I Told You Driving Was Bad For Your Health! *2/2* NEW TRIP REPORT LINK P102

Wow, your February trip sounds really awesome!
I've always wanted to tick the other value resorts off my list... but I just like Pop Century too much to stray. Some day I'll have to because ASSports does look really cute.
That carriage house looks absolutely adorable! I can understand Denny's trepidation, but I'd have to side with you. For the price, reviews, and adorable rooms!
Kayaking sounds lovely! So do all of the other activities available (except maybe the thing where you watch the sponge divers... :rotfl: ) and I would LOVE to see that big cat rescue!
All in all, sounds like a wonderful trip!

Back to your TR;
Daytona sounds like it was fantastic. That beach is so incredible, and the biking sounds fun too. A great way to see so much.

Your February break sounds great! That carriage house looks adorable! You know Pop is our favorite value but Sports comes in second so I think you will enjoy your short stay there :)

I love all the beach pictures. It just looks so lovely and relaxing!

Your upcoming trip sounds great! I love that carriage house! I would live there. :)

Love your beach pics at Daytona. Sounds like a great day at the beach!

Jill in CO

I am all caught up again! :woohoo:

Love the Epcot update and your plans for your February trip sound great. :thumbsup2

Yikes - that sounds terrible! I'm so glad it faded. I am sort of weird about skin rashes. I have this irrational fear of allergic reactions and one time when I got back from Disney I actually did get this boil on my upper thigh that I just could not get rid of. I think it was from shaving and then hitting the pool and getting bacteria under my skin.

I know you have really sensitive skin, and so do I, so I suspect our issues were related to that. Still - I would NOT like having red legs.

I suspect it was just a sensitivity issue as well. It was super wierd though as basically we came back and went to bed, had I not happened to glance down at my feet I'd never have even noticed it!

That's the engineer in him. I guess for someone with that level of knowledge it might be disappointing because it really IS fictitious. I know a lot of people don't like the design changes, but if I had to watch that old video in the pre show one more time I was going to :faint: That was so tedious.

I tried to remind him that it is a ride set in FUTURE world but he wasn't buying it :rotfl:

I'm too lazy to look for a picture, but I have that series of coffee mugs that are blue, green, and brown. They say "Mickey's Really Swell Coffee". My yellow one broke - awhile ago - and I could not find a replacement. All I could ever find was blue and brown. But FINALLY I found it! :cool1: YAY!

I know the mug! I have the green one but it's an older version so slightly different. I have a feeling I will end up with a F&G one if I like it. I would also like a MK and a DHS mug if I ever find ones that I like but it hasn't happened yet. There were only 2 I was even a little tempted by and I felt like with both I'd be buying them for the sake of having one from the trip which was silly.

I felt weird about booking it because it often gets bad reviews. But maybe I saw a review on Scott's TR. I was intrigued and decided to give it a try because I hadn't eaten there since 2005. I loved it. You would have loved that entree. So good!

I've read horrible ones, great ones and meh ones. I'm glad yours was a good one!

Then I hit on a carriage house in Tarpon Springs, Florida (which is northwest of Tampa Bay). Denny wasn't crazy about this property because it is located on the owner's property. Me, on the other hand, well I like trying unusual lodging, so I was all for it. Plus - $145 a night and she allowed a 3 night stay. Finally I convinced Denny, even though he still claims the awesome reviews on TA are fictitious.

it looks adorable and I am completely drooling over the idea of a beach day. I need some sun!

Because of the late MCO arrival Denny didn't want to use DVC points, so I booked an AP rate here

(Note - I borrowed these pictures from the internet)

Yup - That is All Star Sports. I haven't stayed in a value resort in a long time, but I have always said I need to stay in every Disney resort. So I get to add another to my list. I figure its worth it to get the magic band and to avoid the endless obsessing I do over where to stay off site.

The only thing I don't like about this stay is that I have to leave my room and get coffee in the morning. (I always pack my own) I think I'll just head down the street to Mickie D's for coffee instead of the Nesca-crap.

You can rent a Kuerig but for one night, not worth it I'm sure. But hey, it's all Joffrey-crap so not quite as bad. Getting in as late as you are, this makes total sense!

Since we missed HS during our last visit I already have FP reservations there for the morning and a lunch reservation at Sci-Fi.

I still can't believe you missed it! We spent by far the most time there, go figure! Age of my group I am sure but it was fine with me! And even with that, so much I didn't see or do.

We are staying at SSR for one. night It's our original home resort and I haven't stayed there in forever. I could have gotten BLT for one night, but I just don't think Denny will love it there. There were actually several resorts available for the one night, but I decided to go with nostalgia. Nevertheless, I am wait listed at BCV because Denny has never stayed there either and I wouldn't mind a visit to SAB. You never know - I might get lucky.

