"I Want to walk where Walt walked." WDW Nut makes a Pilgrimage-TR Wrap-Up 5/14

Since we started the day by going to the right, we made the obvious decision to go to the left to see what we found.
We went into an art store and managed to wind up in the back of the Animation experiences...whoops! I always manage to go through the exit in this area at WDW too. I swear I don't do it on purpose! (Ok, maybe at WDW I do so I don't have to listen to the silly pre-show, but I definitely didn't mean to at DCA!)
The next animation class was starting in 10 minutes, so hung around for the start. What a neat area it's in! Of course I didn't take any photos, but I loved seeing the different scenes from the movies up on the wall. I might have danced a bit to the music. I might have embarrassed my boyfriend
Pretty soon the show was starting, and we discovered that we were going to learn to draw Pluto! 
We did the class at WDW back in October, and it's now on the list of favorites, so I was happy to see that DLR had it too! Prior to learning how to draw Pluto, they showed us a promo for Toy Story 3! 
After we left we also checked out the area where you can add your voice to a Disney scene. Talk about hilarious!
I have to comment on how nicely themed that entire area was...so cool! We skipped on Turtle Talk, but that's back in that area too.
Here are our pictures of Pluto...first mine, where I drew Pluto's head too big and it looks like he has a tumor:

And my boyfriend's, which turned out a lot better!
After we left, we ran into the theater that housed the Aladdin show and took notes on when the shows were:
We turned and walked around to the left where a small stage was set up. A bunch of people were sitting down, which is when we noticed the show times...
Horray! We were just in time for the first show! Of course we had no idea what we were about to watch, but we went with it. It's a cute little show about the "animators" drawing characters...then *SPOILER ALERT* the characters come to life! It was adorable.
When it was over, we high-tailed it to the Monsters Inc ride that was behind us:
Such a cute ride! I really love the rides that tell stories like that. Disney does them so well!
Next up was Muppets. I know. This is a very old show and I do it almost every time I'm at HS, but c'mon, it's hysterical. My favorite is Sam Eagle, "Stopping in the middle of the theater is distinctly unpatriotic!"
If only people listened... 
I think if I had to chose, I'd pick the one in WDW. I think the waiting area has more hidden jokes than what I noticed in DCA.
When we were done it was about 11:45, and the Aladdin show was starting at 12:10, so we backtracked over to the show. Oh. M. Gee. It was so crowded! When people say to get there early, they're not kidding around. Over 20 minutes before the show starts and we wind up in the line for the very top section.
We were actually concerned about getting in...that theater really packs them in!! I was also impressed with how quickly they got the theater filled.
...So, was it worth the crowded theater? In a word: yes. It was an awesome show, I'm so glad we didn't skip it because the crowd looked daunting! Whatever they decide to replace it with has to be a good show, because Aladdin was awesome!
About this time we were feeling a rumbly in our tumblies, so it was time for some lunch. We had already picked out Pacific Warf since I heard such great things about it. So we started wandering towards it. First picking up a FP for ToT later and meandering through Bugs Land.
Bugs Land is adorable!
When we got to Pacific Warf, the line was out the door. It was crazy busy, and we honestly weren't crazy about the menu. So we went back over to the place next to Soarin'. We had checked out the menu earlier in the day and it looked pretty decent:
...and the line here? Also out the door. I was amazed at how crowded the Counter Service places were. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't get me wrong, they're crowded in WDW, but here they were slow and I started feeling a little claustrophobic! I really wasn't crazy about them in general. (I'll delve more into my feelings about DLR food at the end of the Trip Report, promise!)
We wound up with a BBQ chicken sandwich for me and my boyfriend had the fried chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo. I got mine with onion rings instead of fries. They were good, but not great. Fit the need certainly.
After lunch we wandered some more, stopping to get our picture taken:
And then it was over to Tower of Terror. My boyfriend hates drops and refuses to do this ride. I was on my own.
Of course, I had a FP and have no problems doing it on my own, so I happily skipped into the line. We were in line to be worked into an elevator line up when a CM popped out one door and said to the CM working the line, "we have a problem." I couldn't hear them, but it got around through the line that someone threw up in the car...oops! So they had us move to the next available elevator. Not a big deal, but it meant I was in there (sans cell) longer than expected. And the little girl next to me was worried she'd have to sit in it.
Which made me laugh.
In any case, we eventually got on the ride. I was pretty anxious because I knew that in this version, the elevator doesn't move except to go up and down. In WDW, it's fitted into a different shaft. This meant that during the entire ride, I was at any moment prepared to start dropping! Of course, this added to the suspense and made me really like the ride! I think if I were to do it again though, WDW would win...though I loved the ghost effect, it was neat!
We decided to take off from DCA for the day. First though, I grabbed a frozen apple juice from a place in Bugs Land. It was so tasty! I loved it! I want those at WDW!!! We used the entrance into the GCH since we wanted to try taking the monorail...of course, walking through the GCH put us walking right past Napa Rose. My boyfriend said, "let's check out the menu." And 5 minutes later we were on the phone with Disney Dining to make a reservation We wanted to do it Friday or Saturday, but the times they had were after 8 and we were worried that we wouldn't last that long with the time change! So we took a 630 that evening! Yes, we're crazy. A good crazy though!
Next stop: monorail!
Once in Tomorrowland, we promptly made our way out of the parks and back to the hotel for a rest. But hey...we got to ride the monorail!

