I just need to share this with someone......

My Mom is the sole caregiver to my mentally and physically challenged Aunt. My mom took a very needed vacation to a church convention. However, before she left, my Aunt was admitted to the hospital. We (her kids and my Dad) encouraged her to still go, knowing my Aunt would be taken care of in the hospital. Needless to say, my Aunt was not happy!!!

As promised, I picked my aunt up at the hospital yesterday afternoon. She was upset...she cried, yelled at the nurses and me. To get the full picture here you need to understand that my Aunt is no more than 5' and weighs over 250!! She was very little movement in her legs..... I have a Honda Odyssey!! I got my work out in the parking lot of the hospital.... pushing, pulling, lifting. It was hot yesterday. I was sweating in places where no one should sweat. I have no idea how my Mom does it!! The whole time my Aunt is yelling. Now...during this process, my 7 year old daughter says.."Ah, Mom..your thing popped out!" Not sure what 'thing' she was referring to, I look myself over. Sure enough, my breast prosthesis had moved itself out of its protected pocket. Did I mention that two male nurses were helping?

Well, I finally got myself composed; my aunt in the front seat of my van when we realized the seat buckle would not go around her!! After much discussion on how bad my van was...I convinced her, I would drive very slow and be careful. She only lived 2 1/2 miles from the hospital. And slow it was. She would not let me get above 25mph!!! I had to keep pulling over to let cars go by.
We got her home, she had calmed a great deal.

Here comes the good part…

An hour later, my daughter and I where on our way home. As we drove by the ice cream shop, I pulled in. "We deserve!" I told my daughter. We stood in line debating what flavor of Ben & Jerry's I was going to get. I knew I shouldn't have the ice cream, but I kept thinking I REALLY deserved it. We get to the window and my daughter orders a soft serve twist..... oohh, that sounded good!! The girl behind the counter asked what I would like..and before I could stop myself, I said 'ice coffee with cream, please.'!!

I am so proud of myself!!..I know this is long, but I also needed to vent before my mom gets home---I don't want her to feel guilty...thanks for listening......twk

Wow, were you challenged! I had just posted about a challenge I had last night, but it was really just a temptation, you were really challenged! Congratulations to you on not getting that ice cream!

You are a good daughter and a good niece, and even though she didn't say it, I am sure your Aunt apprecieates what you did for her! Your Mom sounds like she is on a much deserved vacation, hope she has a great time!

Way to go, TWK! I don't know if I could have resisted under those circumstances. I would have probably had the biggest gooiest ice cream thingie they had. You did GOOD!

Great job resisting that ice cream. It sounds like you had a really challenging day! I am sure your mom appreciated your help.

WOW!!!

You went through all that (bless you!) and you STILL gave up ice cream for an iced coffee? WOO-HOO!!!

Good for you! You really are a great daughter and a wonderful niece. Good for you for being so kindhearted. And good for you for NOT *rewarding* yourself for a stress filled afternoon with some ice cream. Now I know it's not easy to stare Ben and Jerry in the face and order an iced coffee, so you did a terrific job!!!

Woo-hoo!!!! The reward will come later when you are slim and trim and feeling so super duper healthy and you can eat a teeny bit of Ben and Jerrys and know it will just burn right off ya!

TWK....You did reward yourself...do you realize that???? By passing on that ice cream...you gave yourself NO headache today...no gulit..no needless carbs!!! You should feel awesome about yourself...you took care of your MOM, your Aunt, Your daughter and Yourself!!!! Oprah would be proud of you and so am I!!!

PS... I know its not funny to wear a prothesis....but I did laugh when your daughter said "it popped out". Sorry I was not laughing at you...if you knew my crazy stories...you would understand...I hope it wasn't too embarssing!!

No..it is funny! Please...I would rather have a prosthesis and a life, then risk it and not be here. Yes, there are times that I get down living in this MTV world, but my husband is cool (loving, dear, awesome). At the time plastic surgery was not an option. ....anyways...got carried away.

I too have had a million funny, embarrassing things happen to me. I like to laugh, so I think this is God's way of rewarding me!! When my daughter alerted me to my situation, I went behind the van and adjusted myself. When I returned the younger nurse was red and looking away, the older gentleman (mid-50's) just smiled. I replied.."Slippery little devil". He cracked up.

Thanks...twk;)

Oh, TWK, thanks for sharing that story. I'm still laughing about the "slippery little devil."

You were really strong to not succumb to Ben and Jerry's after your adventure! (Although I do think you earned some exercise credits points after wrestling Auntie into the Odyssey!:p )

I hope your mom's convention gives her a wonderful physical and mental break from her responsibilities. Sounds like you know how to have fun while rolling with the punches!

Omg, I am sorry, but I can't help but laugh at that comment!!:p:p

What a huge accomplishment for you!! Ben and Jerry's is so good, I don't think I would have been able to contain myself to just Ice Coffee!! Good for you!! :)

You were challenged, but you were a blessing to your aunt and to your mom too so that she could get her well deserved time away.

Bless YOU twk! And Congratulations for overcoming a great temptation at Ben and Jerry's! You really are to be commended!
