I think GCH should make daybeds a bookable category

I am starting to put together my trip report of our 17-day mega Cali excursion and just posted a review on the disboards which reminded me of our only issue with the gorgeous GCH ... why the heck can't we just book a room with a daybed for a few bucks extra? I guess the same goes for bunk beds ... which are a bookable at the two similar hotels at WDW, AKL and WL so there is Disney precedent on this subject. Of course, those hotels only allow 5 if one is under age 3.

When I checked in, the CM told me that daybeds were "currently" blocked (at this time of year was my assumption) unless you had three adults in your party. As my youngest has really outgrown a pack and play, our options were to squish into two queens or let them deliver a sleeping bag. Sorry, but it's downright offensive to me that they expect one of my kids to sleep on the nasty floor of a hotel (ours was sticky in several spots until I scrubbed at it with a wet cloth), especially at these prices. So, though we LOVED LOVED LOVED GCH in almost every other way, we likely won't stay there again unless they let us confirm a daybed. I hope when my oldest DS turns 10 and becomes a Disney adult, we'd be eligible to get one but I am betting that it won't work that way! We did the squish, BTW, but I don't think it will be possible next time we return. It was not comfortable.

I'm prolly the only one who feels this way, LOL, because no one wants to pay more for something that is currently free but I'd rather know what I was getting in terms of sleeping arrangements and pay for it.

We also requested a room with a daybed during our stay at the GCH, and we had 3 adults in our group plus a child. We did not get a room with a daybed, but we were assigned a room facing the parking lot near the new construction. I did hear early morning construction noise from big trucks on a couple of the days. I'd read earlier that the rooms with daybeds were the rooms facing the parking lot, so I was certainly optimistic when given our room assignment. Without the daybed, I'd definitely request a better room location.

Now, THAT is a real bummer! Sorry, goofswife. I think I am going to shoot an email to DLR.

sorry to hear that..... we requested the sleeping bags for my lil one one time and they provide a foam peice and really nice huge warm sleeping bag, a pillow, and sheets etc.. so if you did it rigt your child would not be on the " carpet at least.. the bunk beds are wonderful by the way they have a pull out trundle so it really sleeps 3.

Yes, that might be an option next time but I am worried that my oldest will outgrow the bunks before we get back. He's 5 feet tall already, heading to the 6 ft 5 in range according to height estimators. Still, it is likely to be my back up request if we return (and I want to because it was otherwise awesome)

It's nice to know they send foam to make it more comfy - not the way the CM made it sound, LOL.

This is why I won't stay at GCH. I'm not paying that much for a room and making my child sleep on the floor. I have issues with having 3 children and never having one of them sleep on the floor at a hotel/motel. It happened for the first time just a few weeks ago. My 15 year old son had to sleep on the floor at a older motel. We hadn't made the reservations and they were fully booked, or I would have a) asked about rollaways when we made the reservation or b) booked a 2nd connecting room. Of the 3 Disneyland hotels, GCH is most attractive to me, but no way would I book it without a guaranteed bed for my teen.

We're thinking of GCH for next year, probably 3 adults and an just 8 year old. So I'm assuming that at the very least we would get a 2 Queen Room, which DD and Grandmother can share a bed easily, or if we get lucky 2 Queens and a Daybed? I'm a little confused as I didn't know or haven't heard about the daybeds previously.

Yep, the majority of rooms are 2 queens, but there are other room types you can request. According to allears.net, here are the options:

Standard rooms are 353 square feet, with either a king-size bed and sleeper sofa, two queen-size beds, two queen-size beds and a day bed, or one queen-size bed and and a set of two bunk beds available. The bunk beds also include a trundle bed.