For one night I bet you have a decent chance, What is the 30 day mark?

T decided that since they had 4 bikes, we should all go for a ride. I have no clue where we went or how far we went. I think perhaps we road along the inter coastal because we did pass some lovely houses. I know we were out for several hours and I remember that K pays no attention to traffic patterns or signals. Yeah - it was one of THOSE kind of rides.

Sounds like drunk biking! :rotfl2: or hungover. LOL!

and beach bikes

Love these!!!!!!!!!

Your February plans sound wonderful! So many fun things to do. The big cat rescue would be very high on my list.

Have you seen/heard of these?

http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Insulat...d=1389482702&sr=1-1&keywords=french+press+cup

It's a French press and a cup all in one, you can have your favorite coffee anywhere you go. I've bought my mom and stepmom one and they say they work fabulously.

And why in the world didn't you jump on that great deal at Costco!? I don't know how you resisted :)

The bike ride might have frustrated me a little.

Does Denny not like the water?

Thanks for coming over to my TR.

I finally caught up. We are trying Mama Melrose in Feb. What are your dates. We are going Feb. 14-21.

We go over to Celebration every year. I was having some major dental work last year and a Diser that lives near Celebration gave me her dentist name in Celebration just in case I may need them. Completely forgot that I had to call the Dentist. My dh shows me his cap from his root canal came off, while we are sitting in the plane ready to leave. I called them before our flight left Milwaukee and he got in that afternoon. Talk about weird.

We are going up to Daytona on Sunday morning Feb 15th, to watch the finish of he 24 hour Lamaze Race--free tickets from Catipillar. going to see Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth.. Just wish it was Dale JR.

Your plans for Tampa sound great! Packed with lots of fun things The cat sanctuary would be very cool to see, so i'm looking forward to reading/seeing about that!

Good on you for still making your morning run after a night of :drinking1

Your Tampa trip sounds great! I have been over that way but it's been years and years ago.

Your Daytona beach pictures are postcard perfect. Too bad you don't know the parents of those kids because they would LOVE those pictures!

I am with the others....your February trip sounds like a lot of fun. I've never been to Tampa so I can't offer any suggestions but it sounds like you've got some great ideas on your itinerary.

Your Daytona pictures are great! I am not usually one who can just laze around while on vacation but I betcha I could when there's a beach like that nearby.

I remember camping at Ft. Desoto back in my college days, it was beautiful! I've never spent a lot of time in Tampa, are you thinking of going to Busch Gardens? I haven't been there in years either, but it used to be a lot of fun!

Wow, your February trip sounds really awesome!

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about this trip because its something different. I'm excited to see the Gulf Coast!

I've always wanted to tick the other value resorts off my list... but I just like Pop Century too much to stray. Some day I'll have to because ASSports does look really cute.

ASSports was the only value with an AP rate so I figured that was as good an excuse as any. I've stayed at Music and I really do think that the other All Starts are cute so it will be fun to stay at one.

That carriage house looks absolutely adorable! I can understand Denny's trepidation, but I'd have to side with you. For the price, reviews, and adorable rooms!

I guess I understand Denny's point of view too. It's like staying at a B&B only I think there is more privacy with this arrangement. I really just got a good feeling about this place so I home it works out.

Kayaking sounds lovely! So do all of the other activities available (except maybe the thing where you watch the sponge divers... :rotfl: )

:rotfl2: Yeah - no Sponge diving for us! :rotfl2: I really want to go kayaking. That's probably number 1 on my list.

and I would LOVE to see that big cat rescue!

The more videos I watch from the Big Cat Rescue the more I want to go there. It just looks SO super cool. They sound like an amazing organization.

All in all, sounds like a wonderful trip!

:thumbsup2

Back to your TR;
Daytona sounds like it was fantastic. That beach is so incredible, and the biking sounds fun too. A great way to see so much.

I always enjoy our time at Daytona. It spoils me so much I never even want to go to the Delaware beaches after I visit Daytona. I can't wait to see how the Gulf Coast compares.

Your February break sounds great! That carriage house looks adorable!

I am very excited for our February break! I have never traveled to Florida in Feb so this will be a first. I'm excited to see the carriage house. I hope we love it!

You know Pop is our favorite value but Sports comes in second so I think you will enjoy your short stay there :)

I didn't know you guys liked ASSports that much. I know you have stayed there. Glad to hear it has your seal of approval. I am looking forward to it, even though it is only for one night. If its a nice day I might have to go back before we leave to hit the pool there.

I love all the beach pictures. It just looks so lovely and relaxing!

It really was. Daytona beach Shores is a lovely stretch of beach. I love going there.