The best CS is closed while they are building the Little Mermaid attraction, but the Corn Dog Palace is my favorite, then the soup in the bread bowls. Worth the wait and the line moves much faster than Taste Pilots Grill.

At one point today, my car thermometer read "91." No kidding. In April. In Rochester. Needless to say, I won't be on the computer very much this weekend
Oh, and I was going to start my PTR for WDW in October, but I can't come up with a good name
The themeing in Bugsland is done so well. I didn't even realize this until just now, but everything is overgrown. It's like you're the size of a bug!
Obviously I'm quick on the uptake. 
I think the problem was with how hot it was, we just weren't feeling soup. Oh well. Our sandwiches were fine, just nothing to write home about. And I do like toppings bars, that way I can put what I want on my sandwich!
I was doing really well with Pluto until I drew the circle for his head. It apparently wasn't supposed to be that big
Muppets is so cute. I'm sure your kiddos would love it! And there's a lot of jokes in the waiting area, it's fun to see if you get the reference to some. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a dated 3D movie, but it's classic! And my favorite line from any Disney ride comes from it! ...make that lines... "It's a salute to all nations, but mostly America." I think maybe I just really like Sam Eagle!! (Ummm, Go Eagles! )

Your Pluto looks great!!
The Muppets pre-show (not so much the actual show itself) is one of my favorite things in all of Disney! I never get tired of it! I love the 2 Sam Eagle lines you mentioned, but my all time favorite is this:
Sam: Will you stop this foolishness?

After relaxing and sprucing ourselves up, we headed back over to the Grand Californian Hotel for dinner, at Napa Rose!
I was so happy we were going to try the creme de la creme of Disneyland! Shortly after checking in we were shown to our table. For the record, we weren't planning on this dinner, so we didn't have anything besides jeans with us. I was concerned about dress code (I know at the signature restaurants in WDW, it's more of a business casual dress code) so we checked with Guest Services at the GCH and they assured us that we'd be fine in jeans. Sure enough, while some people were business casual, we certainly weren't underdressed. I had on a nicer top and a pair of good jean capris, my boyfriend had his jeans (no holes) and a polo shirt.
I started by taking pictures of the menu:
We decided with what we were ordering, we would split a bottle of Riesling. I knew that every waiter had been through sommelier training, so we left it up to our waiter to suggest which to order. ...When we're around home, NY State makes a great Riesling, so we tend to order NY State wines, restaurants outside of NY State generally don't have NY State wines, so we were at a bit of a loss. He recommended a moderate-to-low priced wine, which I liked that he didn't immediately go to the high end.
We started by ordering an App: Pappardelle Pasta - tossed in Arugula Pesto, Roasted Veal Loin, Sauteed Coastal Mushrooms, and Dried Local Cherries. $17 (Descriptions from All Ears.) Of course I forgot to take a picture of it. But seriously? This was to die for. All the flavors were so earthy and delicious!
I ordered the Mushroom Ravioli:
Portobello Mushroom Ravioli - in Sauteed Truffled Sage Brown Butter, Winter Vegetables and Parmigiano-Reggiano. $32
This was soooo good. I'm someone who a year or so ago would have ordered the steak and left it at that. I didn't really branch out. We both made it a point to not order steak! Mine had cauliflower on it. I never knew I liked cauliflower
My boyfriend ordered the duck:
Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breast - with Marinated Juniper Berries, Fire Roasted Chestnuts, Pancetta, Salsify and Blood Orange Jus. $38
He discovered he loved duck on the Cruise, so decided to order it again. He loved it, I mean, nothing was left on his plate! I had a bite of it too...amazing!
Of course, we weren't going anywhere without dessert! Menu:
We decided to split the Chocolate Truffle Cake:
Ahhhh...this was heaven
I'm not sure words would do it justice.
My boyfriend decided to have a glass of port with dessert. Again, we left it to our waiter to help decide. Once again, he asked questions and then picked a moderately priced one. Two thumbs up. All in all, fabulous service, even better food! I'm so happy we decided to go!!
Afterward we sauntered back toward DL so we could catch the fireworks (and check it off my list.) We had not quite an hour to kill before the fireworks started. We grabbed a picture (it's ok, I purchased this one for home!) from one of the few Photopass people we saw during the trip!
And didn't stray to far from Main Street. We found a spot about half way down Main Street looking at the Castle.

