I went to dollar tree today and got a boat load of things for our trip...lots of glowsticks (thanks to this board!), glowing glasses, bracelets, necklaces, etc. I got some disney chalk (are they aloud to use these at the resorts?). hand sanitizer, disney punch bags, disney stickers...and a few other things. I also went to the disney store today and got some disney dollars, some mickey mouse flip flops for my son ($1.99), a minnie shirt for my daughter, and a chicken little playset ($1.99)
My husband got home from work and I pulled out everthing I got. First thing he said "how much money did you spend?".....he can sure be the vacation crusher! Me and my kids are so excited about this trip, but my husband is not excited at all. Is there a way to get him excited?
I made our final payment to disney today also and I was SO excited about that, knowing I don't have to worry about it anymore, and once again, my husband said..."how much was it?"GRRRR he's always worrying about money. I am a sahm and he works his butt off. I am in charge of all the planning (if I wasn't, it would never get done), and I am in charge of the bills, money, everything (once again, if I didn't do this, it wouldn't get done).
I just don't want my husband ruining this for the rest of us...i hope he don't complain the entire trip! My son is 7 and daughter is 2, so I couldn't imagine traveling alone with the kids. Help me get my husband in "disney" mode!!!!!

Don't worry about it too much. My DH was just like that too...until we went! :teeth:

Now we are currently in the process of planning our 2nd trip, he loved it that much. :woohoo:

Have fun with your planning, it sounds like you'r finding some good stuff (and deals!). Just keep posting here we'll share your excitement with you, and eventually some will rub off on him.

What kind of stickers did you get? We are looking for Toy Story stickers and not having any luck. Thanks. :goodvibes

Toy Story stickers are available at the Disney Store -- they come in a roll of 60 (I believe) and cost $2.50. :)

My husband was the same way the first time that we went. He was saying it was so much money and the kids wouldn't do good away from home. It was like pulling teeth. That was eight years ago. We have gone six times since then. Now he loves it and talks about it more than us. Is he a baseball fan? This was one of the things that sold my husband. I don't know what they have at the time of year that you are going, but my husband and son go to the spring training games. Maybe there are some other games that your husband would enjoy. ESPN is there. That is a great sports themed family friendly restaurant. Maybe you could start thinking of things that he would enjoy and then you could try to sell him on those points.

dollar tree is my favorite................

my have to buy list for vacation is:

I BUY

snacks
crackers
dried bananas
dried pineapple
stick sunblock (it won't spill)

taraprather,

The first time we went to WDW (as a family, and DH's first time, though I'd been several times before) it was really hot/humid and we were on a super tight budget--bottom line, it was an okay trip, but it took me 5 years to convince DH to try it again, this time in November. He LOVED it, and we have had 2 more trips since! :cool1: If finances weren't such a big factor for us, we would definitely be there more often...

Perhaps you could make sure to plan to do something you know he'll like...and you may have to ask him to be sure, especially if you've done all the planning. Maybe a restaurant he'd like, maybe a waterpark,? I was afraid DH would think the Hoop De Doo Revue was too hokey, but he (and all of us!) really enjoyed it--so much so, that he was willing to shell out the bucks to see it again the next year! Maybe you could even do something he'd like off of Disney property, such as the weekend car show at Old Town.

This is Local_Girl's DH. :cool1: Maybe you could share this with your husband. You never know when something might come along and change your life. There is a soldier in Washington state who had his entire family violently ripped from his life (they were murdered) and the only thing he has left are memories of them. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't ever want to be in a position where I look back on my life and say "I wish I had done something more". Sometimes the most meaningful times in your life come from doing something that you really didn't want to do in the first place. Trust me on this one...get involved, let go and have a good time but don't ever make them feel like it was a hassle. You will be blessed later more than you can ever know now.

We both hope you and your family have a great time.