Your upcoming trip sounds great! I love that carriage house! I would live there. :)

Thanks. I am really looking forward to our winter getaway. I hope we love the carriage house. It does look pretty cute.

Love your beach pics at Daytona. Sounds like a great day at the beach!

Jill in CO

We did have a great day at the beach. Heck, I have never had a bad day at Daytona beach. I love it there.

I am all caught up again! :woohoo:

Yay! :cool1: And welcome back! I hope you had a great visit to DLP!

ILove the Epcot update and your plans for your February trip sound great. :thumbsup2

Thanks and thanks. I am really looking forward to checking out the Tampa Bay area. It looks pretty cool.

I suspect it was just a sensitivity issue as well. It was super wierd though as basically we came back and went to bed, had I not happened to glance down at my feet I'd never have even noticed it!

That IS really odd. And a little freaky - looking down at your legs and seeing them bright red. Like I said before, I would NOT like that…at all!

I tried to remind him that it is a ride set in FUTURE world but he wasn't buying it :rotfl:

:rotfl2: Too much of a realist I suppose!

I know what you mean. I try to pass right over the mugs that I am just "eh" about. But I do love those coffee mugs. And, yes, there is a new and an old version. I have two blue ones and one is the old while the other is the new version.

I've read horrible ones, great ones and meh ones. I'm glad yours was a good one!

I'm glad mine was a good one, too! Maybe part of the reason I liked it so much is because my expectations were low. I'm not sure. I just know I loved it!

it looks adorable and I am completely drooling over the idea of a beach day. I need some sun!

Me too! I really enjoyed the beach at St. Augustine, so I know I will love this area. There are just SO many beaches and state parks. It's pretty incredible.

You can rent a Kuerig but for one night, not worth it I'm sure. But hey, it's all Joffrey-crap so not quite as bad. Getting in as late as you are, this makes total sense!

Yup - probably not worth it for one night. I could get the Starbucks via. There's an idea! :thumbsup2 But seriously, I'm pretty fine with McDonalds for a quick caffeine fix.

I still can't believe you missed it! We spent by far the most time there, go figure! Age of my group I am sure but it was fine with me! And even with that, so much I didn't see or do.

It's very odd that we omitted the park all together. My October trip was weird. I had a great time, but I was dealing with some stomach issues and that slowed me down a bit. Then I got sick on the last morning I was supposed to hit HS. As long as that trip was there were parts of it that just weren't satisfying. I can't quite put my finger on what the problem was.

For one night I bet you have a decent chance, What is the 30 day mark?

I should be at 30 days in about 15 or 16 days. I went ahead and wait listed until the 7 day mark. I figured why the heck not? BCV is really the only other place I wanted to stay on this trip. Well, that and OKW, but since we are staying there in May I decided it was time to revisit good old SSR.

Sounds like drunk biking! :rotfl2: or hungover. LOL!

Well, I was pretty much past the hangover part by the time we hit the bikes. Thank goodness running in the morning will do that to you! :thumbsup2

Love these!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!

Your February plans sound wonderful! So many fun things to do. The big cat rescue would be very high on my list.

There is really so much to do in the Tampa area. I have been to Orlando and WDW like 20 times, so I think its time to explore around a bit.

Have you seen/heard of these?

http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Insulat...d=1389482702&sr=1-1&keywords=french+press+cup

It's a French press and a cup all in one, you can have your favorite coffee anywhere you go. I've bought my mom and stepmom one and they say they work fabulously.

That is really cool! I like that. What a great idea for traveling. I may just need to order one of those the next time I do some Amazon shopping. Thanks for the suggestion!!!!!!

And why in the world didn't you jump on that great deal at Costco!? I don't know how you resisted :)

I think I was afraid that it was going to taste like crap. I got scared by the super low price. Heck, we could have had that with breakfast before the bike ride. :rotfl:

The bike ride might have frustrated me a little.

You mean the lack of adherence to traffic protocol? :rotfl: It kind of threw me off a bit because Denny and I used to bike ride a lot. Like racing bikes, the whole nine yards. We were always VERY conscious of following the rules of the road, so it was a little unnerving.

Does Denny not like the water?

He can't swim. He never learned how as a child. Kind of hard to believe but he grew up dirt poor with 4 other siblings and some kid dunked him once and it scared the crap out of him. He never recovered. He literally sinks right to the bottom of water. It's nuts.

Kinda makes me want a beach house? There's no kinda about it. Michael can retire in 749 days from the FD and we are OUT after that if all goes as planned. :teeth: What beautiful beach photos. Just what I needed on this freezing cold and ugly Utah winter day. :thanks: Sounds like a great tim was had.

