I took the Plunge, switched to DirecTV.

Well, I did it. The guy is at our house with my DH installing DirecTV. We are getting 4 rooms, HD Service, and a DVR. Once the promotions run out, I should be saving about $30 a month over the comparable service from our cable company. I hope we made the right decision, as I was happy with our cable, but couldn't handle the prices anymore. On Feb. 1 our cable bill was set to increase over $15 a month! I will miss OnDemand, but hopefully the savings will make up for it! Anyone else take the plunge?

Your DVR will make up for the On Demand. I love my DirecTv and wouldnt go back to cable for anything. Or at least until Verizon runs FIOS down my street and offers TV/Telephone/Internet service.

DH is READY...and I'm just not sure yet. Right now, it seems like satellite is about $10 more a month for us, but the quality is better (HD).

I do know that I am sick to death of our cable company...and I think as soon as someone else upgrades their internet access stuff (I'm no techie ) we'll be switching...

We switched to Dish Network a year and a half ago, and I love it. Didn't think we needed the DVR, but so glad I got it anyway. Love that thing!!

Now, I am totally ticked off that I can't get the Lifetime Network anymore though!

You will LOVE LOVE LOVE DirectTV!!! We have had ours for years and have never had any problems. You will love the DVR-Tivo it is the only way to watch TV IMO!

the ONLY time I dislike directv...is when there is a storm out.
SOMETIMES we lose our satellite signal.
one day, I stayed home from work due to a horrifc snow storm - no tv all day...the dish was buried! dh had to go on the room and clean it off (or, rather, hit it a few times with a broom until the snow fell off)

i've set up a season pass for CSI on Spike network...so basically I always have something to watch on the DVR!

We love love love our DirecTV!! I don't know what the channel would be by you, but 253 is Lifetime Movie Network by me and I love that channel. It has all of the Lifetime movies, but there aren't commercials every 10 minutes. The commericals normally run every 20 to 30 minutes. Love it!!!!

I am the opposite. I just went back to cable a few months ago. I had Direc TV, when I had my roof redone, the guys must have moved my dish a little bit, so I had a weak signale and would lose my picture during normal rain. When I called to get it fix, there solution was to go on my roof and play around with it till I got a stronger signal. The following week I got an offer in the mail from my cable company that offered $25 Off a month for 18 months. I switch mostly for OnDemand (the fact that no one would come service my dish was the dealbreaker) as I wanted a Tivo, but do not have a house phone.

That being said, when I get married next year, get a house phone and a HD TV, I will probably go back to Direc TV

We have had Directv for 6 years. About 2 years ago we thought we would try and save money and go with cable. We had cable for 1 day and went back to Directv. I hated how the cable software for the guide worked. For us we look at the Directv bill as part of our entertainment budget. We don't go to movies anymore, we wait for them to come out either on pay-per-view or on one of the movie channels. You will love TIVO. We don't know what we did without it. We TIVO most of the shows we like and when we watch them we will fast forward through the commercials. Got to love that!

No yet - but we're settling into a new place Feb 1st and have been SERIOUSLY considering the plunge. I cant see paying what we're paying anymore for BASIC cable!!! Its absurd!!!

Please, in a week or so - update us as to what you think. I genuinely curious.

I agree! I switched from Direct TV because the deal Dish gave saved me $11.00 a month plus they gave me the DVR. I LOVE that thing! But...then they took away Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Channel. I was not happy They already did not include the Hallmark Channel I loved with Direct TV. Why should I have to pay for the highest package just to get the Hallmark Channel? I am on a year contract so am hoping nothing else goes wrong or I will switch back.
