the Brown Derby came up and Kevin mentioned the Cobb Salad and told a brief story about a famous person who went in there one night with a tooth issue and asked for something easy to chew and that was the origin. i got curious and did some research..................the original Brown Derby opened in 1929....in 1937 the Cobb Salad debuted and here is where it gets a little fuzzy.........story number one has Sid Grauman of Graumans Chinese Theater fame coming in after closing and want something lite. Rober Cobb went into the kitchen and threw some ingredients together...story number two is almost the same except Grauman had a tooth ache. story number three does not involve Grauman at all. it is Cobb who has the toothache and the night chef whips up the salad. so Kevins statement is on the money. on a side note Robert Cobb was the owner of the Hollywood Stars, a baseball team in the old Pacific Coast League and was the cousin of.....................you got it...........Ty Cobb.