You ran with a hangover? Good girl. :worship: <----- That's me worshipping you. :rotfl: No seriously. I was so hungover this Friday morning I could barely find it in me to shop. Three hours in the jacuzzi with old friends and two cases of beer will do that to you. Could have been the 4  vodka, soda, with a splash of cranberries as well. Good times.

I think you'll like a night at the Value but not much more. ;) We stayed one night at Art of Animation before our last WDW trip and while I love the big colors and icons, I did miss the little perks DVC has got us all so accustomed too. But it was fun for a night. AoA is a super cute resort though.

Thanks for coming over to my TR.

I can't believe I didn't see it sooner, but the weird thing is its not popping up on my user cp. I might have to sub again.

I finally caught up. We are trying Mama Melrose in Feb. What are your dates. We are going Feb. 14-21.

Well, I am missing you by a week. We are going to arrive late on the 27th. It still feels sort of surreal that we snuck this trip in there. It was supposed to be just the west coast, but somehow the call of WDW is just too strong.

Wow - that is really lucky. Don't you love knowing people from all over the country? I think its great! And you just proved that it can really come in handy!

We are going up to Daytona on Sunday morning Feb 15th, to watch the finish of he 24 hour Lamaze Race--free tickets from Catipillar. going to see Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth.. Just wish it was Dale JR.

Nice! Our Daytona friends go to the races fairly frequently. Sounds like its a really good time. I am sure you are going to have a great time!

Your plans for Tampa sound great! Packed with lots of fun things The cat sanctuary would be very cool to see, so i'm looking forward to reading/seeing about that!

I am really looking forward to seeing the gulf coast and the more I think about it, the more I know I want to see that cat sanctuary. I have been watching their movies and it's an amazing place. They do amazing work.

Good on you for still making your morning run after a night of :drinking1

:rotfl2: I have found that exercise after a night of drinking is the best medicine! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Your Tampa trip sounds great! I have been over that way but it's been years and years ago.

I am SO looking forward to Tampa. We have decided to be snowbirds when we retire so I think, for research purposes, we have to check out the gulf coast! :rotfl:

Your Daytona beach pictures are postcard perfect. Too bad you don't know the parents of those kids because they would LOVE those pictures!

Thank you Jen! Coming from you that is a huge compliment, plus it makes me feel a little less uneasy about being a creeper. I just love taking candid pictures of kids. It just shows their amazing innocence.

I am with the others....your February trip sounds like a lot of fun. I've never been to Tampa so I can't offer any suggestions but it sounds like you've got some great ideas on your itinerary.

It's so funny that most of us die-hard DISers have not been to the gulf coast. It's that darn koolaid. It won't let us leave. :rotfl2: I am looking forward to this trip. It taps into my outdoors side!

Your Daytona pictures are great! I am not usually one who can just laze around while on vacation but I betcha I could when there's a beach like that nearby.

It is pretty hard to leave Disney to go lay on a beach, but once you are there that natural instinct just kicks in. :rotfl2: I'm happy that we have friends who live there. It's wonderful when we get a chance to see them. :goodvibes

The February trips sounds incredible! I love the way you were able to maneuver and manipulate the original plans. I think you are taking a page or two from Cynthia's playbook (and I say that with all due respect)

My fingers (and toes) are crossed that you get the BCV waitlist.

I can't wait to read about the wonderful places you have described in your post.

************************************************

Back to your trip- sounds like a really nice start.

Some shopping for bargain booze, a birthday dinner with dear friends, a run, a group bike ride, a mellow day at the beach. Works for me!

We have had this discussion, but the liquor selection at Costco would blow me away because of the crazy liquor laws we have here in Mass restricting where you can purchase adult beverages.

Well, you have some great plans on the horizon. I've been to Tampa a couple of times to visit Busch Gardens. Don't remember much about Tampa, the park was nice, but certainly not Disney.

I prefer the Atlantic coast to the Gulf, the beaches seem prettier to me. We've been to Daytona quite a few times. It always seemed very windy when we were there, but it was usually during March.

The cottage you booked is absolutely charming. I would rent that place in a heart beat.

I love the picture of the mother & daughter on the beach. Someone took a random picture of my son & his partner his partner getting married on the steps of the Capital in DC. The picture was posted on Facebook & within a few days my son saw the picture. That was such an amazing thing to happen. Maybe you could do the same thing to find the mother.

Catching up around these parts.

Sounds like Daytona was nice to you and you were able to really relax a bit.

Good for firming up your Tampa plans. Lots of great things to do and score on the carriage house.

Daytona looks nice - you got some awesome pictures at the beach - the kids - LOVE those!! I like to try to catch some of those type with my kids.

Your Tampa trip sounds fun too! It's nice to be able to add other things in and try new places. What a cute cottage!!
