I was in an accident on Friday. Icy roads. I was going westbound on a 2 lane highway. A truck ahead of me lost control and was spinning cookies, and another lady, coming eastbound, tried to avoid the truck, slid into our lane, and bashed into my drivers side. My little Beetle is smashed in from the headlight to the tailight on the driver's side. I was pushed into a ditch, but my airbags didn't deploy. No one was seriously injurred, but I am seeing a chiropractor for neck, jaw and shoulder pain. My shoulder was slightly dislocated when I saw him on Friday.

I drive (or drove) a 2000 New Beetle. The color was called Vapor (baby blue) and there were only 2000 of that color made. It's not quite the color of the new convertible. I really loved my car. I had a ton of Mickey antennae balls that I changed with the season, along with the flowers inside. It was really an extension of my personality. I know it's just a "thing", but I'm really sad to see it gone. Even if it's not totalled, everyone I talk to, including my husband, says to get rid of it because you never know what other problems may arise from this. So, we probably will. I should hear later today if it's a loss or not.

So, I'm mourning the loss of my bug and wishing I could spend all day in a hot bath because I hurt so much. But, I am at work! Just wanted to share my sad news.

Sorry about your car and your aches and pains. Feel better soon.

:grouphug: I hope you are feeling better soon. It's really scary to have something like that happen, and I understand your attachment to your Beetle.

I have a 2003 Beetle and I love it, but it just isn't the same as my first Beetle. My first one was a red 2000 Beetle and it was part of my personality, too. I used to change the flowers in the vase along with whatever season it was. A couple of years ago, my husband added some anitfreeze or coolant to the engine and, believe it or not, it destroyed the car. I was driving it down the highway and the engine started smoking. We had it towed to the Volkswagen dealership and they discovered that whatever it was that my husband had added to the engine was NOT compatible with the car. It totally gummed up the engine. The Volkswagen place said there was nothing they could do. I was so sad because I loved that car.

Anyway, I ended up with a 2003 silver Beetle. I've grown to love it also, but that first one was special. :)

I am glad there is someone else who understands my sadness. All I get is that I should be happy that I was not seriously injurred and it's just a "thing". Yes, it was just a car, but I loved that car.

I don't think I'll replace it with another Beetle. It just wouldn't be the same. We're looking at a 2003 or 4 BMW. More room, better on long road trips (my oldest daughter lives about 9 hours from me and is pregnant) and easier to get in and out of (I am getting older, lol?)

I'm so glad that you are ok!!! How very scary...

I understand your loss though. I felt that way when I sold off my first car! I had driven it since I got my license and was just so sad to drive away from it in the end. :(

Glad that you are ok though!

Thanks, Brandy, good to see you. I miss all my Dis friends since I'm not here very often. How's life? I didn't know you were adopting, how exciting?

((Big Hugs)) Kelli,

Nice to see you back on board! :thumbsup2
So sorry to hear about your accident, but thankfully you weren't seriously injured :flower3:. I hope the chiropractor takes care of all your ailments and has you back to feeling good real soon. :goodvibes

Too bad about your beetle :worried: and wish you the best getting something else. Know how you feel about your car  . When the last of our 4 graduated from college, we decided to celebrate and traded our big wagon in for a new V8 red TBird :lovestruc . Oh how I loved that car and sported it for some 10 yrs!! I kept it like new and only had 60,000 miles on it when couple years ago decided to sell it for a more comfortable 4 door OP (old people :-) Buick LeSabre, that I absolutely love and can even fit several grands in!! :teeth:

XO's to Ireland!

Hey TC

My husband is in the auto repair business and I asked him about your Beattle. It is a Volkswagon made in Germany and the price of all parts are going to be double, compared to a Chevrolete. It's not that you will be ripped off, it is because the parts have to be imported from Germany. My son drives a used Audi and he swung around a block and hit a curb. He bended the stearing stem underneath his car and that part alone is $1,000.

Our youngest dd who turns 16 tomorrow wants a Beattle car to drive. My husband doesn't mind, because volkswagon still makes their cars out of steal and not plastic and aluminum like American made cars.

The insurance company will probably total your vehicle. He said if you got hit, it just isn't the panels that need replacing, you probably need a new alignment to make sure nothing is bent underneath also.

You should be able to find another one, start searching on the internet. You will be surprised what you can find yet. My husband said they stopped making all Beattles, but you can still find them on car lots for $10,000-$12,000.

P.S. Glad you are OK!

4Nana, it's good to be back on, but life is busy.

OhMari: It's a New Beetle, and not all steel, the fenders are definately plastic. My insurance agent told me the same thing about Volkswagens being very expensive to fix, so to expect a total loss. And the front wheel was bent in a lot. I'm sure there's a ton of damage underneath from the impact. It's very sad. I probably won't replace it with another Beetle. Been there, done that, not going back. Can't replace the sentimental part with another one like it. Thanks for the advice!

I should have read all the posts. I didn't see that you didn't want to replace your VW.

Is your sil in Iraq or am I remembering someone else?

Thanks! We made the decision to adopt back in October...but we are still working out some financial kinks...we hope to start the process soon!! We are very excited about it!!!

Sorry to hear about your Beetle. I rolled my '66 VW 4 times and totaled it years ago. That's how I broke my neck.

Glad you're OK.