I don't have any pictures of the fireworks since I a) wanted to just enjoy them and b) my hands are too shaky to get a good nighttime shot without a tripod.
I have to say, I loved Disneyland's fireworks...so much so I found the music on a CD! I also would venture to say they're better than Wishes at the MK!
I know, it's true though. There's something about being in the "original" and hearing Walt's words come over the speakers...I teared up, and I'm not a crier! 
Plus, the timing between the music and the fireworks was perfect. I can't even express what a great night we had between dinner and the fireworks. We headed out and hit the hay! Another day tomorrow!!

Thanks for sharing your Napa Rose experience. I LOVE that place! I know the menu will be different, but I'm going for my birthday night in a few weeks. Every time I go there I keep thinking I'll try something from each of the different sections of the menu. Squinting and using my glasses I read every bit of the menu and I still would have gone with the Vintner's Table if I'd been there that night! Guess I'm a creature of habit!

There were two ladies next to us that went with the Vintner's Table. It looked amazing! They had so much food! It was funny, they had the wine pairing and then had a bottle of Dom Perignon (side note: I'm really impressed that I spelled that right on the first try!) so they were feeling good by the end. Between how much they had plus our bottle of wine...we made friends!
We didn't go for the Vintner's Table since this was spur of the moment, didn't want to cheap out on it, but since it wasn't planned, we didn't want to over-spend either. I would love the try the Vintner's Table sometime...it did get my boyfriend to agree to Victoria & Alberts for our October trip though

I just heard there was another Earthquake out in SoCal...I hope everyone is okay! Apparently they have DLR basically shut down!!

The earthquake epicenter was in Mexicali. It is pretty scary. I guess people are trapped in an elevator at the DLH. I am glad we aren't there. Can you just imagine the fear.

I can't even begin to think! I mean, I'm sure it's bad enough to get stuck in an elevator (I never have...knock on wood!) but right after it shakes like that? It would really frighten me!

That's my thought. And usually if people are at the DLH they from out of the area so they aren't used to the earthquakes. Not that you ever really get used to earthquakes.

I could die a happy woman if I never experienced an earthquake!

I just heard there was another Earthquake out in SoCal...I hope everyone is okay! Apparently they have DLR basically shut down!!
South of the border, but yeah I felt it! At first I thought my Vertigo was having a relapse.
Then was the furniture started swaying I realized what it was. They just showed a "tweet pic" of Main Street on TV News and people are streaming out of there, all the rides were shut down as soon as it hit. They have to check everything when something like this happens.We usually split the Vintner's table between the two of us, we sit at the Chef's Counter and since Chef Sutton sort of knows me from the cooking school, he's always really nice to us (he's probably nice to everyone) and gives us little extras too.
I would love the try the Vintner's Table sometime...it did get my boyfriend to agree to Victoria & Alberts for our October trip though
