

I have entered the Kennel Club Pet Portrait competition this year - I'm not sure when the results are drawn :confused3

It would be lovely to win - even if there is no prize.

I have 7 days until I see the castle again...:goodvibes

Thanks and good luck to you! With the no prize, I figure this contest is going to end up costing me a bit, since I now have multiple relatives that want me to buy them a calendar!

7 days for you- that's exciting, too!

CONGRATULATIONS!

:dance3:

It's a lovely shot!

Thanks :)

and it gave me the thought to check if my zoo has a photo contest - and they do! I have a zoo membership so I think I'm going to have to spend some time shooting the animals at Brookfield Zoo in the next couple of weeks.

Congrats!!!! So how many copies of that calendar will you be purchasing. ;)

That's a great idea- I just love the zoo. This zoo is a small zoo about 5 minutes from my work. The year membership was just $25 so I got one and now if I need to get away, I go for a walk at the zoo on my lunch break and sometimes even meet friends with their kids there at lunch time- with my camera, of course. It's a great break in the middle of the day.

Probably too many! This contest is going to cost me some $$!

You're not monkeying around are you? Well yes, maybe you ARE!

Congratulations and have a magical trip!! pixiedust:

How do you like your Sigma 50mm f/1.4?

I'm thinking of getting either the Sigma version or the Canon version.

I actually have the Canon 50 f/1.4 and am probably going to sell it. I've since bought the Sigma 30 f/1.4 and like it a lot better. Part of it is that with the crop sensor, I find 50 mm to be an awkward distance for my style- I find I'm either too close or not close enough. I'm much more comfortable with the 30 mm. Also, my 50 1.4 always seemed soft- I felt like it was front focusing. I had it looked at by a lens tester and she didn't do anything fancy to test it but looked at it and said that I just didn't know how to use it correctly. Could be, but my Sigma 30mm is tack sharp and I love it. Perhaps with the wider angle, the focal plane is just a little bigger and I'm not missing the focus but...I never really loved that lens.

Anyway, I guess the real test will be next week at WDW- we'll see if I can get anything worthwhile on Peter Pan with the 30mm!

Thanks. I don't know why I thought you said it was a sigma. I'm thinking about renting either the 50mm f/1.4 or a sigma 30mm f/1.4 for my december trip. Please let us know how things went with your 30mm at Disney!

Congrats on the picture, now I can tell everyone I know a real wildlife photographer and their published to. :rotfl: That is a very good picture by the way

I have won a few and let me tell you something..............

No matter if it's your first or hundreth, it still feels incredible! Congratulations! :cool1:
