I WAS THE STEALTH DIS CONER!
I wanted to go to Dis Con when it was first announced, but the timing was off for me. Plus, couldnt take Kara out of school for that length of time. So, I had told myself - next time.
When the event only registration opened back up, I sent in a deposit, still trying to figure out how I would get there.
Finally, my parents said they would keep my daughter. Basically, this was the first time Kara and I have been apart for more than one or two nights in 8 ½ years.
I didnt post that I was coming, but paid off the registration, found a good deal on a room and airfare. I still didnt post anything as if Kara would get sick, I would to cancel at the last moment.
But she didnt, and I was off.
TUESDAY, NOV. 27:
After getting Kara to school for choir practice and making sure that everything she would need for the week was at my parents jumped in the shower and waited for my dad to come get me.
I left Dayton at 11:30 a.m. The airport security wasnt bad at all - had no problems at all. Flew in a puddle jumper plane to Charlotte. Flight was full but it doesnt take much to fill a plane that only sits about 35. Noticed more security in Charlotte, but still no problems. Made my connection with 5 minutes to spare to Orlando. Arrived in Orlando at 3:21 and was at baggage by 3:30. Met up with my Tiffany Town Car Driver (Jack), who said he couldnt help with the luggage as he had to go back to car. I got suitcases and met him at the car. I went back in to wait for TheLionKing (Dave) who was arriving at 3:45 p. m., and he was soon there. We got his bag and met up with Jack.
Had scheduled a grocery stop at the Publix, when we walked in they were giving away wine samples in several aisles, so we started celebrating Dis Con right then and there.
Got checked in at the Dolphin - no one was at the counter and in rooms in a jiffy. I was on the 9th floor at the end - facing the beach area and in the distance could see MGM and the Tower of Terror. I had 2 balconies, with a king size bed.
Had reservations at Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, so took the boat to MGM and got on the Lodge bus there. Walked around the Lodge and out to animal area. Saw some zebras and a few other animals. I would really like to stay here sometime.
Had a few minutes to sit in a rocking chair in the observation area, I think I could have spent the night there.
Soon, it was time for dinner. Wow, it was great. Now, I cant eat any seafood, so trying to figure out what is in some of the dishes was a challenge, but, I did good. Had salad with the mango dressing, prime rib, the lamb quiche, and chicken. The desserts were yummy too.
After dinner, started calling some of the Dis Con folks that were on the resort tour to see where to meet up at. Determined they were headed for the Broadwalk and to meet there.
Ran into a few Disers. From there, we walked the Broadwalk with someone giving me a hard time since I wouldnt tell I was coming.
From there, ending up having some Long Island Ice Teas - a nice peaceful way to end the evening.