My husband was like that even after we honeymooned there, until we went with kids. My five year old has since been on 3 ten day trips. And we were there a total of 20 days last year with our kids 5 and 2. He just voluntarily helped me pick out all of our ADR's for our January upcoming trip, and he normally does not care about eating out. He is now hooked. My best advice is once there include him in the decision making of what you will do. Don't dictate the entire trip. I think that is why my husband did not enjoy it as much at first. I asked what he wanted to do and we have now incorporated into all trips a day of just hanging by the pool at Wilderness Lodge relaxing a taking it all in. Get your husband on rock n roll roller coaster and tower of terror early in the trip if you can. My husband looks forward to those most. Makes you feel like a kid again. Also, my husband is not a morning person. If we got him up early to hit the parks at opening every day, we would of all been miserable. I decided to get up with the kids, take them to breakfast at WL everyday, and allow him to get up at his own pace. We would come back and get him after breakfast. Make the trip about the entire family enjoying it and not just the kids and I bet he will be a convert. If not, try not to let it get to you and enjoy yourself.

Sorry to ask a question that everyone probably knows, but what are the glow things for? Just so the kids won't ask to buy the ones in the park or for some other reason?

I have never seen any kind of drawings on the sidewalks from chalk or anything else. I think it would probably be frowned upon. Disney takes great care in keeping the grounds of their resorts spotless & I think sidewalk chalk drawings would look like graffiti.

Kids wear them at night for fun. When one kid has them, most all the other kids seeing them want them too. They glow brightly & you can spot anyone wearing one from a pretty good distance.

I bought some before our last trip in March at Dollar Tree and thought the kids would frown on them since they werent bought at WDW.. But they surprised me and loved them.. even my 14 yr old DD and 12 yr old DS.. They are much cheaper than the ones you buy in the parks..

That is why when I buy something for our DCL or WDW trips I just pack them away. He sees them when we enter the stateroom & the Tink gifts are on the bed with the towel animals or when the goodie bags are out for the kids or when we are getting ready to go out & I have the matching outfits/shirts out for us. ;) He now realizes that I get the stuff on sale and end up saving us money because the kids aren't asking for stuff all day in the park or on the ship. He does better if he doesn't see it beforehand though.

Yesterday I saw some really cute Disney placemats at my Dollar Tree. They are very colorful with nice designs. The designs were princesses, Pooh and gang, Mickey and gang, Tinkerbell. I think there was one more but I can't remember what it was.

Don't forget to buy DH a few goodies for the trip too -- maybe a Mickey t-shirt and a ball cap. Once he has the gear, he will be on the team! Also, maybe he can work with the kids on pin trading, or finding penny presses or searching out favorite characters for autographs.

Got these goodies today, and there also were Nemo and Spiderman placemats. Also, at Big Lots got miniflashlights of pooh eeyore tigger simba timone pumba mr. incredible and the bad guy from mr incredible, pooh cars and princess pencils, a tipping tractor from cars, and a dixie cup dispenser of mickey and pluto on a water slide....

My DH was like that when we first went to WDW way back in 1988. We drove thru the night from PA and it was really rather awful. Well when we got to DW and the kids were so happy he got in such a Disney mood and it continues till this day. We are leaving on 8/2 at 6:30 am for our 16th trip. We can afford to fly now. Our children are 22 & 21 and this will likely be our last trip that we will be taking with just the 4 of us. I am happy to say that it is for my DH's 50th bday. This is what he wanted. Things can change once he gets there and the Disney Magic begins.

Yeah, I got him a shirt, and a personalized shirt also (same as me!). I'm still waiting for them to come in. I ordered them from disneyshopping on the 17th. My order still says active...i hope it ships soon!

I just got my personalized Disney shiryt that I ordered on the 4th yesterdau - the 22nd. That should give you an idea of the time. I like it - hoping when I wash it that the edges don't look so obvious from the transfer

oh yeah - I really want to hit Dollar Tree!!!! We have a surprise trip for DD in Sep - it's to enjoy free shopping and celebrating my b-day. I have some things, but I want to get a little something from Mickey for each day.

Thanks for the reminder!
