I was denied DAS

So just got off video chat. I have dystonia, my muscles will not allow me to stand for longer then 10 min or so. I fall over very easy😂. Even sitting for to long is painful. They told me to request a wheelchair so I can stand or sit while I wait. I’m not upset over the denial I’ve already purchased geni plus. I guess the question is are all the lines big enough to fit a wheelchair ?

Yes, at WDW the vast majority of queues are "mainstreamed" and will allow for a mobility device no larger than 36" wide x 52" long. The few queues that have stairs or otherwise cannot accommodate a mobility device will offer an alternate entrance. DAS is not needed for this.

only 2 lines that I can think of that do not allow wheelchairs. 1 People Mover and 2 the tree house. both in MK

When you say "request a wheelchair" are you thinking they will provide one for you at each attraction? You might be better off bringing your own, or even renting an ECV or a rollator? There are so many places at WDW that don't have seating options on demand, so having a place to sit along with a way to keep your balance might be better for you? How are you at walking 8-10 miles a day?

FYI, our last attempt at navigating an ECV through ROTR was hellish. Lots of snaking through tight turns before we begged for mercy and were brought through a back door to cut off some of the nonsense. Not doing that again.

Also POTC and BTMRR. And Haunted Mansion's extended queue isn't accessible, so they'll sometimes give a return time for that as well. But all three of those do allow wheelchairs as you enter through the exit, whereas PeopleMover and treehouse don't allow them at all.

Which park did you get denied for? DL or DW? I've been reading that DL has been denying DAS to people who really need it.

Pirates and Haunted Mansion queues are both manual wheelchair accessible thru the regular line. Pirates to the point of boarding and Haunted Mansion thru the Stretching Room, then out the ‘Servant’s Door’ to board at the exit.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Jungle Cruise are not accessible thru the regular line, but give wheelchair return times.
Small World has a separate accessible queue, which can be very busy and they may give wheelchair return times.
Treehouse is a treehouse, with narrow, winding steps, so not accessible.
Guests using mobility devices can wait in the Peoplemover line until they reach the steep moving ramp; at that point, it’s ambulatory only.
The rafts to Tom Sawyer island is accessible, but the island itself is not.
Spaceship Earth has a separate waiting area and boards guests from the exit

Really? My first trip on an ECV and I had no problem. You just have to go slow thru all the turns.

Rent an ECV from an off site company. That way you will have it all the time, and not have to worry about Disney being out. Are you going with someone? If so you can trade on and off the scooter so you can walk as needed.

Thanks for all your replies. I have rented a wheelchair and my daughter will push me when I need it, holding on to the chair when walking also helps me with my balance. Last time I used DAS was 2019 and honestly with the fast pass we only had to utilize it once. I was disappointed with the denial but I totally understand. It’s hard to explain but you try so hard not to show your disability, I hate pity💪🏽the das helped me to not have to use the hated wheelchair 😜any more then necessary.

I’m glad you decided to use a mobility device.
There are many attractions where all guests not using a mobility device will be standing for 10 minutes or more as part of the attraction - things like preshow or waiting for a previous ‘batch’ of guests to move on to the next point.
There is a post about those attractions in post 22 on page 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

Because most don’t have places to sit, DAS will not be very helpful for most. The few that have some benches are not reserved for DAS use, so if someone else is sitting already, you would be out of luck. Benches have also been removed in the parks, which is an issue for guests who need to sit, especially if you suddenly need to sit.
Another thing that has changed since 2019 are the waits in line, even the Lightning Lane line.
And, there have been attraction shut downs either because of ride malfunction or temporary power outage.
For example, in June 2021, I did early entry by myself to AK and got into the river ride at Pandora with a 20 minute posted wait. The power flicked out for a few seconds, which caused them to need to reset the computers. A lot of people got out of line, but I stayed since I was alone without our family’s DAS user who has trouble with lines. By the time I boarded, I had been in line for over 1 hour.

also remember if the wheelchair is not enough you can go to guest services and explain why it is not working and you might be able to get the DAS even if turned down before

I would add to that, Space Mountain’s standby queue has stairs so they will also give you a return time to use the LL.

Be very clear on how long you can stand. At ROR the first time we rode it was very frustrating for my mother because they said it was a few steps and she had to stand for 10 plus minutes, none of us enjoyed the ride b/c she was so uncomfortable and we were worried about her. If you need to sit as long as possible tell them that. We did not have DAS when we started the trip but a casual conversation about something else with guest services, ended up with them suggesting it to us

Get some gloves for the person pushing the chair. After a while your hands will hurt and they will help.

They do try to take your mobility device away early on Rise. They took my scooter away in the big room (trying to be vague here to avoid spoilers) and I ended up having to walk and stand quite a bit before we were finally seated … over 10 minutes for sure. It was okay for me, but I don’t think it would be okay for others.

The second time we rode it we were very clear that she needed her wheelchair past the big room and we took it much further but we weren't happy about how it was handled at all, but as it was our first time needing any kind of assistance and it was a learning curve for sure.
