I want this flight attendant for my next flight.

It's really great that in addition to getting paid for your actual work, you also get to benefit from getting to and from work.
Sorry, I am away 4 days a week and part of the pay for being away is being able to keep the miles while being away. Are you willing to trade 4 days a week from your family? I happen to love my clients and my job and while I sometimes hate the travel I also realize that the time away gives me some AMAZING quality time in cities far and wide.

For every person who makes snarky remarks about me getting to keep my miles generally when I list out how long I am away quickly eats their words. I EARN THOSE MILES, regardless if the clients pay for the ticket.

Stumbled across this thread and thought I would say thank you to all for their kind words for me and my fellow SW Stews. We try hard to make everyone's flight enjoyable. Oh and let me mention SWA is one of the top 5 companies to work for in the world according to Fortune. You all help us continually be recognized as the best at what we do. :worship:

Thank you for all that you do on all of my flights! Y'all certainly make them more enjoyable :goodvibes

According to this Fortune list you didn't even make the top 100. Edited to add, my firm made the list ;)

Umm didn't it become deragatory about 15 years ago to call flight attendants "Stewardess" or "Steward." I can't imagine a current FA calling themselves by this term. :confused3

Maybe he was thinking of Forbes...according to a Forbes article, Southwest was the #2 best company to work for in 2011 and was #1 in 2010.

Where's your company? If they even managed to make the list, I'm sure it's in spite of people like yourself, rather than because of anything you may have contributed.

Please do quote with article link by Forbes that lists SWA as #2.

According to my research Forbes doesn't publish a list of "Best Places to Work" and if the OP was mistaken and was thinking Fortune magazine then my original link stand true which states that SWA didn't even make the top 100.

As stated previously, my firm has made EVERY list that I can find the makes these 100/50 "Best Places" lists.

Oh man....this thread is going places no man needs to go. Where the heck is bavaria when we need her??? I seriously doubt there is anyone here who can compete with her when it comes to time in the sky...or time away from home. Bat signal is up and glowing.........:thumbsup2

In any case.....why someone has a particular job, and what sacrifices they make is neither here nor there in this discussion. We make choices. You make a choice to give up time away from family..that's your choice. Has no bearing on how FAs need to do their jobs. If you don't care for a particular airline, then don't fly with them...pretty simple. SW is not the only airline out there. They must be doing something right though....tons of people fly with them. Even people who can well afford to fly more upscale airlines. It's all about choices.

So, either keep this thread on track or it's done.

Thank you for all you do to make our flights more enjoyable. DW and I are loyal SW fans and always will be. Got any extra drink coupons lying around you can send me? :rolleyes1

Personally I am done with this. The OP posted something of interest to most of us, I am sure not to start an "I am better than you" debate.
I simply have to remember NOT to start a battle of wits with the totally unarmed and to remember that arguing with a fool is stupid, they bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
Most of us here are certainly better than that. :)

OP here.

Yes, I put this on here so we could have something fun to enjoy and talk about. And with the exception of one individual (whom I put on my ignore list to ignore the debate) we all seem to enjoy when FA's do this. I never thought something like this would turn into a heated debate. I've seen several other videos on the internet showing FA's from airlines (other than SWA) trying to hype up the announcements. Thank you all for chiming in and letting me know how much you enjoyed the video, and for sharing how you like when FA's do this. goofy4tink has already warned us. So please, let's stay on topic and keep this fun. :goodvibes

:confused3 It's really great that you get to benefit from commuting to and from work. I mean, my dad didn't, but then flying was expensive back then so he drove everywhere. He was gone five days a week, two or three weeks a month the entire time we were growing up. Much of that time was spent driving, though.

But that wasn't my point. When you accept (or remain in) a position that includes a great deal of travel away from home, whether or not you have a spouse/children, it's disingenuous to try to justify the actual travel as hard work.

Let's just agree to disagree. Most of the people in my field are well compensated cosultants and part of the pay is miles/points. It is laid out in our offer letters that miles/points accumulated while traveling are the property of the person traveling.

I am sorry that you believe that I am not deserving of this compensation, but the only person that really matters is my employer. If my employer were to take away this form of compensation I would expect a significant increase in pay, probably close to $50K to compensate for the loss of miles or would quit for one of the many easy 9-5 jobs that is presented to me by clients. I have learned to maximize the value of the mile, much like many of the DIS folks have learned to maximize the most of Disney vacation. My company values my contributions to clients and believes that my miles are my property and gladly give them to me.

Travel may not seem like hard work to you, it is significant time away from family and friends. Just because I am not hauling bricks across the desert, doesn't mean it isn't hard work. Also realize that my employer expects me to work during travel hours. I work on presentations and spreadsheet during the offline flying hours, hence why it is in there interest to have me fly in an enviroment condusive to working.

Consulting is all about the billable hours. I don't just sit around snoozing and lounging. If I were to board an SWA flight and ended up in a middle flight with somoene reclining into me for the next 3 hours then I can bill zero hours, but let's say I book a United flight with Economny Plus. I will be able to work for at least 2 hours (subtract 15 minutes on each end plus a hefty cushion for getting to cruising altitude.) My United flight was $200 more than the SWA flight, but since my company was able to bill 2 hours of my time (lwon't even take into consideration any billable time in the United Club) which is billed to the client at a discounted rate of $300 per hour there is still a net benefit of $400 to the firm since I am billing the client $600 (2 hours * $300) verses had I taken the SWA flight for $200 cheaper. Had I taken the SWA flight all I would have done was sleep because there was no room to work.

I asked that this be kept on track...it wasn't.
